We removed the hot tub, rebuilt the deck framing, installed new deck boards, pressure washed entire deck, allowed to dry then applied semisolid stain

Spotted a crow on my deck going for spilled seeds and corn, and took some hasty photos through a window with a lot of glare.

Re-built the surface of our deck with new 2" x 6" studs. Sanded 80, Sanded 120... two coats of Australian Timber Oil, 3 coats of Spar Urethane. Sanded 240 before the final coat.

There were two other privacy screens on the deck rail that Peter and I removed because the deck rail was starting to fall down. We wanted to get some of the weight off the rail so that it wouldn't just fall off.

MHI Remodels Decks

Clare and I went up to Santa Rosa to visit our friends Ivy and Robijn who were house sitting. After a nice meal and a soak in the hot tub we decided it would be a nice night to sleep outside. We threw some beds out on the deck and had a incredible night underneath the stars.

The next deck below the gun deck was the berth deck. Here the enlisted sailors slung their hammocks in crowded conditions. Note the naturally bent "knee" made from a single piece of wood cut from where a tree trunk and root meet that is used as an angular brace to support the deck above.
