The riding car
Daimler built a gasoline engine to a bicycle, because with him at that time no more money was available. The relatively light engine and its small size actually easier to install. His design called the Daimler riding car and left him on 29 August 1885 patent. He had built the first motorcycle with an internal combustion engine.

The Daimler Motor Co was founded by Gottleib Daimler about 1886 in Cannstatt in Germany.
Richard Simms, a young British engineer was much impressed with Daimler engine and acquired the Daimler patents to British empire in 1890. Harry Lawson bought these from Simms in 1896 and he formed The Daimler Motor Syndicate, and so two Daimler motor companies were formed, in Germany and England, each being totally independent of each other. The English company built the first Daimler in Coventry in 1897. The company built Daimlers at Coventry until about the 1970s, and today just exists in name badge form.

In 1926, AEC and Daimler set up a new venture called Associated Daimler Company to build commercial chassis with a choice of Daimler sleeve valve or AEC poppet valve engines. The association was not a very happy one, so in 1926 they agreed to separate with Daimler retaining the ADC name.
