Making figures and their accessories involves making a master sculpt which has been traditionally done by hand using poly putty or other resins which can be molded. The master sculpt is called a "Decoration Master" or "Decomas." Some companies also call them a "Test Shot" too.
The Master is then used to make the molds which are needed for mass production. Up until now, 3D printing technology in the figure world has been used mainly for accessories but recently Good Smile announced that they came up with a Decoration Master made entirely in 3D.

figma Mirai Suenaga comes with a laptop which I've been told is a Windows machine with 64GB worth of memory. Folks who want to run OSX on it need to use an emulator.
Was speaking to the 3D Engineer at Good Smile who gave me these printouts from their 3D printer which are just incredible - it even manages to print out the keyboard! The 3D printers I've seen so far usually print objects which have rough surfaces which you have to sand down but these are sooo smooth!

Computers just seem to freeze up around her, and her cellphone broke for no reason whatsoever.
Even though she hasn't ever experienced life away from home, she knows that she wants to change and experience life as a normal girl, so she decides to go to high school in Tokyo along with her childhood friend, Sagara Miyuki. This is a doll of Mirai Suenaga - a project which I've been working on for the past half year. You can see how she was made in this post - many people thought it was an April fools ^^;
Through the production of Mirai, I will be highlighting the various factories that I use to make her so that not only Japanese creators but you too can use the small factories in Japan to create your own dolls and figures. Dolls are made using a technique called slush casting - the moulds are much cheaper than injection casting and is just about affordable for many individuals.
I will be creating a website which has a directory of factories. The plan is for me to visit these factories one by one and take photos of their facilities - then stick them up on the website.
I also plan to have a directory of producers who speak Japanese & English too so that you can go through them if you dont speak the lingo or cant travel to Japan often. I'm also going to have a list of job openings for folks who are interested in working in one of these small factories.

Asanon upgrades her phone straps from last year - this time round they are even bigger! Japanese cell phone straps are a part of Japanese culture and you can see just how many people use them by taking a trip on the trains.
One of my first encounters with them was when I first visited Japan. Saw a business man in a suit poking about with his cell phone which had a cute anime character hanging from it.
I'm sure I've asked before but how many of you use cell phone straps?
