Ever get the feeling that social media is getting just a little too intrusive in our daily lives?

(52.365) Yes, sadly enough, an Avatar reference in this title as I'm not feeling very creative in the title department tonight (do I ever, really?). This tree is a bit of home though. One of the few remaining fruit trees at my father's house. Though many of the trees and buildings that once occupied this place during my childhood are now gone - this tree remains.
I spent a lot of time sitting right there doing whatever it is that kids do with their free time. I climbed up it more than a few times to grab some fresh apples. Crashed my old rusty bicycle underneath it at least once or twice. Played with newborn lambs in that damp and shaded grass in the spring. And sat inside its sheltering embrace to silently witness a winter's snowfall.
When I look at this image I see as much that is missing as I do that is there. There should be a barbed wire fence running from right to left in the foreground. Rotten and moss-covered posts leaning and just barely keeping the wires taut. That fence makes a 90-degree turn just to the left of the tree and connects with a ramshackle barn in the background, obscuring the treeline seen here. And somewhere in there, I see myself.

Don't know what to do
Don't know of it really even matters to you

This is my tribute to the movie Amélie.
Theme week: Day five.
Today is painted hand face day. I had a really tough day today and coming home to do my sp this evening really helped to put me into a happy mood. I haven't painted for fun in a while, and I miss it.
Day 52 out of 365
The gift of eyesight.
The gift of glasses.
Do not underestimate it.
My first real stopmotion!
Deborah
She's my nephew's friend, we don't know each other too well, but gosh - she's the sweetest woman walking this Earth, I tell you! Thank you Deborah for this 2 minute photo-shoot :) xxx
I had to go on a "business" trip this week. My taxi was a CH-47 Chinook helicopter (last pic). All were take with a Tamron AF 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Macro ($198 AR from Amazon!!!).
This might be the best picture I have taken all year. In the big reflection you can see his M240 machine gun, the Afghan country side and in the upper right the rotor blade (blur). The boxes are walled in homes/"yards." If you look carefully, you can see the mountains (just outside of Gardez).
I'm needing to get out and about again, these wet dreary days are just not cricket so as I popped into town for a spot of shopping and wandering through Dalton Square this old bench caught my eye...a bit of tuning and Day 52 emerged.
Happy Bench Monday
Thanks for stopping to view my photo, comments and faves are very much appreciated :o)
...hear me, cease to speak that I may speak.
I finally listened to U2's new album, No line on the horizon, and I love it.
It's in a way different than their previous work but still tastes like classic U2, confusing, huh? :)
The album's official release is March 2 (it's been "accidentally" release a couple of times tho) but you can already listen to it here :
It's ok to click, Bono won't come after you, it's an official preview.

I leave the title open to interpretation today...
After Will posted another one of those great toys for boys the other day, I thought I do one too. (which is still on my list, unfortunately now I have to think of another way to show it... thanks a lot, man!)(check out his shot here)

When I was doing my "under the weather shots" I thought of raining cats and dogs. So I thought I'd hold Lulu with one hand over my head. I chickened out in case she balked. This was the one and only take. Poor Lulu.

My 50mm f/1.8G lens came today! It's so much fun to play around with it, and I'm loving the wider aperture options so far. I've tried it out a bunch already, and here's one of the practice shots. It's a Snow White puzzle that I got for Christmas, and is actually very challenging!
The latest snowstorm in the Twin Cities left behind trees down, power outages and almost 10 inches of snow.

A small taster of the event in Bicester today. The crowds were out in force - even the weather was kind - sunny and dry.
YIIP Day 52
We got two new chairs and a small side table for our deck. We're so ready to spend time outside.
I got a retinal scan at the optometrist. I didn't even know about 'em til Antomic put his up a while ago. So when they asked, "Do you want one?"
Heck YEAH! I LOVE getting pictures of the inside of me. Weird, I know, but I've had so many x-rays, upper GI's (from the surgery) and stuff, it's interesting to me. I almost wished I could have been awake to see my laproscopic surgery.
Yeah, I'm weird.
But check it out... this is my right eye, it's healthy, and... I got a freckle! In my eyeball!
I also learned the term for my eye color difference. It's called heterochromia.

