A re-shoot of a previous shot that I quite liked. The previous version was heavily cropped and so it's good to have this image back in my collection in all its high-res goodness.

OK...so I couldn't resist the crop. But I really wanted to get rid of some unwanted space from either side of the frame. Weather looks to be taking a turn for the worse...oh oh!

I was so frustrated when I realised that the sand my camera and tripod were standing in was so damp, that it had meant the camera gear had been slowly sinking during the exposure. This meant that a lot of sharpness has sadly been lost from the final shot, but at least I can use this image as a sketch for my next outing.

I am delighted to announce the release of my very first E-book:
A step-by-step guide to Light Painting
After five years of spinning lights around, I have finally managed to find the time to fulfil what has been a personal goal of mine for some time, writing a book about a subject that I love: Light Painting.
www.davidgilliver.com/photography/
You do not need to be an experienced photographer to get the hang of and enjoy Light Painting. The main aim of my E-book is to try to save anyone who is new to Light Painting a heap of time by highlighting some of the key considerations that should be made such as:
- Getting your head around Light Painting
We take a closer look at the general concept of Light Painting: How does it work? What effects can you create?
- Camera Settings
I discuss the DSLR camera settings that work best
- Light Painting Tools
We take a look at a variety of portable light sources and look at examples of Light Paintings that can be created using each of them
- Light Painting Creations (including ‘How to create the perfect Orb’)
We take a closer look at several of the more popular forms of Light Painting: Orbs, Ribbons, Physiograms, Domes and Star Trails. I describe in complete detail with photographic illustrations and descriptions how you set about making each one. Every year I receive lots of emails from people asking me how I create my Orbs – this topic is covered in great detail
- The Full Monty
Putting everything into practice. Join me on a night photography Light Painting shoot where we look at the entire creative process from start to finish
I have not held anything back, as I wanted to share everything with you that I have learned over the past five years. This book is truly a labour of love and I hope you find it incredibly helpful.
This E-book is 55 pages long, costs only £12 and is absolutely crammed with useful information and helpful tips.
As always, thanks for showing an interest in me and my work and the very best of luck with your Light Painting journey.

It was the perfect weather to spend all my time out outside today. And I am very glad I did as I was treated to a fantastic sunset way out West.

Which daft begger suggested this then.... Oh yeah me!! This seemed like such a good idea about 6 weeks ago when chatting to pikebubbles now I'm not so sure. We have also got colinhcameron and ningaloo on board too.
I'm hoping to use this to push me into learning new things and techniques... But as light paintings my thing I figured I would start with what I know best. Not really the shot I wanted, but in typical Marshall fashion I had left it to the last minute!!
I know its always a 365 that people do but its a leap year....Its this one extra picture this year thats going to beat me I think!!
Cameras at the ready, good luck Gents.
One of the light paintings that featured in my first solo exhibition that took place at the tail end of last year (B&W for a change).
All of these light paintings were created inside the disused tower block called 'Cour du Parc' which was a rather terrifying experience!

OK...I promise not to upload so many snaps from the same batch in future, just put this down to excitement for now.

Put on the red light....
Long Exposures - stacked
West Coast, Guernsey C.I.
This shot should have been twice the number of exposures, but sadly my lens fogged up after about 20 minutes. D'oh!!

Well, I am really struggling to find any time to make it out to light paint these days due to other important commitments, but I managed to make it out tonight to have a quick play. Conditions were nice! No wind, and some decent light from the moon. Hopefully I will be able to make it out again soon...

OK, so I was not going to upload this one as it was a little too dark, but then I noticed that I somehow got lucky and managed to capture two shooting stars. OK, they are not the brightest, but shooting stars all the same. Does that mean I get 2 wishes?!

I was telling Mel about how insane / hilarious the 'Good House Wife's Guide' was the other night, and so I thought it only right that I pay homage to such a relic. The tone of the book has been consigned to history now thankfully!
We are GO FOR LAUNCH!
My new interactive eBook is now available to purchase on my website here: davidgilliver.com/product-category/books/
I hope anyone who buys it enjoys the read, and I hope it becomes a really useful learning and teaching resource for anyone who loves photography!
Thanks,

Well, it was time to fit in a spot of light painting to what has been a pretty insane schedule.
I bought Nikon's awesome D800 back in the summer - it is such a fantastic camera, especially for long exposure photography.
Now that we have a decent back garden, this will now be my new testing ground which is rather handy. More results to follow shortly...
On a rather different note (but still related) - something rather exciting happened last week which I hope to be able to share with everyone very soon.

Three Orbs. Not sure what else to say?! It was really windy tonight and spinning was pretty tricky so was quite chuffed that they look round at least! Winter is definitely approaching...
