런던 대학에서 일본어와 한국어를공부했어요. 과학잡지 "네이처"로 일하고 있었을 때에는 한국어 사용하고 있었습니다만, 요즘은 사용하는 기회가 적고, 한국어는 대부분 잊었어요. 우우우우우우우

사실은, 옛날에 영어, 일본어, 중국어와 한글의 블로그 쓰고 있었다. 시간이 좀더 있으면 매일 한글도 쓰고 싶어요.

お (o) for "onigiri"Following on from the previous hiragana in this Moekana series which was え, today we learn "お" (o) which is pronounced like an abrupt "aw". Today's word is "おにぎり” [お握り] (pronounced "onigiri") which means "rice ball" but very often just called by its Japanese name "onigiri".

Onigiri rice balls often have a filling of vegetables, fish or meat and are wrapped entirely or partially in dried seaweed.

The katakana equivalent of "お" is "オ".

Today's model is Mirai Suenaga illustrated by Ikkyu-san.

ExampleYou can use this in a sentence like:-

onigiri wa pantsu ni ireru no dewa nakute taberu no dayo

おにぎりはパンツに入れるのではなくて食べるのだよ

You are supposed to eat the rice ball and not stick it in your pants

ExerciseWrite out "お” 50 times on the face of your parents or guardian with peanut butter and say "お” 20 times while hanging upside down from the nearest 20th floor window.

Any other word that begins with "お" that's otaku or Japan related that you can think of?

All Hiragana in the Moekana series will be tagged "hiragana"

Japan Mode is a collaboration with TV Asahi, Dentsu, Panasonic and myself - with two of my comrades after a meeting at Panasonic.

Just like Culture Japan, we plan to roll out Japan Mode to the rest of the world.

Japan Mode is currently my 3rd TV show - Culture Japan being the first and Check Time being the second. I dont have a huge editing team yet so Culture Japan Season 3 will be pushed back to 2013 Q2.

Iron Man 3 [アイアンマン3] came out in Japan yesterday and I'd thought I go and see it with a few readers at Kawazaki Lazona. Posted a note on Facebook and folks from America, Malaysia, Germany, India, Netherlands, Canada and Singapore came along. Was great to meet so many new comrades!

As for Iron Man 3 - was pretty awesome packed with a load of scenes that give you the "I wish I was Iron Man" feeling ^^; I do occasionally check up on Ebay but have never been able to find a decent looking suit that you can actually move about it.

I've loved the Iron Man series since the first instalment and have really enjoyed how the suit evolves through each movie. The new suit is awesome but I wont spoilt it for you by saying more as I didn't see any of the new capabilities in any of the trailers. Japanese trailer below.

I generally try to avoid 3D movies after watching the latest Transformers movie - I could not work out if something was transforming or exploding - was so confusing to watch ^^; But the only showing of Iron Man yesterday was the IMAX 3D showing and turned out to be pretty decent.

Bits which I enjoyed from the movie (clips can be seen in the trailer) is when all the poor souls fall out of the plane and when the zillion variations of the Iron Man suit appear on the scene. If you liked the first 2 movies then I dont think the 3rd will disappoint - just make sure you stay until the end of the credits!

Tis been ages since the last giveaway. Anyway, todays giveaway is being sponsored by the good folks at Toylet who have been in the figure business for ages. They carry a huge selection of figures and ship worldwide.

They are currently having a sale and if you check out the prices and figures you will see that it is indeed a sale - but a sale with a difference! Its not the usually crappy cant-get-rid-of figures ^^;

So whats todays giveaway then? Well this is a photo which has been edited to simulate the eye sight of somebody who has been spending too much time looking at the contents of their oppai_archive.zip on their HDD.

What you need to do is guess what the figure box is on my desk. Out of those who choose correctly, 1 person will be chosen at random and Toylet will send it to you directly.

The figure in question is actually in the giveaway sale list at Toylet. All you have to do is guess which one (you got 2 guesses) and paste in the url and the product title in the comments below like:-

Robocop Figma Action Figure

And thats it! I'll chose somebody at random this time next week and announce the winner on my Facebook and Twitter with the non-mosaic version of the photo. I'll then contact you at the email address that you used to signup on this site.

If you dont fancy your chances in the giveaway then you can still pick up a figure or two from the Toylet sale.

