Photo coverage of the Thailand Game Show that took place between Jan 11 and 13th. I only knew of the existence of the Tokyo Game Show but never knew of the Thailand Game Show.
The Thailand Game Show has been running for quite a number of years now and is organised by celebrity Pongsuk Hiranprueck. Previous guests include Jam Project. This years Japan guest was me ^^;
While TGS does have some console game coverage, most of it is PC games - and most of that being League of Legends. I still have not got into PC gaming yet but I've been looking for a way for me to play online games with my readers. At the moment I try to get regular time with my PS Vita, PS3 or Xbox - but all of them have a friend limit.
There was quite a presence of Japanese anime in the form of cosplay and booths selling merchandise. Through our booth at TGS this year, we discovered that there was a high demand for Japanese content.
Comrades at HIVE were involved in some of the planning and they recommended me as a guest to Pongsuk which is why I was at TGS. I was asked to give a talk on MICE which is a strategy that many governments are trying to utilize to increase tourism. Through attending various events around the world and being involved in the planning of such events like Anime Expo and AFA, I gave some insight into what organisations should be doing to build their MICE experience.
Anyway, I'm going to leave you with the rest of the photo coverage below^o^

The syringe included enables you to take samples of your soldiers which you would then inject into your best friends cuppa tea.
You can also use the syringe to blow up the mousepad.

About 20 mins later and I'm all done! The flavour I chose was Cyanogenmod 10.1 Nightly. I used SMS Backup & Restore to backup my SMS messages.
The rest of my data is all on Google - contacts, save data, apps and wot not. All of that gets installed in the new system automatically after logging in.
All Android phones require a Google account. Gmail is my mail tool and I love the way that people I reply to just appear in my contacts on my phone. Google calendar schedules also automatically appear without having to do anything.

Recently had a giveaway to win this Racing Miku from Good Smile Company over at Facebook - winner announced this morning.
But the nice folks at Hobby Search are offering another Racing Miku as a giveaway! This time we'll run the giveaway here at dannychoo.com.
To win, all you have to do is leave a comment below with your feedback on what sort of improvements you would like to see around here - it can be anything from "more posts about Japan, figures, dolls or wot not" to "site needs speeding up" or "I want to earn points when I comment so that I can use those points for getting discounts when buying figures online" - leave any feedback that would help me improve the community and content. If you are already content with everything, just leave a comment to let me know what you already like.
I'm asking because we are nearing the completion of the Ruby version of Mirai Gaia. As many of you know, Mirai Gaia is the web platform that runs this and all of my client sites too.
Ruby will run on Amazon EC2 and will be able to scale as traffic increases. I'm also thinking of merging figure.fm back to this site and include proper comrades functionality so that you can follow the posts belonging to just your comrades. There will be a single Culture Japan account which you can use across a variety of networks too.
The main reason why we lost the community was because I could not afford to maintain it - server costs are obscene! Now that my company is making a wee bit of a profit, I can afford to invest into scaling my web properties. All your data is safe and will be available on the new platform too.
The new Mirai Gaia will provide you with a bunch of tools to pull and push your content to and from networks such as Flickr, Tumblr, Twitter, Wordpress etc. I want to provide you with tools that make content creation as easy as doing a bottom burp.
As I have a large amount of Japanese users too - I want to connect you with them through the new platform which will help you absorb the culture much quicker though making new Japanese friends.
If you think that the otaku/Japan content community is missing something and you would like to see it then mention that in your comment too. If you are a dab hand at photoshop, have a good sense of design, can translate from Japanese to English and would like to do some part time work to help out on the up n coming stuff then leave a comment too!
Will choose a winner this time next week - the winner will be notified by me replying to your comment below. I'll need your snail mail which I will pass onto Hobby Search - they will send you your Racing Miku when she's out later this year.

Busou Shinki [武装神姫] is a mecha musume series based on Konami’s Busou Shinki figure line. Directed by Kikuchi Yasuhito [菊地康仁] (Macross Frontier, Infinite Stratos) and produced by 8-Bit (Aquarion Evol, Infinite Stratos), Busou Shinki has the trappings to feature a lot of pint-sized action.
The story takes place in the near future where these 15cm tall figures each have their own AI and fit into the fun and antics of everyday life.

This post outlined many things that I could not do with an iPhone over half a year ago but may have changed since then - like attaching a mac formatted drive and reading the files for example? But even if they are now possible, my workflow is now too integrated into Android and I currently dont see any merit of switching back to iPhone.
But this is all just my 2 cents - both systems have their good and bad points and it just depends on what you want to do with the device and how much time you are willing to invest into integrating it into your daily workflow.
A mobile phone should be much more than just a communication tool - you carry it around with you everywhere and it makes sense that it should be used to automate daily tasks and improve workflows - and those workflows are different for all of us which means that full customisation is a prerequisite.
If you have been an iPhone user and have always wondered about the other side then invest sometime in looking at a friends Android device with an open mind - you may be surprised at what you discover - a discovery that has certainly changed my life.

