This was shot on the last day of a workshop I attended through Main Media Workshops + College. Our group were out at Marshall Point Lighthouse in Point Clyde, Maine. It was late afternoon, approaching evening, and I had been doing long-exposure shots using some neutral-density filters, and was getting ready to pack things up when I noticed our instructor had started heading out along the walkway toward the lighthouse. I quickly set my tripod at the end of the walkway, slipped a filter over the lens, and shot a 10-second exposure. The water is softened, and the instructor appears as though a ghost haunting the lighthouse.
There isn't a lot of interesting architecture here and the light isn't particularly good, but the sheer density of the boxy skyscrapers is intense.

This Grimsby, Ontario park along the shore of Lake Ontario in Grimsby Beach, like all parks in town, is subject to closures to prevent Covid-19-related exposure from contact with ‘park amenities’. The beach proper is closed but given Lake Ontario’s temperature, nobody is likely to go for a dip anyway. But the old pier, a remnant from the area’s heyday as an Methodist meeting camp and, later, an amusement park linked by steamship to Toronto, remains. And it is hardly a high-touch feature of the park. Furthermore, nobody in their right mind would be out there with camera gear carrying a pink, vintage chair at dawn, awaiting sunrise. Well, except me. I have had this old chair for decades and I balk at any suggestion to refinish it. I love it as-is and I have used it as a prop in photos from time-to-time. I wanted flat water so I opted to use an extreme ND filter (10-stop) to get a long enough exposure. Taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D800 fitted with an AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm 1:4.0 lense set to 24mm and fitted with a 10-stop ND filter, ISO100, Daylight WB, Matrix metering, Manual Mode, f/7.1, 43 sec. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: level the image, remove pincushion distortion, brighten the image overall by setting exposure compensation to EV+0.36, use the Graduated Neutral Density/GND tool to darken the right side of the frame to better match its tonality to the left side, use the Shadows/Highlights tool to recover highlights and also the shadows, increase white balance to 5300K (‘Daylight’ WB for RAWTherapee vs camera ‘Daylight’ of 5040K), slightly boost Vibrance, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: use the curves tool to darken the mid tones of the curve and then use the shadows/highlights tool to bring up the shadows a bit more, sharpen, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 2048 px wide for posting online, sharpen very slightly, save.dd fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 2048 px wide for posting online, sharpen very slightly, save.

A 2.5 second exposure using a ten-stop Neutral Density D 3.0-1,000X filter that allows time exposures in daylight. The mist soon lifted to allow the rain to return.
