A fun little fact for you guys is that David actually photographed me for the first time at the Melbourne Camera Club in 2002 - just over 22 years ago now. We couldn't have known then that we'd continue to work together for what has become literally decades later but Dave tells me I'm one of the only people he has shot repeatedly for 20+ years. I'll find a photo from our shoot back then but in the meantime, enjoy this new one from a few weeks' ago :)

As well as trying to get some creative shots into this 366 it is definitely important for me to include the highlights of the year too. And here is one such moment - our Wedding Albums are all finalised, and they look awesome! Bringing back some incredibly special memories....

Took me a few go's to get this about right as it was just so incredibly dark. There is literally no moonlight around right now, and I ended up having to add some torch-liht in just to get the shot. I will definitely be going back when the moon makes an appearance in a couple of week's time...

Well, today has been an utterly crazy day. Guernsey has been battered by storms for most of the day: hail / high winds / and the highest tide of the year (10 meters!).
This made for some interesting conditions for photography. I think I had to stop, and start all over again at least 5 times as my equipment (camera and filters) got soaked so many times. It was chaotic, but great fun too.
Bring on more of the same tomorrow :O)

I am delighted to announce the release of my very first E-book.
A step-by-step guide to Light Painting
After five years of spinning lights around, I have finally managed to find the time to fulfil what has been a personal goal of mine for some time, writing a book about a subject that I love: Light Painting.
www.davidgilliver.com/photography/
You do not need to be an experienced photographer to get the hang of and enjoy Light Painting. The main aim of my E-book is to try to save anyone who is new to Light Painting a heap of time by highlighting some of the key considerations that should be made such as:
*****Getting your head around Light Painting*****
We take a closer look at the general concept of Light Painting: How does it work? What effects can you create?
*****Camera Settings*****
I discuss the DSLR camera settings that work best
*****Light Painting Tools*****
We take a look at a variety of portable light sources and look at examples of Light Paintings that can be created using each of them
*****Light Painting Creations (including ‘How to create the perfect Orb’)*****
We take a closer look at several of the more popular forms of Light Painting: Orbs, Ribbons, Physiograms, Domes and Star Trails. I describe in complete detail with photographic illustrations and descriptions how you set about making each one. Every year I receive lots of emails from people asking me how I create my Orbs – this topic is covered in great detail
*****The Full Monty*****
Putting everything into practice. Join me on a night photography Light Painting shoot where we look at the entire creative process from start to finish
I have not held anything back, as I wanted to share everything with you that I have learned over the past five years. This book is truly a labour of love and I hope you find it incredibly helpful.
This E-book is 55 pages long, costs only £12 and is absolutely crammed with useful information and helpful tips.
As always, thanks for showing an interest in me and my work and the very best of luck with your Light Painting journey.
David
She has been incredibly alert right from the off, and her eyes follow us everywhere we go which I am told is very rare for a new born. At least we know she has great eyesight :O)

To Write Love On Her Arms
TWLOHA is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.
Earlier this year I created a body of work especially for TWLOHA. By adding light to darkness (by way of Light Painting), I hope my photography conveys this important message: It is never truly dark.
I find the concept of being present in each of the photographs yet remaining invisible quite incredible. I have an undeniable presence in each photograph yet there is no evidence that I was there other than the light sculptures that have been left behind.
Some individuals will associate nighttime with negativity, as natural light has faded, leaving everything in darkness. However, as my photography proves at the end of each long exposure, there is still an element of natural light there, proving that it is never truly dark.
You can find out more about TWLOHA by visiting their website www.TWLOHA.com and you can also find out more about this particular body of work here: twloha.com/blog/it-never-truly-dark
I am donating 50% of all proceeds raised through the sale of my Light Painting E-book from the following link to TWLOHA: www.davidgilliver.com/photography/twloha/

Leaving in a few hours to pick up my youngest brother and his now fiancé from the airport after an incredible 3 week holiday in Europe.
I am so, so happy for them both. He met his soon-to-be-wife in mid 2020 and she met Mum as his love interest initially. I'll never forget Mum coming into my room afterwards to tell me that she had such a good feeling about her and that she felt she really could be 'it' for him. Like so many things, she was absolutely right.
Congratulations little bro. You deserve the world <3

Well, I can't let Jules have all the fun can I? Especially after all the help he gave me in the winter with these physiograms...so this one is definitely for you buddy!
Nice sunny days and dark nights at the moment so going to try and make use of both.

Another weekend of study for me with some big assessments due in the next few weeks but I thought I'd jump on Flickr before bed to post this one from my shoot with David Gilliver a few months back.
My next shoot is in the first weekend of December, which coincides with the end of Term 2 for my Dip. of Digital Marketing course. It's no accident that I've waited until then to shoot. Shooting for us is generally a full day event when you factor in makeup, travel times and the shoot itself and I can't afford that kind of time off with Uni right now - so I guess you'll all just have to wait :)
