One of a collection of Japanese netsuke I've just listed on eBay. They've been in a box in a cupboard for ages and not on display so during a radical declutter they went on the "things to eBay" pile.
Netsuke were used in Japan when people wore kimono that had no pockets. They would hang a small sectioned box (an inro) from their sash in order to store small quantities of things like snuff or tobacco. The netsuke was the toggle that slipped through the sash to keep the dangling inro in place. They were always carved into decorative items and are quite collectible in their own right now.
This one is rather nice boxwood and part of a collection of rat/mice netsuke. Hopefully someone out there'll fall for them and I'll clear a little more space to buy other stuff! (Ed. Doh! Surely it's not supposed to work that way?)

Today Andy and I went to the Driving Range, which was hliarious! Of course, i forgot to take a selfie at the time, so tonight you get a very old golf ball, part of a set of very old golf balls ditched in this week's declutter.

In an effort to declutter the kitchen, and to keep them from getting random grease from cooking on them, and to give the fridge better airflow... I moved my cookbooks and cooking magazines to the basement library. Then because I am obsessive I stacked the magazines in date order since 2000. ^_^

Chosen for my Photo a Day picture. I'm working my way through a project to declutter our house. This week is the bathroom, last week was the kitchen.
From left to right the boxes would be labeled: put away, give away and throw away. The idea came from From Organized Home.com. Declutter 101:Strategies To Cut Clutter.
I Try to use natural frame of the tree and surroundings, also focusing on the water fall and fading the exterior, using a tripod to keep the image steady, declutter the picture of unnecesary items, fill the frame, and use the sun but also the clouds to have an even color and lighting.
Cleaning the living room floor and surfaces for Apartment Therapy's 20/20 Home Cure. Obviously need to work on the landing area so coats, shoes and bags have space in their home. Also have to process kiddie artwork and declutter toys. But I found two missing puzzle pieces under the mat, chucked empty Play-Doh containers and peeled stickers and wiped fingerpaint off the floor.
Various TV, movie and art posters, some from my university days 17 years ago. Also some University of Surrey branded engineering drawing paper, unused as the university upgraded to computer aided drawing the year I started. Free to a good home.
It's day 29, which means there's only 1 day left in my 30 Day challenge. Today I tackled the Desk, which always seems messy and cluttered no matter how many times I clean it. But on the way home from work today, I stopped at Staples and picked up some cute organizer boxes (yes, I caved to the Martha Stewart collection, but it's so CUTE!!!) then came home and made a once-and-for-all effort to Declutter my Desk. And I did it!!!! All the usual little random bits and pieces and papers and miscellaneous things are finally neatly stored into appropriate boxes, and the boxes have LIDS so even though the contents might be random, they still look neat. And I downsized the pen jar to something that's a little more visible, then re-homed a bunch of stuff that really shouldn't live on the Desk. End result: my Desk actually finally feels very streamlined and organized.
My mom's brooch, which I remember since I am 4 years old, when she wore it on her gray, striped suit.
The brooch has been in my possession ever since her passing, now for more then 8 years. Only the other day did it occur to me to stick it on my old, funky felt hat (a dire necessity under the high altitude sun of the Southwest.) Now this little figure pleases me to no end and illustrates perfectly, to me, why letting go and throwing away stuff is so challenging. I never know when it may come in handy. Countless times I pulled out something I had not used in years, 10 years or more, to happily find a new and different purpose. Clutter is no fun, but good feng shui does not have to mean to throw out all that is old and - useless for a period of time! How are you dealing with your stuff?

So, last week the lovely Maisy Mouse and Toby came over for a play date. The boys were playing so nicely that lunch extended into tea time. Oh, and she helped me with my badly needed declutter by accepting a bag of E's handmedowns. One of the things we chatted about was how it's not fun being a grown up and having to spend your money on boring things that you need rather than exciting things that you want (a new mattress v a wide angle lens was my case in point).
Imagine my delight when I opened the post today to find an, erm, actually I don't know what it's called, it's like a kind of wide angle equivalent of a macro filter if you see what I mean. What an incredibly thoughtful and super cool thank you present is that?! I'm bowled over and can't wait to play with it properly.

About 25 years ago, the photographs were left to my parents in a Will by their next door neighbour of 30 years. At the time I said I'd look after them. Decluttering the attic I found the box with them all in. Many of them were taken in Norwich photography studios. I'm trying to date them as there's not much information on them. I guess they must be late 19C. They are not being added to the declutter pile. I'll carry on looking after them.
