The Bismarck Memorial (German: Bismarck-Nationaldenkmal), located in the Tiergarten in Berlin, is a prominent memorial statue dedicated to Prince Otto von Bismarck, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Prussia and the first Chancellor of the German Empire. It was sculpted by Reinhold Begas.

The massive memorial in Berlin portrays Bismarck in his ceremonial garb as Chancellor standing above statues of:

- Atlas, showing Germany's world power status at the end of the 19th century;

- Siegfried, forging a sword to show Germany's strong industrial and military might;

- Germania pinning underfoot a panther, symbolizing the suppression of discord and rebellion;

- a sibyl reclining on a sphinx and reading the book of history.

The statue, along with the famous Berlin victory column, were once located in front of the Reichstag building before they were moved in 1938 by Adolf Hitler in his project to recast Berlin as Welthauptstadt Germania. The colossal statue weathered a marked amount of shrapnel damage during World War II, but has survived largely intact to the present day. In fact, the move probably saved the monument from total destruction, as the old garden in front of the Reichstag was completely obliterated in the war.

This is not a usual scene in Iran but unfortunately I could witness it once in the last summer when I was passing through a small city in Kurdestan province of Iran. The man (probably the woman's husband) was searching her purse for something ( money I guess) and he was not patient enough to wait for what he tried to get.It was really a sad scene and I decided to put it here and dedicate it to all underprivileged women in the world on Woman's day.Hoping for a better future.

Dedicated to St Peter. Its choir, the Domspatzen, literally "Cathedral Sparrows", trace their origins back to the year 975 when bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg founded a cathedral school that – among other things – instructed boys to sing in the liturgy. Georg Ratzinger wasDomkapellmeister from 1964-1994, and it was this choir that Benedict requested to sing for him in the Vatican at a concert there.

There used to be two of these. The other one was torn down for some reason. These used to mark the entrance to the University.

Brahmeswara Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Siva located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, erected at the end of the 9th century CE, is richly carved inside and out. This Hindu temple can be dated with fair accuracy by the use of inscriptions that were originally on the temple. They are now unfortunately lost, but records of them preserve the information of around 1058 CE. The temple is built in the 18th regnal year of the

Somavamsi king Udyotakesari by his mother Kolavati Devi, which corresponds to 1058 CE.

The temple is built with traditional architectural methods of wood carving, but applied on stone building. The buildings were built in a shape of full volume pyramid, and then the would be carved inside and outside.

The basic structure of the Orissan temple has two connecting buildings. The smaller is the Jagmohana, or assembly hall. Behind it is the Sikhara, the towering sanctuary. Later temples have two additional halls in front - one for dancing, and the other for banquets.

The Brahmeswara shows quite a bit of affinity with the much earlier Mukteswar Temple, including the carved interior of the Jagmohana, and in the sculptural iconography such as the lion head motif, which appeared for the first time in the Mukteswara, and is here evident in profusion. There are quite a number of innovations, however, including the introduction of a great number of musicians and dancers, some holding lutes, on the exterior walls. For the first time in temple architectural history iron beams find their first use.

On sandstone walls there are symbolic decorations and the notion of godlike figures that helps the believer in his meditation. The carvings over the door frame contain beautiful flower designs as well as flying figures. Like the Rajarani, there are images of the eight directional Guardian Deities. There are also quite a number of tantric-related images, and even Chamunda appears on the western facade, holding a trident and a human head, standing on a corpse. Shiva and other deities are also depicted in their horrific aspects.

One of the lost inscriptions stated that a Queen Kolavati presented 'many beautiful women' to the temple, and it has been suggested that this is an evidence of the 'Devadasi' tradition, which assumed such importance in later Orissan temple architecture and temple life.

All Hallows-by-the-Tower, also previously dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin[1] and sometimes known as All Hallows Barking, is an ancient Anglican church on Byward Street in the City of London, overlooking the Tower of London.

Founded in 675, it is one of the oldest churches in London, and contains inside a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon arch with recycled Roman tiles, the oldest surviving piece of church fabric in the city. (St. Pancras Parish Church in King's Cross has been a place of Christian worship since the sixth century.)

History

Reconstruction during 1955, after extensive damage in the Blitz.

All Hallows-by-the-Tower was first established in 675 by the Anglo-Saxon Abbey at Barking[2] and was for many years named after the abbey, as All Hallows Barking. The church was built on the site of a former Roman building, traces of which have been discovered in the crypt. It was expanded and rebuilt several times between the 11th and 15th centuries.[3] Its proximity to the Tower of London meant that it acquired royal connections, with Edward IV making one of its chapels a royal chantry and the beheaded victims of Tower executions being sent for temporary burial at All Hallows.

The church was badly damaged by an explosion in 1650[4] caused when some barrels of gunpowder being stored in the churchyard exploded; its west tower and some 50 nearby houses were destroyed, and there were many fatalities. The tower was rebuilt in 1658, the only example of work carried out on a church during the Commonwealth era of 1649-1660. It only narrowly survived the Great Fire of London in 1666 and owes its survival to Admiral William Penn, father of William Penn of Pennsylvania fame, who had his men from a nearby naval yard demolish the surrounding buildings to create firebreaks. During the Great Fire, Samuel Pepys climbed the church's spire to watch the progress of the blaze and what he described as "the saddest sight of desolation".