If the link in the comments turns out non-clickable then its fine - tis a bug in the regular expressions which I'll fix soon ><

Here we have from the left is Mikoi Sasaki [佐々木未来] (green), Sora Tokui [徳井青空] (yellow) and the very funny Izumi Kitta [橘田 いずみ] (blue) who keeps trying to kidnap Saber. Suzuko Mimori [三森 すずこ] (pink) ran off to a signing session.

Check out their bubbly tune "Ame Agari no Mirai" below.

Back in 2010, I worked with the Max Factory run Indian restaurant Indotei, to develop and bring you Mirai-chan Curry.

2 years later, Indotei and I now bring you Mirai-chan Curry 2 which will be served at tonights Culture Japan Night in Akihabara Tokyo at the Good Smile Cafe.

If you cant be there tonight then be not sad - I plan to run the event on a regular basis now that I have a few extra hands on deck.

As with most 4-koma anime adaptions, there isn't a deep underlying story to Yuyushiki. It simply tells the story of the everyday life of Yuzuko, Yukari and Yui, who are three members of their school's data processing club. They get together and talk about all sorts of things in adorable ways.

Main Characters

Ichii Yui [櫟井唯] played by Tsuda Minami [津田美波]

Nonohara Yuzuko [野々原ゆずこ] played by Ookubo Rumi [大久保瑠美]

Hinata Yukari [日向縁] played by Taneda Risa [種田梨沙]

The official website for the show can be found here.

There isn't a special character page yet, but the website is likely to be updated soon with more information and character descriptions.

This short trailer comes from last year's Comiket. If it was eaten by YouTube, you should be able to find a replacement with this search query.

The opening theme is "Se~no!" [せーのっ!] and will be sung by the voice actors for the three main characters in the show.

Photo of the office taken this morning. Sorry for the lack of updates - 201% of my life is currently being eaten up by the production of Culture Japan Season 2 which started its broadcast yesterday in Japan. In the meantime, you can catch more regular updates on my Twitter, Facebook or Google Plus.

As I'm editing many of the shows myself, I've been working on the iMac of late with Final Cut Pro X. Ever since I gave up on Windows desktops many moons ago, I've stuck to having a laptop as my main machine - have so far gotten through a PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro 15" and my current main machine is a MacBookPro 17". Didn't like being tied down to a desk with a desktop which is why I stuck with a laptop.

Have not used the iMac this much before - its a 2009 second hand model which I've upgraded to 16GB of memory to handle the editing. Tis a much faster machine and have been thinking of using it as my main machine instead of the MacBook Pro. All my data is stored on a portable 1TB USB drive so I wont necessarily be tied down to the desk I guess.

Got healthy mousepads and mice for both machines but I still use Teleport to control the iMac from the MacBook Pro.

What is your machine setup and what do you use for your main machine?

Have decided what to call these products - "Moekana" [萌え仮名] which is made from "Moe" + "Kana" where Kana is the word that describes the syllabic Japanese scripts "Hiragana" and "Katakana."

I only mentioned in the comments but these illustrations will be printed on karuta cards and sold as a pack. Bushiroad have kindly introduced me to the folks who manufacture their cards and should have these them ready by November 11 2011.

Also aim to have these marketed at younger children in Japan who already use karuta to learn hiragana. There's already some Puricure karuta on the market.

These will also be printed on a wall chart with all 47 kana and there will be some merchandise including apparel too. Am currently working on the Kanji charts too.

え (e) for "enpitsu"Following on from the previous hiragana which was う, today we learn "え" (e) which is pronounced like an abrupt "air". Today's word is "えんぴつ” [鉛筆] which means "pencil". The katakana equivalent is "エ".

Today's model is Haruka Suenaga illustrated by Ikkyu-san.

ExampleYou can use this in a sentence like:-

enpitsu de me wo kaku no wa yokunai kamoshirenai

えんぴつで目を掻くのは良くないかもしれない

It's probably not a good idea to scratch your eyes with a pencil

ExerciseWrite out "え” 50 times on the ceiling of your teacher or bosses house with marmite and say "え" 20 times at the counter when ordering some Mac Donalds.

Any other word that begins with "え" thats otaku or Japan related that you can think of?

All Hiragana in the Moegana series will be tagged "hiragana"
