Macro Mondays (02.15.10) - Heart's Desire
This week's macro Monday is dedicated to my heart's desire...
dedicated to my friend, Teresa ...
... are an integral part of the cultural calendar of the southern French town of Arles. The photo exhibitions have been held annually since 1970 during the summer weeks from July to August in the historic buildings of the city of Arles or in buildings in the immediate vicinity and show works by internationally renowned artists and creators of art.
The Communist mayor, in predominantly right-wing nationalist southern France had, against much opposition, pushed through a new museum by Gehry and wants the Bilbao effect for the charming town on the Rhone.
Opposite the museum is now a photography school, ultra-modern. Young people from all over the world visit the exhibitions there in the summer and the whole city seems to become one exhibition space. Even old churches, here with their side chapels, are integrated ... and since a young photographer must be ready at all times, he always has his camera with him.
The photo was a matter of luck, because the church hardly left free way for a photo because of so many people.
Older people are of course also there, because someone must have the money to buy the photos in the galleries ;-) ...

Dedicated to all 40 cavalry regiments of the Second Polish Republic and horse artillery divisions, as well as the Battle of Komarów (1920).
The Battle of Komarów was the largest cavalry battle of the 20th century, the Polish forces numbered about 1.5 thousand soldiers, the Bolshevik forces - over 6 thousand. Despite such an advantage, the Polish cavalrymen defeated the enemy.

In all my life I have never seen anyone as devoted as this woman. Visiting the Spassky temple in Irkutsk, I followed her for a while. She cleaned up the altars and places of prayer with a small brush, as she was beautifully humming the most dreamy songs. Impressed by her mindfull dedication I was glad that one can hardly hear the shutter of my camera. She was so in trans that she didn't notice me.

we are bound togather more than anything , one flickr said "this forum is more powerful than UNO for bringing peace in the world " , and I am fully agreed to him.
Dedicated in 2004, this Boone County Kentucky park contains 43 acres and has a 1.3 mile paved path with a great view of the Ohio River. There are porta potty's and picnic shelters at both ends of the trail. Located on the downriver end of rural route 8, it's never crowded and litter free. It's a gem for a little solitude.
This temple in Sarahan is dedicated to Goddess Bhimakali ,the presiding deity of the former rulers of the erstwhile Bushahr state in Himachal Pradesh,India . It is a beautiful sample of the typical hill architecture of the area.Sarahan ,a very pretty little town some 170 kms from Shimla ,was once the capital of the Bushahr kingdom.Later the capital was shifted to Rampur.Sarahan (altitude around 10000 feet) is situated a little off the main Shimla-Kinnaur highway and is also known as the Gateway to Kinnaur. It is a very picturesque place surrounded by pretty little villages and apple orchards and commands magnificent views of the snow-capped Himalayas. The town contains some very beautiful specimens of hill architecture.
On our first visit ,exactly a year earlier, it had rained cats and dogs but luckily on this visit the weather was kind.Although Sarahan is not as popular as regular tourist destinations like Shimla or Manali I personally feel it is one of the prettiest places in Himachal.
dedicated to those who give all to what our nation asks of them.... my hope is that the world will see how we could all live together. i put my faith in my GOD. HE is a just GOD, and knows the hearts of men. i also pray the good hearts of people around the world will find a comfort and a safe haven, no matter where they live . we should be taking care of each other, loving each other, but to do it we have to have trust, and we must feel secure, with freedom to live our lives. ... we will defend our freedoms with our lives if that is what it takes. ... make no mistake about it. and we treasure ... our just and honorable armed forces to protect us. thankyou so much. your sacrifice is not in vain... i only speak for me. but thankfully i have that right to do just that...!

Fields dedicated to flower bulb production generate gorgeous agricultural landscapes in spring. There is however a sad part in this picture. Bulb production is one of the most contaminant activities in agriculture, with heavy chemical inputs, including systemic pesticides that end up in your garden, affecting the pollinators visiting the flowers. Estimates for the Netherlands reach an astonishing average of 100 kg of active pesticides per ha and 310 and 130 kg of nitrogen and phosphate per ha, respectively (Jansma et al 2002 Acta Hortic 570:191-204). The sad result is that those fields are abiotic, an artificial industrial spring with no bees and butterflies. And that muteness can reach your garden if you plant those bulbs. What to do? Choose organic bulbs (or simply do not buy them).