Restored in the late 19th century, All Hallows was gutted by German bombers during the Blitz in World War II and required extensive reconstruction, only being rededicated in 1957.

Many portions of the old church survived the War and have been sympathetically restored.[5] Its outer walls are 15th-century, with a 7th-century Saxon arch doorway surviving from the original church, which is the oldest piece of church material in London. Many brasses remain in the interior (where one of London's brass rubbing centres is now located). Three outstanding wooden statues of saints dating from the 15th and 16th centuries can also be found in the church, as can an exquisite Baptismal font cover which was carved in 1682 by Grinling Gibbons for ₤12, and which is regarded as one of the finest pieces of carving in London. In 1999 the AOC Archaeology Group excavated the cemetery and made many significant discoveries.[6]

The church has a museum called the Undercroft Museum, containing portions of a Roman pavement which together with many artefacts was discovered many feet below the church in 1926. The exhibits focus on the history of the church and the City of London, and include Saxon and religious artefacts. Also on display are the church's registers dating back to the 16th century, and notable entries include the baptism of William Penn, the marriage of John Quincy Adams, and the burial of Archbishop William Laud.[7] Laud remained buried in a vault in the chapel for over 20 years; it was moved during the Restoration to St. John's College, Oxford.

The altar in the crypt is of plain stone from the castle of Richard I at Athlit in The Holy Land.[8]

All Hallows-by-the-Tower has been the Guild church of Toc H since 1922. The church was designated a Grade I listed building on 4 January 1950.[9]

The Port Campbell National Park was dedicated in 1964 (with 700 hectares) in order to protect the limestone formations on and near the coastline adjacent to the Great Ocean Road. By 1981 the park had grown to 1,750 hectares; extending from the eastern side of Curdies Inlet at Peterborough to Point Ronald at Princetown. In 2002, the Port Campbell Professional Fishermen's Association unsuccessfully attempted to block the creation of a proposed marine national park at the Twelve Apostles location, but were satisfied with the later Victorian Government decision to not allow seismic exploration at the same site by Benaris Energy; believing it would harm marine life.

Port Alberni's Maritime Discovery Centre, constructed from an actual coastal lighthouse, is a unique maritime museum, situated on the waterfront adjacent to the city's deep-sea harbour. With its companion Hutcheson Gallery this museum is dedicated to exhibiting and interpreting the fascinating cultural, environmental and industrial maritime history.

The Port Alberni Lighthouse is part new, part old. The square, pyramidal tower is new, constructed in the 1990s by the Port Alberni Maritime Heritage Society using generic plans. The lantern, however, is historic, having been removed from Chrome Island on the East Coast of Vancouver Island when the Coast Guard modernized the light there. The Port Alberni Lighthouse is equipped with a beacon, which is turned on during the summer season, though it can't be left on at night because it disturbs the neighbors.

Chrome Island Lighthouse was established in 1891 at the eastern entrance to Baynes Sound, just off the southern tip of Denman Island. The first light there was situated atop the keeper’s dwelling, but was later replaced by a wooden tower and then in 1922 by a skeletal tower with an enclosed lantern room. The present concrete tower on Chrome Island was erected in 1989, and the lantern from the decommissioned skeletal tower was donated to the Port Alberni Maritime Heritage Society.

The Port Alberni Lighthouse contains displays on the lighthouses of British Columbia and their keepers along with a variety of other material relating to local maritime history.

Claret Decanter in "Crystal City" or "Wedding Ring" Pattern

J. Hoare & Company

Gotham Manufacturing Company

Made in Corning, NY and Providence, RI in 1892

2004.4.14

John Hoare (born Ireland, 1822–1896), who was granted a patent for this design in 1891, called it the “Crystal City” pattern. The pattern features interlocking circles often associated with weddings, so it is sometimes called “Wedding Ring.” The curvature of the smooth, undecorated rings was extremely difficult to achieve, but creates a brilliant optical effect.

The Corning Museum of Glass was founded in 1951 by Corning Glass Works (now Corning Incorporated) as a gift to the nation for the company's 100th anniversary. The not-for-profit museum is dedicated to the art, history and science of single material--glass--and currently has a collection of more than 50,000 glass objects, some more than 3,500 years old. The original museum was housed in a low, glass-walled building designed by Harrison & Abramovitz in 1951. Gunnar Bikerts' biomorphic, modernist addition expanded the museum's exhibition space when the now 68,000-square-foot museum opened to the public in 1980.

The Second Unique Jewel of the Collection Dedicated to Amy Winehouse designed and created by the Italian sculptor Emanuele Rubini is called BLACK SWALLOW. Il Secondo Gioiello Unico della collezione dedicata a Amy Winehouse disegnato e creato dallo scultore Italiano Emanuele Rubini si chiama RONDINE NERA. A marble swallow, light as a feather leans slightly like a caress on the neck of the woman who it wears. On the skin will be soft and enveloping, but especially ergonomic. The beauty and elegance of this Swallow lies in its apparent form sharp and pointed, from wings to the head, turned towards the sky as a sign of freedom. It is a true and its sculpture-jewel, designed for the woman who loves to be unique.
