Three Orbs. Not sure what else to say?! It was really windy tonight and spinning was pretty tricky so was quite chuffed that they look round at least! Winter is definitely approaching...

I am delighted to announce the release of my very first E-book:
A step-by-step guide to Light Painting
After five years of spinning lights around, I have finally managed to find the time to fulfil what has been a personal goal of mine for some time, writing a book about a subject that I love: Light Painting.
www.davidgilliver.com/photography/
You do not need to be an experienced photographer to get the hang of and enjoy Light Painting. The main aim of my E-book is to try to save anyone who is new to Light Painting a heap of time by highlighting some of the key considerations that should be made such as:
- Getting your head around Light Painting
We take a closer look at the general concept of Light Painting: How does it work? What effects can you create?
- Camera Settings
I discuss the DSLR camera settings that work best
- Light Painting Tools
We take a look at a variety of portable light sources and look at examples of Light Paintings that can be created using each of them
- Light Painting Creations (including ‘How to create the perfect Orb’)
We take a closer look at several of the more popular forms of Light Painting: Orbs, Ribbons, Physiograms, Domes and Star Trails. I describe in complete detail with photographic illustrations and descriptions how you set about making each one. Every year I receive lots of emails from people asking me how I create my Orbs – this topic is covered in great detail
- The Full Monty
Putting everything into practice. Join me on a night photography Light Painting shoot where we look at the entire creative process from start to finish
I have not held anything back, as I wanted to share everything with you that I have learned over the past five years. This book is truly a labour of love and I hope you find it incredibly helpful.
This E-book is 55 pages long, costs only £12 and is absolutely crammed with useful information and helpful tips.
As always, thanks for showing an interest in me and my work and the very best of luck with your Light Painting journey.
David

Well, our little bundle of joy is due to arrive any day now and we just can't wait to meet them!
Although we are starting to feel a little impatient, I am not sure this is the right way of going about speeding things up....

Planet Orb - it is covered with volcanoes and is a very weird place indeed!
This is where the Orbs go to re-charge (apparently) - right in between 2 volcanoes. Crikey!

Well, the weather is an absolute disgrace for mid-May in the Channel Islands, and so I was forced back underground today to avoid the rain ;o)
Managed to crack out the Lenser when the other visitors had all vanished from my vacinity - would have looked like a right wally otherwise!

In order to celebrate the end of my 2014 365 project, I have prepared a few mosaics using all of my photographs - it just seems like the perfect way to end things!
This particular Mosaic is comprised of 5,000 images, all taken last year during the project.
Thanks again to everyone who viewed my work along the way. Let's see what 2015 has in store :O)
Happy New Year again everyone.

Absolutely gutted. The first free evening I have had all week. Forecast: clear, with low winds. So the plan was to head out on my first decent night shoot in 6 weeks and guess what? RAIN!

Well, I have the folks visiting this week and so it was time to demonstrate the art of light painting to my Mum! It was so nice to take her along with me to one of my favourite spots and show her what it's all about. Thanks for your help tonight Mum :O)

To Write Love On Her Arms:
TWLOHA is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.
Earlier this year I created a body of work especially for TWLOHA. By adding light to darkness (by way of Light Painting), I hope my photography conveys this important message: It is never truly dark.
I find the concept of being present in each of the photographs yet remaining invisible quite incredible. I have an undeniable presence in each photograph yet there is no evidence that I was there other than the light sculptures that have been left behind.
Some individuals will associate nighttime with negativity, as natural light has faded, leaving everything in darkness. However, as my photography proves at the end of each long exposure, there is still an element of natural light there, proving that it is never truly dark.
You can find out more about TWLOHA by visiting their website www.TWLOHA.com and you can also find out more about this particular body of work here: twloha.com/blog/it-never-truly-dark
I am donating 50% of all proceeds raised through the sale of my Light Painting E-book from the following link to TWLOHA: www.davidgilliver.com/photography/twloha/

Get better soon Schumi!
Horrendous news. Here's hoping that he is back on the mend soon.
To all my Flickr friends - a very Happy New Year to you. I hope that 2014 is a great year for you all.
I am 99% sure I am not going to be doing another 365 this year, but maybe one a week is a more realistic target ;o)
