Today I am posting 2 photos of a boreal toad I found last year in Northern Washington. The first photo was shot at F7.1 to give more depth and to show more details in the forest and flowers in the background. The second photo was shot at F4 to have a softer more blurred out bokeh background where you can still see the forest but the details are obscured so as to put more focus on the toad. I would be glad to hear which of these photos you think best epitomizes the theme: "Into the Forest".

Thanks in advance for any comments and faves.

Winter walk in the local park, and the different densities of the trees through the snow caught my eye.

Last one in the series, again shot with a modified Helios 44-2 58mm f/2 Lens with M42 to Canon EF adapter + 12 mm Kenko extension tube.

Out of the shots of the forsylia flower I posted previously, this one is my favour. Which one is yours? Here is the little secret behind.

I have this Helios 44-2 vintage lens for over four years now. I bought it for its famous swirly bokeh; but I feel it hard to find the sweet spot. Apparently you need a pretty good distance in the background so the little light spots and details can register into that swirl shape.

Recently I learnt online that the front and the rear elements of Helios 44-2 could be reversed. Unfortunately my version does not have enough threads to reverse the front, so I decided to give it a try to reverse the rear element.

Wow, surprisingly after only a few shots, the crazy bokeh is unmatched and it also has remarkable color retention.

Now I am convinced that the inexpensive Helios vintage lens is a very fun lens to have and you can do many mods with it. From now on I definitely will use mine more often.

♥ Thank you very much for your visits, faves, and kind comments ♥

"Rich Border here with a news flash, the Seattle Mariners have made the playoffs for the first time in twenty years!!"

"What's that, that was two months ago?"

Ahh well. My daughter ponied up what I'm certain was an insane amount of money to take her folks to what would be the last game of the year and we sat through an 18 inning, one run game, only to lose to the Houston A$$tros.

Somewhere around the four hour mark the Mariners played a song that I didn't recognize, but apparently it's the cue for 47,000 people to stand up and turn on their phone lights. It was pretty cool.

I've have been concentrating on finding employment since September, trying to find a good fit rather than just getting a job, turns out that I'm hard to please. Bear with me, once I get job and a reliable car I will be shooting again. Hope you all are well, blow this up large and it's even better if you cross your eyes a bit.... :)

Well what do you know! Another new image, all far too much excitement at once, certainly not used to this...

Myself and Mike Muddyboots decided to head up to the Lakes for the day, the weather hadn't looked great but at least there was some rain so there fore there would be clouds and not boring old plain blue skies like we have sadly had so much of of late, the idea was to look for breaks in the weather, scope a few places out, and I could also fly my drone at a couple of locations if the weather allowed.

After the unique expereince of sitting outside a pub in Boot eating steak pie, Chips, and Veg in the rain with no shelter we headed over to Hardknott Fort and Wasdale.

I'd been meaning to shoot this little boathouse for a while, and whilst the weather didn't look the best I just wanted to go and have a look for a return visit so we took the walk in, upon arrival the colours that were there were extremely vivid Spring Greens, absolutely superb, I've actually had to reduce the yellows a little from what was captured to stop them appearing illuminous!

The rain had stopped but the water was far from still, every now and again it would get close but then just ripple up again, I set up and flew the drone for a while while somebody 'rested' off their Steak Pie on the riverbank, I just waited it out, I think we were here about an hour to an hour and a half and eventually got a nice still shot with light falling onto the vibrant foliage to the rear, along with a cloud laden sky, the underwater plants here are really interesting as well so I wanted to bring them into the shot.

A great day out and an image I'm pleased with as something different.

Taken for "Macro Monday's" group theme: Deception

=================================================>

Taken with Raynox MSN-505 Supermacro lens attached to my Canon G9...

My Macro Monday image for the theme "Evolution".

We used to use pens (or pencils for that matter) all the time didn't we, for lists, making notes, keeping appointments in a diary, writing letters etc. Now though, if you're like me, that usage has evolved to almost exclusively doing things electronically on a computer or a mobile device.

So this image, of a ballpoint pen, sitting on my Macbook keyboard is to represent that evolution. One result for me is how bad my handwriting has become, on the rare occasion that I do have to write anything of any length, I marvel at how bad it looks.

Going for an extremely shallow depth of field in this image, so my 100mm macro lens at maximum aperture of f/2.8 with three extension tubes on as well.

Happy Macro Monday everyone!

I came across this quote that I found to be quite funny. I had a good laugh :)

"A photographer went to a socialite party in New York. As he entered the front door, the host said 'I love your

pictures - they're wonderful; you must have a fantastic camera.' He said nothing until dinner was finished, then:

'That was a wonderful dinner; you must have a terrific stove.'" - Sam Haskins

This is a photo stack of 20 images to create this much depth in a macro photo. Each shot with a slightly different focus point. The camera is locked down and then it is slid forward by tiny, controlled movements of macro focus slider. The copper wire sculpture is all of about 2 inches tall. The flower in the background is only about 3 to 4 inches away from the wire structure with is sitting in a bucket of water to help finish the scene.

Its hard to set this all up and everything is very small movements and if you accidentally kick a tripod leg of a light stand, everything gets changed in a big way. It can be very frustrating to work like this, but this is the result when it all comes together.

Shot using a Tokina AT-X 90mm f2.5 Macro lens and a 25mm Canon FD extension tube.

NEW!!!! CHAI. PILLOW COLLECTIONS

WALLFLOWER • BARAKA • DEPTH

You don’t have to be loud to be powerful.

The new CHAI. pillow collections—WALLFLOWER, BARAKA, and DEPTH—are soft-spoken stories of texture, feeling, and presence. Designed not just to adorn, but to listen. To the hush of your breath after a long day, to the way your body leans without permission, to the emotions that fill a room without needing to speak.

Each collection is a tactile meditation:

— WALLFLOWER, with its playful geometrics and organic motifs, celebrates the quiet strength of the unnoticed.

— BARAKA, meaning “blessing,” is grounded in earthy tones and tribal echoes, drawing energy from ancestral memory and intentional stillness.

— DEPTH invites you to sink in—to emotions, to introspection, to the circular rhythm of life lived authentically.

This weekend, CHAI. invites you to slow down and be wrapped in softness that sees you, hears you, and holds space for all that you are.

The lovely meandering river glistens in the last glimpses of sunlight, casting its long shadows around the hills, lighting the autumn leaves throughout the valley. Such a stunning place. www.peakpreview.co.uk twitter @peak_preview
