Other than not having enough time to sew these days, I guess my work space was not fully optimised for sewing as well, a lot of my things are all stacked together (still) and everytime I want to get a fabric I have to move ALL the containers, and before I cook I have to move everything back in =_=; Still got a lot to organise before I can sew properly but I am quite happy with how it looks so far :)

we may move things around again eventually I suppose, initially we had the shelf and desk the opposite positions :P

Thanks to Luckno3 and his wonderful corgi Wel :-)

P.S.: As of Dec 21, 2007, only 72 pictures in Flickr are tagged with the "24-70mm f/2.8G" and 36 of them happen to be mine!

NOTE: (Dec 22, 9:26am PST) Replaced the photo I had first posted (that contained post-processing) with the original uncorrected shot that shows the light fall-off in the corners. Using LR and the setting the vignetting slider to +52, eliminated the problem. There is no discernable light fall-off on the f/4.0 image (I didn't take any pictures between 2.8 and 4.0 so I'm not sure where the light fall-off problem goes away).

My current Blythe Family, I'm really happy with all of them! There's a chance Freckles and Bolly might go off to be customised at some point... and I'm going to get Peppers a Neemo body... but I'm happy with them all for now.

My current Project. I am taking an old coffee table that has had the top laminet ripped off (by yours truely) and am modgepodgeing old random photographs I had in a box onto the top. In the end it will look like photographs are spread across the table, but will be covered in gloss, so they wont be damaged!

May 29, 2023 - "The skyline of downtown Columbus has been transformed with this monumental artwork by internationally recognized sculptor Janet Echelman. "Current" is a stunning, ephemeral, sky-high sculpture that will inspire wonder and imagination in all who see it. As it dances gracefully in the wind, this awe-inspiring work of art will become an emblem of Columbus’ culture and innovation.

The design and installation of "Current" was funded by Jeff Edwards. He has graciously donated the work to the Museum. We will oversee the care and maintenance of the sculpture as part of our permanent collection." Previous description of "Current" from a Facebook post by the Columbus Museum of Art.

Construction of the current castle started around 1325. This served to replace an older castle (known as 't Oude Huys ), which stood a few hundred meters west of the present castle, and whose excavations in 1981 have revealed the foundations of a stone keep and objects.

In the twelfth century, the area around Helmond was part of the possessions of the van Hornes. The current castle was initially owned by the van Berlaer family. In 1433 this family was succeeded by the van Cortenbach family. In 1683 the castle passed into the hands of the Arberg family by marriage. The mint master Carel Frederik Wesselman bought the manor with the castle Helmond in 1781.

In 1549 a fierce fire raged in the castle, in which especially the west wing and the roofs of the building were damaged. Complete destruction has certainly not taken place. Evidence of this was found in later renovations in the 20th century .

In 1921, the ownership of the castle was transferred to the municipality of Helmond by the widow of the last lord of the castle Carel Frederik Wesselman van Helmond, jkvr. Anna Maria de Jonge van Zwijnsbergen and her two daughters, on the condition that the castle was only used for the municipal administration. or intended for other public use. After a thorough renovation, the castle was taken into use as a town hall from 1923. The space became too small in the 1970s. A new town hall was put into use. Of the municipal functions, two wedding halls and the council chamber remained in use. In 2001 the council chamber moved to a new location in nearby Boscotondo . Museum Helmond has been in the castle since 1982.

The current castle was designed as a square water castle with a round tower at each corner and no central residential tower or keep, very similar in ground plan to similar castles such as Muiden Castle, Radboud Castle, or Ammersoyen Castle. These square castles turned out to have better defensive qualities than older round castles. The ground plan of the castle measures approximately 35 X 35 meters. The diameter of the corner towers is approximately 8 meters. The entrance is on the north side through a gatehouse that is almost integrated with the adjacent buildings.

The castle used to have a double ring of moats, only the moat around the building itself remains. The castle also included some outbuildings and entrance gates. Apart from two square towers and one entrance gate, these have to make way for the construction of the Kasteel-Traverse (a bridge crossing straight through the center of Helmond). Over the centuries, the building was adapted several times to the then current use. During the major renovation in 1923, a system of corridors was built in front of the original rooms. The cellar vaults have remained virtually authentic. Almost nothing remains of the original interior. A few authentic fireplaces can still be seen.

Rose :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

About Roses

The birthplace of the cultivated Rose was probably Northern Persia (Current IRAN), on the Caspian, or Faristan on the Gulf of Persia.

Historically, the oldest Rose fossils have been found in Colorado, dating back to more than 35 million years ago.

Roses were considered the most sacred flowers in ancient Egypt and were used as offerings for the Goddess Isis. Roses have also been found in Egyptian tombs, where they were formed into funerary wreaths.

Confucius, 551 BC to 479 BC, reported that the Imperial Chinese library had many books on Roses.

Ancient Sumerians of Mesopotamia (in the Tigris-Euphrates River Valley) mentioned Roses in a cuneiform tablet (a system of writing) written in approximately 2860 BC.

The English were already cultivating and hybridizing Roses in the 15th Century when the English War of Roses took place. The winner of the war, Tudor Henry VII, created the Rose of England (Tudor Rose) by crossbreeding other Roses.

While no Black Rose yet exists, there are some of such a deep Red color as to suggest Black.

Roses are omnipresent and grown over all parts of the globe.

The Netherlands is the world's leading exporter of Roses.

The Netherlands, with about 8000 hectares of land under Rose cultivation, is the global leader in Rose cultivation. 54 per cent (about 5000 hectares) of the cultivated land in Ecuador is under Rose cultivation!! Zambia, a small nation, had 80 per cent of its cultivated land under Roses.

Classification of Roses

Broadly, Roses are divided into three classes-

Species Roses

Species Roses are often called Wild Species Roses. Species Roses often have relatively simple, 5-petaled flowers followed by very colorful hips that last well into the winter, providing food for birds and winter color.

The most popular Rose species for sale today is Rosa rugosa owing to its superior hardiness, disease resistance, and extremely easy maintenance. Species roses are widely hybridized. Wild Species Roses include many different varieties. Wild Species Roses usually bloom once in the summer.

Old Garden Roses

Old Garden Roses have a delicate beauty and wonderful perfume, not often found in modern hybrid tea roses. Old Garden Roses are a diverse group from the those with a wonderful fragrance and great winter hardiness to the tender and lovely tea roses, which are best suited for warm climates.

Old Garden Roses comprise a multifaceted group that in general are easy to grow, disease-resistant and winter-hardy. Old Garden Roses grow in several shrub and vine sizes. Although colors do vary, this class of Roses are usually white or pastel in color. These "antique Roses" are generally preferred for lawns and home gardens. Several groupings of Roses classified as Old Garden Roses are China Roses, Tea Roses, Moss Roses, Damask Roses, Bourbon Roses, etc.

Modern Roses

Old Garden Roses are the predecessors of Modern Roses. Any Rose identified after 1867, is considered a Modern Rose. This group of Roses are very popular. The Modern Rose is the result of crossbreeding the hybrid tea with the polyanthus (a variety of primrose).

Christmas Decorations -

This year my family & friends are getting the 1st of The 3 Wise Men - the King with the Gold ...

I have to make twice this number of Kings !!

So on my current obsession with tato boxes I realized I need a box to keep my boxes. So I folded a 12-fold Boxification from a 22" square of wrapping paper. The closure was a huge pain, because the wrapping paper is very floppy and refuses to hold a shape.
