Storm Chasing Video from afternoon / evening on Flickr Click Here
Southwest of of Overton Nebraska...
This set of images is what I live for... Those epic moments when you finally hunted/found what your looking for. It does take a lot of patience to storm chase. The waiting, the planning, the doing. But the rewards at the end are priceless. My antlers on the wall.
Now for some storm chasers... the Holy Grail of Storm chasing is a Tornado. But not for me. It is events like this that give the full definition of Storm Chasing. It really what storm chasing Eye Candy is all about! It is the "Why" or the understanding of why I do this!
One the edge of this Nebraska Supercell I felt the AWE of Mother Nature!
Surreal!
Epic
Awesome!

Early season storms here in Nebraska are simply surreal. The epic beauty that surpasses the sunset's ability to crest its light against the ominous position of this storm that evening.
Sunset cresting into twilight with a huge anvil (Cumulonimbus Incus) approaching from the northwest into South Central Nebraska.
I had way over colorized saturated other things to this original set of images. So I went back & took the raw images back to their original color templates & remastered them back to the original color specs of the origin image.
I only had a few of these published when I posted them back in 2017. Here is the entire set reworked!

I took this shot in the morning while going to the fair,
I stopped at my favorite place when I saw a pair of swans swimming there,
I used the flash on a very dark day to accent those leafs in the foreground,

Autumn foliage suddenly thrashes with the wind as warm air encounters cold over a rural Vermont countryside. Amazingly shaped clouds develop and are an indicator of stormy weather to follow.
A LE of Trevose Light House. A 409sec exposure in an attempt to have some movement from the motionless clouds. Nisi 10 stop, Nisi 3stop med grad and Nisi CPL
The last day
Low clouds, wind and thin rain, this is the weather of a day with a somewhat special atmosphere even if melancholy.
All this, on the last day as a resident up here, a painful but necessary choice, before here, the long autumn night swallows me for too many hours and months.

May 30 2011 - Sumner, Miller, Amherst, Riverdale Nebraska US
Moderate Risk, and there were already severe weather warnings and tornado warnings for this storm as it approached from the northwest.
Sumner Nebraska... right on the outskirts of this rural town when we finally could see some good definition on the shelf and outflow of this storm.
This is when things were starting to get serious... Several lowering indicated a sizable rotating wall cloud just off to our northwest. It definitely got our attention.
Then... BOOM Tornado just to due north about 500 to 700 Yards out. Nice derbies field to confirm this tornado just north of Sumner Nebraska!

It has been an excellent start to the 2016 chase Season. Bonus was, that I had the day off and no commitments except for storm chasing. I was set for an Epic Day!
I ended up with well over 700 pic from this storm chasing event, but I've skimmed it down to about 100+. Truly this will become some of my best severe weather photography to date...
I was seriously late the game on this storm. But I was never out of the game. I had now positioned myself just to the North of Wray Colorado.
Strategically, you want to be to the south east, southwest for the best light... It's all about timing, and I thought it wouldn't produce till it was well west of my location. Giving me that perfect view of the backside rotation of the storm.
In my opinion, I found a perfect view, looking due south southeast. I ended up on the northwest side of the rotation. Dangerous yes...but this will eventually give me one excellent view of this tornado and all her glory.

Another view from our hike to Pew Tor last Saturday. This is one on top of the granite outcrops. The ponies were a lovely plus. The landscape could easily be the set for a Lord of the Rings film!
On Saturday, we explored a popular part of Dartmoor which we have left out so far - the Bellever forest and Bellever Tor area. We mixed up the existing hiking paths to create our own circular walk and that way came across a range of interesting sights, including more fascinating Bronze Age relics. The photo is from the granite stacks of Bellever Tor. Being the highest point in that area there's fabulous 360 degrees distant views into Dartmoor. A little break in the otherwise darker day provided some nice sunlight on the rocks for my photo.
For anyone interested, here a video of our walk: youtu.be/1HLD261iI0k

In Eisenstadt, the capital of the Austrian federal state of Burgenland. With 301,311 inhabitants, this state is the least populous in Austria, and the small capital has only 15,729 inhabitants. This insignificant town belongs to the commuter area of Vienna, which is about 55 km away.
However, the Social Democratic governor of this tiny state, Hans Peter Doskozil, likes to show off and pretend that his state is of any importance. In this way, he has completely confused the Social Democratic Party of all of Austria.

A capture across the bay on Omena with dark clouds gathering in the distance. A heavy storm erupted shortly afterwards which lasted about 10 minutes and then the sky just cleared instantly. Was so strange but beautiful to watch
Rural landscape at Parana State, Southern Brazil. This huge storms are common by the end of the day with the increasing temperatures. I found this composition and start shooting and hoping I could catch a lightning. I've seen some wonderful but no one in my frame.
One of the few hidden gems in Interlaken. Geography the city is situated between two lakes with turquoise colored water visible from a long distance if you're traveling via road.
