Stock Dove / columba venas. Attenborough, Nottinghamshire. 17/05/21.
Stock Doves, unobtrusive and underrated birds, but always a pleasure to see. Fortunately a small population live and breed at Attenborough Nature Reserve. With a little patience they are almost a guaranteed sighting.
This beauty positively glowed in late afternoon sunlight. It dropped down with it's mate close to the water to forage for food. Both were typically nervous and flighty but thankfully, kept returning.
BEST VIEWED LARGE.
The weather was glorious ... Standing in the shade of a tree in cool green light, with bright sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees, illuminating foliage, reflecting and creating dappled patterns on the clear water of this stream. I quite like the Impressionist feel to this image.

These youngsters seemed to have a carefully contrived androgynous approach to clothing and walked with oodles of self confidence. I only noticed the shirt slogan after clicking. Shot from the hip.
One sunny afternoon back in September 2018 taken whilst evaluating my wife's Panasonic LX100 as a potential street camera. Pretty capable and discreet little tool as it turns out!

nice to have the top cover off the tent for the view of the trees and sky, and at night with twinkling stars inbetween the branches
My boys would only let me take their photos while they were sleeping and imitating snails. Yes, they are definitely cute when they sleep, but I wanted something a little more interesting.
Looking through my archives I came across this photo of a young cheetah, taken at the Brevard Zoo years ago.
I realize many people are opposed to zoos...I have own my reservations .
But I can't imagine where else I would've seen a real cheetah other than TV, and really, seeing them live is 100 times better. Many zoos have breeding programs that keep endangered species from disappearing. In addition, some zoos have hospitals wherein they nurse injured animals and then release them back into the wild.
When I read of hunters killing for sport, I wish every animal could be protected by a zoo.
Happy Caturday!
Thanks to all for viewing, faving and/or commenting! Much appreciated! L 😊

Explore # 303 ...... many thanks :) :)
The noise of a hidden brook in the leafy month of June fills you with such pleasure and along with the dappled light filtering through the trees and the birds singing sweetly around you the moment is quite therapeutic and one that deserved to be taken in very slowly and for as long as you need.
I'll be busy the rest of today... Going to a friend house for a barbecue then out to dinner and bowling with some other friends... Shot for Active Assignment, theme "Dappled Light"
WIT
I was for my work in Copenhagen, Denmark, the beginning of this week. And while walking from hotel to meeting place I spotted this beautifully coloured old house with a few bikes parked (Denmark is even more friendly for bicycles than The Netherlands!). And thanks to the assignment I also noticed the Dappled Light... So everything was perfect, except for the fact that I did not bring a camera other than my smartphone. In post a bit color correction but for the rest SOOS.
This is the original colour version of an image I posted previously in B&W. I'm not sure which I prefer...
Looking at the settings I'm also unsure why I'm at 1/4000 ISO 800. I suspect I'd been capturing bugs and forgot to change my settings! A regular occurrence!

Beautiful dappled light bathing a mum and joey kangaroo. Taken in Olive Pink Botanic Garden which borders bushland in Alice Springs Northern Territory.
The light was pretty un-promising when we arrived, but the cloud started to break soon after, resulting in lovely splashes of light across the landscape. Manchester just about visible in the haze in the distance.
A babbling brook on a hot summer's day where you long to cool your feet in the cold mountain waters. Serenity!
Respecting the signs to stay on the path, the sun lit a patch of bluebells on the edge of the path.

Title borrowed from an episode of "Tales of the Unexpected", a TV show aired in the UK between 1979-1988. The series began as adaptions of short stories written by the author Roald Dahl, probably better known for his children's novels.
There is a serene and settled majesty to woodland scenery that enters into the soul and delights and elevates it, and fills it with noble inclinations. ~ Washington Irving.
"Curious Cub and Butterfly" by Patti Deters. A lion (Panthera Leo) cub and mother rest on a grassy hillside, enjoying each other's company amidst dappled sunlight. The curious juvenile gazes with interest on a monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) fluttering nearby. This moment freezes a classic meeting of the powerful and the delicate. Imagine the little cub, future ruler of the plains, momentarily distracted from its kingly duties by the silent, airy dance of the butterfly—a tiny, winged creature on a massive migratory journey. It's a whimsical, fleeting instance where the wild heart of a large predator meets the quiet wonder of the small world. These social cats, often called the "King of the Jungle" (though they live in grasslands, not jungles), have a history intertwined with humanity, appearing in ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures as symbols of royalty, courage, and power.
