Downtown Flushing is the largest urban center in Queens, and is home to the second largest Chinatown in New York City. When, in the 1970s, housing prices plummeted, Korean and Chinese immigrants began to settle in Flushing. Today the community is composed mainly of Chinese from Mainland China, with Taiwanese, Koreans, South Asian, Indians, and Pakistanis, as well as Colombians, Puerto Ricans, and Dominicans. Many of Flushing’s Taiwanese came to the neighborhood because they did not identify with Manhattan’s Chinatown, which is dominated by Cantonese culture. Once the Taiwanese flight to Flushing began, other Chinese followed, and an immigrant enclave emerged, which now includes many from the Chinese mainland.

Lloyd Cole is currently on a solo tour of the UK, in advance of a three night set of shows in Dublin where he will record his first live album.
I hopped a Ryanair flight and caught him at Stirling's Tolbooth, which only seats 165. That means there were more people on my flight than in the audience.
Heh.
The songs were beautiful, as they always are, and the between song banter was suitably wry and self-deprecating.
To the right of the frame you can see Lloyd's lyric book, and a bowl of ice that he apparently uses to numb his fingers after every few songs. Seemed to need it far less this time than when I saw him in Gothenburg a few years back.
Standout tracks this time around were "Impossible Girl" and "Butterfly".

My current Project. I am taking an old coffee table that has had the top laminet ripped off (by yours truely) and am modgepodgeing old random photographs I had in a box onto the top. In the end it will look like photographs are spread across the table, but will be covered in gloss, so they wont be damaged!

Curio's Gala Phoenix is currently in the midst of legal issues which have resulted in her content being removed from the grid, pending the outcome of her legal battle. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) process in Second Life requires that when there is legal action taken against your content, Linden Lab will remove it from the grid until a ruling is made. Gala's fellow content creators have come together to host a fundraiser to help with the enormous amount of legal fees she will have to bare in order to fight her case.
The fundraiser will be held from 9th-15th July, with a blogger preview on 8th July.
Confirmed participants so far are: Truth, League, GoS, Belleza, Glam Affair, Adam and Eve, SLink, One Bad Pixel, Exile, HoD, Laqroki, Aura, Bare Rose, SAKIDE, Zibska, Al Vulo and many others who will offer their items as either 50% or 100% donations.
The event is not only to help Gala Phoenix, but to also take a stand for the community of content creators, for many of whom SL is their main source of income. This could happen to any one of us, and it's necessary that we stand up and fight back to ensure that it doesn't.

May 29, 2023 - "The skyline of downtown Columbus has been transformed with this monumental artwork by internationally recognized sculptor Janet Echelman. "Current" is a stunning, ephemeral, sky-high sculpture that will inspire wonder and imagination in all who see it. As it dances gracefully in the wind, this awe-inspiring work of art will become an emblem of Columbus’ culture and innovation.
The design and installation of "Current" was funded by Jeff Edwards. He has graciously donated the work to the Museum. Distribution: Gulf of Alaska to San Diego.
Habitat: Mostly subtidal, or sometimes intertidal, at depths of 2–150 m.
Appearance: Up to 6 cm in length. Convex valves with ribs radiating from umbo (prominence near the hinge) to ventral edge, and covered with prominent spines or ruffles. Usually has sponges encrusting on its surface.
Diet: Filter feeds about 4 liters of water per gram per hour, using their ctenidia (or gills) to collect microscopic food and oxygen.
Mortality/Longevity: This scallop lives about 6 years (at least in Southern British Columbia.) A variety of sea stars prey on this mollusk. Also, is parasitized by Odostomia columbiana, the clam sucker snail, so called because it uses its eversible proboscis to suck body juices from its host.
Remarks: Escapes predators by swimming, forcing water out as a jet near the bivalve’s hinge. Encrusting sponge and scallop are in a mutualistic relationship. The sponge repels sea star predators, possibly by chemical secretions; the scallop’s movement may reduce sediment accumulation on sponges. Has several hundred eyes at edge of mantle; these detect light and dark, but do not form images.
