Putna Monastery, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, is an Orthodox Christian monastic place, important cultural, religious and artistic center. In 2021, the authorities in Suceava County began marking the Via Mariae route to Putna Monastery.
The monastery is located 33 km northwest of Radauti, Suceava County. In the scriptory of Putna were copied manuscripts and precious miniatures were made. The place holds a rich monastery museum, with embroideries, manuscripts, religious objects, icons, etc.
The entrance to the monastery is made under the vaulted archer of a tower composed of ground floor and first floor, on whose eastern façade is the coat of arms of Moldova dated 1471. The tower was built in 1757 in the time of Prince Constantin Racoviță, this one also bearing the coat of arms on the western facade, in which the coats of arms of Moldavia and Wallachia appear together. Because the poet Mihai Eminescu together with Ioan Slavici and other participants in the “Putna Celebration” in August 1871 overnighted in those days in the hall upstairs, this construction is called “The Eminescu Tower”. Also on the east side is located the “Tower of the bell tower”, built in 1882.

Dedicated to the new Yosemite OS being released soon by Apple.
My friend Mike Oria and I made a trek to document the Yosemite fire last night. The full moon was illuminating the mountains under a clear sky, but within a half an hour the smoke lowered and changed direction. and this view was lost. It was good to see the fire had abated by a large degree.

I didn't know about Willigis Jäger until recently when I started practicing with a local meditation group; they've become friends while I went through a rather difficult time and the regular Sunday evening practice became something to cherish and look forward to. Too little I know about Willigis Jäger, but I feel he would agree with Rupert Spira who a few days ago recorded this small but profound message:
the prayer I mean is not an asking for something, it is rather a withdrawing into one's inner silence, where the influence of senses and thoughts, through practice, become weaker and weaker ...
here is some more, for those inclined:
Dedicated to every dreamer... specially, for those one who work hard every day in order to get them accomplished.
Dedicated to a friend who's going thru a rough patch. Sometimes all we can do is remind them that things can only get better.

Adashino Nenbutsu-ji (化野念仏寺 Adashino Nenbutsuji) is a Buddhist temple in Ukyo-ku, Kyoto, Japan. In 811 Kūkai is said to have founded a temple, then Honen altered it to the present Nenbutsuji. Situated high on a hill overlooking the city from the northwest, it sits in an area where since the Heian period people abandoned the bodies of the dead, exposing them to the wind and rain. Now, some eight thousand Buddhist statuettes, which had been scattered around Adashino then collected about 1903, memorialize the souls of the dead. During its well-known 'sento kuyo', a ceremony dedicated to the spirits of the dead, about ten thousand stone statues are lit up with candles. (Wikipedia)
Dedicated Photographer stands precariously perched upon the cliffs of Whyte Islet, approx 50-60 ft above water level. (Height is a guess)
Temperatures were almost freezing and the forecast was calling for snow.
Whyte Islet is a very small island on the shore of Howe Sound. People hike across the rocks to climb upon this hidden West Vancouver gem. Being aware of the changing tide is very important....the rocky path leading from the beach can quickly disappear when the tide comes in. Many people have been left stranded high and dry on this cute little island. The waterline indicates the water depth reached.

Whytecliff Park is located near West Vancouver's Horseshoe Bay Neighbourhood, the original name of which was White Cliff City, which opened in 1909. In 1914, Colonel Albert Whyte pressed for the spelling change from White Cliff City to Whytecliff. The Whytecliff area is now distinct from Horseshoe Bay. The park, originally Rockcliffe Park, was developed by W.W. Boultbee in 1926, and a private access road was cut from the Marine Drive highway at Batchelor Bay.
The fifty acre Boultbee estate was purchased by the Union Steamship Company in 1939 and the company operated a Bowen Island Ferry from Whytecliff during 1939-41 and 1946-1952
The park is currently home to more than 200 marine animal species and is the first Marine Protected Area in Canada. Sea lions can be seen sunbathing on the beach during summer.