I took a walk around my neighbourhood this afternoon and spotted this pretty weathered wooden gate. I liked the texture and the colour.

Here I am on Sunday at ConNooga with its creator! *fangirl* She turns out to be a fellow knitter, so we had us a nice conversation. And I got her autograph too :)
The purple pixie hat and long purple curlicue scarf that I was wearing last October at Alchemy, in a photo posted yesterday, are seen here again ... with the addition of a beautiful glittery set of purple and white wings. Whee!

Song of the Day: Breaking the Broken - Sparta
Today was really hard. I had to confront someone who was very close to me. He wronged me, and it kills me cause he's such a cool person that I feel like I'm losing out by not seeing him, even tho he doesn't deserve me right now. He needs to grow up and be a man before I can see him again. But hey, these things happen and are often for the best. Apparently when I'm upset the only thing that can get me through when he's not around is smoking Djarums and drinking White Russians. Here's to a Downward Spiral. So it goes...........I guess.
p.s. I stole a wheelchair tonight in my drunken stupor. I'm so proud.
Apologies if you tuned in to see more Luminarium shots but the broadcast has been interrupted to bring you photo taken this afternoon at Blenheim Palace, host of the Olympic Torch Relay before it moved on to Oxford.

Bunny is not the first Greyhound I've had in my life. Our first Greyhound was Treat, and she was the perfect dog -- at least for us. I loved her deeply and sometimes I still miss her. She developed a spinal tumor and in just five short weeks, she was gone. I was heartbroken, and I felt disconnected. Treat and I had done therapy dog work together, and I realized that I didn't want to give it up. I desperately missed that connection, so we took Blueberry with us and went up to visit the adoption kennel several weeks after Treat's death. I met a dozen sweet dogs who just...weren't the one. Finally, they brought in this tiny little Greyhound so new that they knew nothing about her. She walked in, leaned against my leg and looked up at me with the most gorgeous amber eyes I've ever seen. The rest, as they say, is history.
The fact of the matter is, if you love a dog, you'll get your heart broken. Their lives just aren't long enough. But I don't look at that as a reason not to fall in love again. Yes, in the end, you will be sad, but before that happens, there will be a million wonderful moments and memories. Living life with a dog is a lot like the Phoenix cycle, and I am so glad that I took the chance again. Someday, a long time from now, I hope, it will be time to say good-bye to Bunny, but I hope that we have no regrets about our journey together along the way.
You can read more about Bunny at TalesAndTails.com.
Some days, like today, I really push myself to make decisions and move forward.
Today I stepped closer to a brighter future!
Sleep tight.
Day 52 of 365 (Year Four)
Yesterday we got together with my parents and my sister and her family to go see The Lighting Thief. Originally we had planned to see it on opening weekend, but 40" plus of snow sort of interfered with that.
Most of the group enjoyed the film. I didn't not enjoy the film, but, having read the book, I was a bit disappointed in the story's leap to the big screen. As is so often the case, there was a lot left out and the story was changed a bit. I fully understand that movies, unlike books, have certain limitations, the first being a limited amount of time in which to tell the story. What bothers me is that many of the changes seem so arbitrary. I wouldn't be nearly as irritated by this if the changes made sense, but most of the time the changes don't make sense to me.
(Spoiler Alert: I'm going to talk about the movie so if you haven't seen it and don't want to know, then stop reading)
In Percy Jackson the book, the heroes are waylaid in St. Louis. In the movie they have to travel to Nashville instead. Why? My guess is that since they cut out all mention of the Mist they had to write out any event that would be witnessed by the human population and thus require an explanation of the Mist. How they are going to deal with this in subsequent movies in beyond me. A full out assault on New York City is pretty hard to hide. The change of location didn't bother me as much as other items in the film did.
