On my uphill trip to Tirumala (a pilgrimage), i saw this lady lighting tiny camphor tablets on every step of the 10,000 steps enroute. Now that's Devotion!
Countless people pinned dollars to Saint Anthony's statue as it passed in procession. The look in this woman's eyes shows the hope behind the gesture
Saint Anthony's Feast

In the summer of 2006 Portland was gripped with a (then) record-breaking heat wave. The first day I sweated it out in my office on the main floor. I figured the cats would stay in the coolest parts of the house, but they would often want to be near me and hang out in my office instead.
This picture of Scout is from that day, she was up on my bookcase and looking pretty pathetic. This wasn't even her at her worst, I decided not to take the picture when her mouth was hanging open as she looked like she had passed on.
For the next few days, I took pity on the little ones and moved my laptop and LCD into my wife's office in the basement, where it stays much cooler. The cats couldn't quite understand why I didn't just control the weather like the old days, and my protests that I was never omnipotent and that the old house just had air conditioning fell on deaf ears.
Still, I admired their devotion to me that they'd suffer just to be near me.

and just took a picture of her.
Senior John Hirschauer has two distinct tattoos on his left arm. The top tattoo stands as a memorial for his uncle who passed away in a car accident, and the design is inspired by his tombstone which reads, “beloved son, brother, uncle,” and is accompanied by the Celtic cross. The bottom tattoo reads, “St. Joseph Arimathea,” which is the name of the saint who buried Jesus. Hirschauer had a deep devotion to this saint in high school, and now runs a ministry club on campus that goes by this name. His club is dedicated to performing prayer services for families who have loved ones that passed away and are too poor to afford a funeral.
There are different modes of devotion;
that which foolishly weeps for me when I am not physically present; that which surrenders with wild abandon; and that which is steady and strong, ever attached to my Will.
I accept all these forms of devotion.
The choice between one or the other is not yours, for it is I who rule your feelings, modifying them.

This photo was taken during the Thaipusam festival, which celebrates the birthday of the Hindu deity Subramaniam, It is observed as a day of prayers, thanksgiving for wishes granted, fulfillment of vows and of good health. As part of the celebration, some devotees carry milk-pot offerings, whereas others attach large metal frames (kavadis) to their bodies using hooks and spikes. There's quite a bit of piercing involved, especially of the cheeks, tongues, faces and backs. It is an absolutely fascinating procession, lasting 4.5km, most of which devotees cover barefoot and in silence.

I've had so much coffee today, it's ridicules. The sad part is, I could honestly fall asleep right now haha. I hardly have time in the morning before work to do my daily devotion so I do it after work. Today's was real cute, it talked about how more people pray while in the car and someone else is driving. It continued to talk about two little old ladies who both could barely see over the dashboard. They ran three red lights and were never hit, the passenger said "Mildred you just ran three red lights!" and Mildred replied "Am I driving?" So we need to remember whose "driving" our lives! Hopefully not Mildred! =]

At 7:30 AM I gave Alissa a painting I made. She thought it was great. I told her to flip it over. She read it and said, "yeah" assuming I was being cute. When she turned around to thank me for the painting I was holding the ring. See the front.

The word gouache comes from the Italian for aguazzo, meaning mud. [1] Gouache is made when a pigment and chalk are combined with water and applied to the paper by the artist in an act of creation.
Like gouache our relationship is a synergy of earth and water into a creative energy. [2] The act is often messy and creates surprising and unintended results.
Want to get married?
1. Upon further investigation it seems there are no reliable references. The word gouache is ~400 years old so aguazzo may be antiquated.