dedicated to my sci-fi buddies,
who look to the sky in wonder, dreaming,
travelling through portals and imagination,
in search of a better world.
the search begins here, in our hearts.
“In 1984 Gurudeva planted 108 trees with his own hands. He dedicated this forest to pilgrims and all Kauaians, inviting them to sit among the sacred trees to rest, meditate, have a picnic or tell stories to their children. Today the trees are fifty feet tall and produce hundreds of thousands of fruits each year. The English name is Blue Marble tree, since the one-inch diameter fruits are a rare cobalt blue. Their unusual color was written about in a Scientific American article. It seems there are two, and only two, living species on the Earth that create color using refraction and not reflection: a deep-sea crustacean and Eleocarpus ganitrus, the Rudraksha tree. Underneath the blue skin is a thin layer of flesh which is edible, but not too tasty. In Ayurveda, Rudraksha seeds, ground with healing herbs, are given to patients of heart disease to strengthen the cardiac muscle. The wood is also unusual. Almost white in color, it is said to have been the wood of choice in World War I for making airplane propellers; and in India the trees practically became extinct when they were chosen as the timber for railroad ties.”

Ralston's Cairn, Glencoe, Scotland
As I’m shortly to set off for a 2 week trip to Glencoe & Isle of Skye I thought I’d post an image I took in Glencoe a little over a year ago.
I’d seen photos of the Ralston Cairn on Flickr and saw a YouTube vlog on it a few years ago so I knew roughly where it was but had not actually tried to find it before. It’s one of those ‘honeypot’ images that divides opinions and given the main subject of the image is man-made even I wondered about shooting it. However, as I’d never shot it before I thought it was worth tracking down and seeing if there might be a nice sunset too. Alas there was nothing going on in the sky so I just fiddled around with various focus-bracketed compositions and chose this. No points for originality but it will do for me and it’s crossed off my list of Glencoe shots…..unless I’m in the area and it looks like a decent sky will be likely. Who knows, might happen this month when I’m up there although I want to seek out a few new places as well as some ‘tried-and-tested’ ones. If I’m absent until later in March you know why!
The Ralston Cairn is dedicated to Ralston Claud Muir, a train driver on the West Highland Line and avid hiker, especially within the Glencoe Glen.
Sadly Ralston fell ill on Christmas day 1999 and died 16 days later on 10 January 2000 from multiple organ failure caused by Leukaemia. He was only 32 years old.
The Glencoe Glen was his favourite place to hike and his friends and/family thought it fitting to erect an everlasting monument to his memory. His ashes are also interred at this spot. His friends and family still visit the monument, often with a wee dram of whisky to toast to his memory.

Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral
1085 De la Cathedrale Street, Montreal
The Cathedral is the third largest church in Quebec and is Catholic denomination. It was built to replace the former St. Jacques Cathedral which had burned in 1852. Work began in 1875 it was completed in 1894 and consecrated as St. James Cathedral being the patron of the parish that it served.
However in 1955 at the request of Cardinal Paul-Emile Leger it was rededicated by Pope Benedict XV to Mary, Queen of the world. There have been a number of restoration works. In 2003 the enclosed porch and esplanade were restored. Another restoration in 2005 was the work done to Bishop Ignace Bourget’s statue on the outside of the building.
The Bishop’s Mortuary was completed in 1935, this was dedicated to Bishop Bourget where lays his tomb. The walls and floors are made from Italian marble.
The Chapel of the Assumption has a beautiful wood carved altar with gold leaf decoration. There is a wonderful painting of Our Lady painted in the 17th cent by a Spanish monk (unknown). The altar itself was discovered by Rololphe Messmer, an Austrian architect in France. He donated to the cathedral in 1994.
The Ciborium which covers the altar and is located under the dome was created in Rome in 1900 by Joseph-Arthur Vincent and is a reproduction of the famous one in St. Peter’s in Rome.
The Statues which atop the roof of the Cathedral represent the thirteen parishes of Montreal and again imitate those on St. Peter’s in Rome.
There are many treasures to see whilst there, there are many paintings, beautiful stained glass window and panels. The Great Organ was built by Casavant Freres and installed in 1893. The company also did the maintenance work in the 1950’s.
A truly wonderful Cathedral to visit.