There were several main characters, who I liked in the book, that were totally eliminated in the movie. Dionysus, Clarisse, the Oracle and Ares to name a few. They also changed the entire set up of Camp Half-Blood. The author's description of the camp was pretty clear and was even mapped out in a companion book to the series. The description of each cabin was pretty well defined as well and completely changed for the movie. Personally, I think something that well defined in a book should carry through to the big screen.
Kronos was also removed from the story. This was probably the least irritating of the changes. Instead they just blamed the theft of Zues' Master Bolt on Luke and his anger towards Hermes. Kronos' involvement in the first book was minimal and his absence from the movie wasn't a big deal. His involvement can easily be dealt with in subsequent novels.
One of the biggest omissions was the prophecy. Rather than deal with the big prophecy which is why Percy is viewed as such a large threat to the Olympians. Rather than having Percy's father a mystery due to the law prohibiting the big three from having children due to the prophecy (a pretty important item in the book), they reveal it pretty quickly and explain away Percy's not knowing who is father is because Zues has forbidden talking to the offspring of the gods. In the book, the reveal of Percy's fathers is a big deal. In the movie is treated as no big deal. Oh, by the way, Poseidon is your dad, he built this cabin for you. In the book, nobody knows and when Poseidon reveals himself as Percy's father it has some major impacts.
While I was disappointed with certain elements, or lack thereof, what bothered me most were the special effects. Most of the special effects were pretty good. The hydra, Medusa, the Fury, the centaurs, the minotaur were all top notch. The scenes where Percy manipulated water and used his "powers" were also well done. It is obvious that a lot of time and though went into those sequences which makes certain other scenes really stand out in their lack of quality. There were two scenes in particular where the special effects were just poor.
The first was during the Medusa battle and Annabeth had her wrist trapped by a mortal who had been turned to stone. I've seen better green screening in a cheap Sci-Fi Channel flick.
The second was when Hades popped up at Camp Half-Blood and showed Percy that his mother was still alive by projecting her image in flames. It was really poorly done.
To see that they spent so much time and effort on the rest of the film makes me wonder why they didn't spend the extra time to make those scenes as equally good.
All in all, I did enjoy the movie, but it wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. Compared to some of the other book to movie adaptations I've seen in the past, this one wasn't too terrible. It certainly was better than the last Potter movie, which really disturbed me with some of their story changes, The Golden Compass, which was just garbage, and Eragon, which was apparently made by a guy who only read the Cliff Notes for the book.
Soo, I got these shoes! And I'm in looove with them. <3 But, they hurt my feet, a lot. And I've fallen over three times already. It's so scaaary walking in four inch heels. But, they make me taller than my mom. Four inches plus a five inch platform. <3 Wee.
I tend to get my hands into many things at once. And I wouldn’t get started unless I am at least somewhat interested. But I can never commit to just that one thing. I hate the idea that taking one thing seriously means shifting the rest to the side. In this way, it’s hard for me to prioritize. I realize that I’m effectively doing many things in a mediocre way rather than a few things really well, but I just hate feeling like I’m abandoning potential hobbies.

A week or so ago I went to a printing workshop. I took photos of the prints, then used some as layers and blended them.
I really liked how yesterday's diptych of the old camera came out so I dug out another one from my brother's collection. This time it's an Aires 35-III from the 1950's (I think).
Hey, it's Day 52. Tell you what - how about an abstracty shot today? Why not?!
What happened here...? Well, because the sky wasn't very interesting today I had the idea of extending my ladder against the side of the house - and fastening the camera to the top rung using the gorilla pod. Lighting everything from below.
Guess what? I didn't work. By the time this shot came around the camera had kind of sagged so it was shooting more of the wall than me (hence me being crammed into one distorted corner). But I kind of like the way the wall looks, so I'm going with it.
Lighting: 580EXII (1/16 power) down there on the tripod, on the ground, looking up at you.
Doesn't the word 'rung' just look wrong? I love words like that :-)
