Walking in the South African bush I came to know and dislike the go-away-bird with its habit of warning of the presence of humans. A long telephoto lens can do the same thing to birds. These things are easily enough understood. Less obvious and utterly confounding is how picking up a camera with a macro lens turns a day of complete calm into, at least, a breezy day. Oh well, there's nothing for it but to reach for a flash.

What caught my attention was the red, moving specks on the chrome yellow of dandelion flowers. Of course they aren't really tweedlebugs; they only exist on Sesame Street. In truth they are juvenile harlequin bugs, true bugs: Dindymus versicolor. Being true bugs they are jawless so whoever chewed this flower it wasn't them. Breeding up as they are now is bad news for autumn fruit. Nothing sucks quite like a tweedlebug! More than likely these little pests are sucking nectar from the florets of the composite flower of a weed both vexing and useful.

Have not had a camera break in a while have been super busy trying not to do anything.....getting good at the game of putting off til tomorrow...

A bright sky illuminates the seeds of the dandelions near Lazy Mountain. This sunrise occurred at 4 am late June.
