A walk with Melanie and Max through Spuckle Woods and Mary's Meadow, Stalisfield to take in the beautiful Kent countryside just for a while. A just opening Greater Butterfly Orchid. So today the Macro lens is off and the super-telephoto on as I am off to Svelbard next week to hopefully photograph Polar Bears on the pack ice among other wonderful things. Once back its off to the Cotswolds and then Norfolk for a week. Last trip out tomorrow for three weeks, see you the other side!

I probably should have titled it, "Deep. Blue. Background." The reason is because this is Crater Lake, Oregon. Not far from here it reaches a depth of 1,949 feet. It's in the top ten of deepest lakes in the world with it's ranking varying based on what a particular list bases it's measurements. (Southern Oregon Cascades trip DSC_7943.jpg)

Valagil Waterfall, 45 km south of Bolungarvik, Iceland, has cut a deep canyon into the volcanic hillside.

Candid Street Photography from Edinburgh, Scotland

On a visit to South Wales in August 1988, I found this Sentinel 0-6-0 shunter at Deep Navigation Colliery dealing with coal hoppers that would depart once laoded as the 6B70 18:55 SCN [Speedlink Coal Network] service to Radyr Junction. What a pity the shunter had been defaced by the white paint markings 'CMA 4000' whatever it was meant to signify?
