This girl was my ultimate pick from all four Poppys unveiled with the Mystery Date collection. In hand, she immediately brought to mind Colleen Corby as a possible inspiration, so that makes me determined to work around some of her initial issues.
Her ponytail was a bit of a mess when it arrived, so she sat with a Barbie sunviser to set the reapplied gel for her side swoop.
Then there are her lashes, making her eyes look uneven. I've photographed her here from the best angle to minimize, but eventually I will also try to reset them with warm/cold temperature treatment to see if that opens her left eye more.
Those who know me know that I'm rather forgiving of factory flaws (sometimes it gives the dolls more personality), but I do have to say that recently, it has gotten harder to overlook some of the production missteps. Here's hoping Integrity can actually make changes as the pandemic curbs.

A photo of Elizabeth "Betty" Mulvihill and her handsome date, taken by an unknown photographer at a UCLA sorority dance, circa 1950.
Many will recognize a younger James Dean than we typically see in pictures and movies. He is nineteen or twenty here, in the year before he traveled to New York and studied in The Actor's Studio under Lee Strasberg.
Provenance of this photo is uncertain. Family members believed the negative was stored in the floor safe in Betty's Costa Mesa home, but it has never been found there or elsewhere. I don't believe she was ever in possession of the negative, but rather a silver print, as it was the practice of photographers in those days to sell prints and retain the negatives and rights to their images. This photographer would have had no knowledge of James' future fame or the potential value of this image. The negative was probably filed away and later discarded.
The silver print has, likewise, never been found. What you see here is a scan of a low quality 11X14 enlargement that hangs in our dining room. I've made minimal adjustments for tonal scale.
James was studying theater at UCLA, and first met Betty's mother and aunt at their hair salon in nearby Beverly Hills. As the story is told, he also received math tutoring from Betty's aunt in the Beverly Hills home she shared with Betty's mother.(these were remarkably successful and independent women).
Betty was young, smart, beautiful and--best of all--only 5'-2" tall. They made a stunning couple, and saw one another often until James departed for New York.
Sadly, this is where their story ended.
Dating from 1891 this wonderful small sculpted figure by Jean Carriès is the spitting image of a certain cinematic Gollum don't you think? Surely this was a possible inspirational jump?
just added this ridiculously huge stamp to my vintage shop - it makes me laugh every time i look at it. 7.5" tall!

Caroline and Quinn have been trying to meet each other for months, so when Quinn text me about doing a shoot yesterday afternoon, I figured I'd try to make it happen. Since I have an inability to shut up and I keep meeting new people, it's gotten much harder over the past couple of years to introduce all of my models to the new faces. They tend to just admire each others photos when I post them, and form some sort of digital connection.
But these two got to play by the river for a bit, and we got some great photos on some snazzy looking gold frame Impossible Project film. We even saw a huge snake swimming in the river, looking for a warm enough spot to chill. So that was two first: these lovely ladies meeting and seeing a snake by the river. You never know what a day can bring.

Bumbling around Dublin, it moreso reminded me of the Ukranian national colours, which are themselves all over Dublin at the moment in solidarity with their country continuing to grapple with the Russian invasion.
