Photograph of a desolate soul for @dailyshoot #ds353 - Frames outline the focus of a subject. Make a creative photo with natural framing: windows, doors, trees, borders, etc.
Got another co-worker to help me out today. Thanks to Tim for sitting for a few shots after work today.
It's a desert - and that's official !!!!!
Dungeness is officially a desert and the only one in the UK. Although on the coast and surrounded by large man-made lakes the climate is very dry and water scarce.

probably cut last fall. you can still see the tiretracks in the mud.
evidence of old-growth logging from 80 years ago, among the newer slash done last year. a desolate cut on a once-verdant slope. It will grow back...
Isn't it amazing this is on the same US Hwy. 70 that is 8ish lanes through NW Raleigh?
It's beautiful out here...but absolutely nothing out here as well.

I always love how the weather can change our interpretations of scenary. Edgworth today has been plunged in a thick shroud of fog/mist (I forget the distinction), and it makes this place where I have spent the vast majority of my life up to now seem mysterious and wild and desolate. It has quite a calming influence that makes me want to curl up on the sofa with my book and forget about the world.
This photo is from the Mount Margaret trail above Spirit Lake, about 10 km (6 miles) from Mount Saint Helens volcano. This is one of the few trees that remained standing in the blast zone. You can see a lot of green regrowth. This photo is 23 years after the primary eruption.
The Mount Margaret hike is an excellent walk to observe the desolation and regrowth due to Mount Saint Helen's eruption. At the end of the hike, you get a great view into the volcano, where you can see the lava dome regenerating.

An aerial view of our site on Okeover in relation to Desolation Sound Marine Park and the four inlets: Malaspina, Theodosia, Lancelot and Okeover. All four inlets are part of the marine park. Malaspina Inlet leads into Desolation Sound - and to areas beyond such as Cortes, Toba and the Copeland Islands Marine Park.