Mac Donalds Japan is the latest to jump on the bandwagon and stick an "i" on the front of their new brand of burgers - the iCon Chicken. I guess without the "i" it wouldn't sound as cool - "Con Chicken."
But the way they wrote "iCon" makes it sound like "I Con" ^^;

Luckily we done everything in 3D. We use ZBrush to modify the oppai part so that the edges that will be cut are behind the oppai. This is then re-printed in 3D where a wax copy of it is made via its silicon mold.

After the earthquake, I heard that food supplies were getting dangerously low in Tokyo. The possibility of a mag 7 Earthquake to hit Tokyo is still 40% (reduced from 70%). Many people are worried and started to panic buy staple foods such as bread, rice and instant noodles. Never thought I would see people line up for batteries, toilet paper and rice in modern day Japan.
Evil dealers were even buying up batteries who tried to sell them for extortionate prices on Amazon Japan before they got reported.
After checking to see if our house was still in one piece, we headed to our local shopping area in Musashikoyama in Meguro Tokyo. At the Family Mart convenience store all bread and cakes were gone.
These photos taken on 2011/03/15 at about 21:00.

Very interesting find that been going around the Internets of late. The above painting is an Ukiyo-e [浮世絵] - Japanese woodblock prints produced between the 17 and 20th centuries. The above painting is said to be produced between 1797 and 1861 (source).
The interesting thing is the tall object in the left of the painting. Experts on Japanese history have stated that no tall constructions existed back at the time - could it be the painters prediction of the Tokyo Sky Tree that folks are speculating about?

For some strange reason, I have a feeling that we will see maid cafes where all the maids are wearing Mirai-chan summer school uniforms ^^;
The uniforms will be on sale later this year online. I'll ask Kamiyama-san about different sizes (should be available in S M L) but for now roughly what size would you be?

A magnitude 7.3 earthquake just hit the East coast of Japan which shook half of the island. My house in Tokyo shook for a very long time spilling drinks.
Currently there is a tsunami alert in the Miyagi region - same area from the 2011.03 earthquake.
Tokyo seems fine but not a lot of info from up North. Will update you as I have more info.

Announced the 3 winners of the 300 USD Giveaway on my Twitter account yesterday - congrats to the JList 300 USD giveaway winners! Winners would have been contacted via email that was used when registering on dannychoo.com.
But! The festive season is not being festive until we giveaway another 300 USD - this time round, 3 people get to choose up to 100 USD worth of *anything* they want from HobbyLink Japan!
This time round however, I'd like to make it more interesting. Its been a while since we've seen your room photos so if you want to be part of the festivities then get along to figure.fm and post the latest photos of your room. 3 rooms will be chosen at random and the owners will be sent their goodies directly by HLJ. Unlike the previous 300 USD giveaway, there probably wont be near to 900 entries so your chances of winning the booty will be higher. Remember that its not about the "best room" - its about sharing.
Folks who don't feel lucky however can still take advantage of HLJ's Our Price system where 99% of their catalog is discounted 10 - 20% to enable you to buy goodies cheaper.
Rules
Post as many photos of your room as you want *in a single post*
If you are a new user then your posts don't show up on the top page immediately until the post is approved - just sit tight.
Please tag your entry 20101221giveaway - anything not tagged cant be considered (because it cant be found!)
A sample post can be found here.
No blurry photos - we want photos which others can decipher with their optical eyes - without the need of an image processor.
Get along to www.hlj.com/ and use the search function or browse from the nav menu to look for what you want. They got Gundams, Figures, Doll stuff and more.
You got until the end of this week. No need to tidy your room. Natural working habitats with a wee bit of mess look great too!
Please do share the latest photos of your room and not repost from before.
I may want to share your photos on Culture Japan or possibly in a book or article for one of the Japanese magazines that I write for. If you don't want your stuff shared then don't enter the giveaway ^o^ Do include the country of residence, name and url that you want to be credited for.
Choose up to 100 USD of goodies and list them together with your room photo like:-
1/48 TIE Fighter
www.hlj.com/product/FNMSW-12 ($38.55)
figma Mirai Suenaga
www.hlj.com/product/MAX06167 ($28.64)
Folks who don't read the rules and just post their wish list in the comments are welcome to do so but will most certainly be ignored ^^;
If you don't use up your 100 USD then you don't get to keep the change.
You can choose more than 100 USD but you pay the difference.
Remember that HLJ pays for shipping.
Winners will be announced on my Facebook.
I think that's about it. Arms and installation is complete - Good Luck!
