Water level in the Columbia river is pretty low right now. Only 2 to 3 feet of the tops of these pilings were showing earlier this year. 75 second exposure.

Kirkjufell, or 'Church Mountain', is a distinctly shaped peak found on the north shore of Iceland’s Snæfellsnes Peninsula, only a short distance away from the town of Grundarfjörður. It is often called ‘the most photographed mountain in Iceland’ due to its dramatic formation and perfect coastal location.

Finally back in the Dales this week and a venture to Scale Haw Force. One of the less well known Dales waterfalls but a suprising delight to visit. Always keen to get an unusual angle i scrambled to this perch which although only about 5 feet away avoided the worst of the spray. Still somewhat hidden from view by the last of the summers overgrowth it allowed for some great contrast. I expect this waterfall will transform nicely over the coming months so definately worth a return trip. As ever thanks for viewing. Have a great week.

Really incredible view! Check out the max zoom and look at some of the buildings hidden inside the trees.

This is what I define as a "Classic JW Panorama" in that it's exactly my style: High edges along the left and right sides, deep center, very high pixel density with clear (mostly) distortion free detail. Check out some of my other panoramas for more like this.

O'Shaughnessy's chameleon (Calumma oshaughnessyi) is a species of chameleon endemic to Madagascar. It was named after the British poet and herpetologist Arthur O'Shaughnessy.

O'Shaughnessy's chameleon has a range of about 18,000 square kilometers throughout the southeastern portion of the central highlands of Madagascar. Its distribution extends from Tsinjoarivo, Ambatolampy in the north to Andohahela National Park in the south. The species is highly dependent on intact, humid forest as its habitat, living in lower densities on selectively logged territories.

Calumma crypticum, commonly known as the cryptic chameleon, is a species of chameleon found in Madagascar.

The species is endemic to Madagascar and has a broad latitudinal distribution between the Anosy Mountains in the south and the Tsaratanana Massif in the north.

It is a forest chameleon that occurs in mid-altitudes between 1,050 and 1,850 m elevation, where it appears to be more abundant in semi-open areas associated with trails, gaps and rivers.

The chameleon species is only found in humid forest and the loss or severe degradation of these habitats due to agricultural conversion and logging is a threat, especially outside of protected areas.

Took the camera and co to the beach tonight. Still trying to learn the ropes of LE with neutral density filters. Have had them for a long time but could never quite get a handle on them.

Scientific name: Gallinago gallinago.

Snipe are medium sized, skulking wading birds with short legs and long straight bills. Both sexes are mottled brown above, with paler buff stripes on the back, dark streaks on the chest and pale under parts. They are widespread as a breeding species in the UK, with particularly high densities on northern uplands but lower numbers in southern lowlands (especially south west England). In winter, birds from northern Europe join resident birds.

The UK population of snipe has undergone moderate declines overall in the past twenty-five years, with particularly steep declines in lowland wet grassland, making it an Amber List species. Info: RSPB.

I visited Blyth in Northumberland at the weekend to visit my sister who is in a nursing home and when I came out I noticed this bush of yellow flowers standing to attention in the flower beds surrounding the car park. I don't have a clue what it is? (Is it just me or is the map function not working these days? All it can come up with is "a mysterious place with no name" which is kind of amusing but a tad irritating.)

Completed in 1810 by John Rennie, the spectacular Dundas Aqueduct carries the Kennet & Avon Canal over the River Avon and is a Scheduled Monument. It was the first canal structure to be designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument in 1951.

Named after Charles Dundas, the first chairman of the Kennet and Avon Canal Company, the aqueduct forms the junction between the Kennet and Avon Canal and the largely derelict Somerset Coal Canal. The short stretch of the Somerset Coal Canal still in water forms Brassknocker Basin, used for boat moorings, cycle hire and a cafe. A short walk further there is the Dundas Wharf where the small tollhouse, warehouse and crane still stand.

The dinner hour approaches.
