Phillipson currently has an art installation at Gloucester Road tube station in London – My Name Is Lettie Eggsyrub – that uses giant cartoony eggs to question our rapacious consumption. The pop-art splodges of orange and white may look like fun, but they are accompanied by films in which eggs are being cracked, whisked and slapped on sandwiches. “There are all these forms of torture we subject eggs to and I wanted to remind people that these are potential lives,” says Phillipson, who was raised as a vegetarian and became vegan 15 years ago. “Before it was fashionable and when it was pretty hard and widely mocked,” she says.
Several notable events have marked the long history of the Fleetwood to Knott End ferry service and its vessels, including the current Wyre Rose:
In 1905, the ferry set a record when about 10,200 passengers used the service in a single day, reflecting its popularity among locals and holidaymakers.
Livestock crossings were a common sight in earlier decades. Farmers frequently transported animals such as pigs, sheep, cows, and even horses. Horses would often swim alongside the ferry, secured by ropes, while other livestock and even poultry or ferrets were brought directly onboard.
Weather-related incidents and challenging crossings have shaped the ferry’s reputation for adventure. In the mid-20th century, it was not unusual for the boat to be buffeted by storms. Councillor Jean Mutch recalls that during the 1950s, the ferryboat Wyresdale once flipped onto its side in rough conditions.
Periods of service suspension occurred due to siltation in the river or insufficient funds for maintaining navigable channels, notably detailed in the late 1960s report on required dredging and financial losses.
The ferry’s role as a social hub brought people together, with some couples attributing meeting each other to regular commutes aboard the boat as schoolchildren in the 1940s and 1950s.
The ferry's operation has frequently faced financial uncertainty and campaign efforts to sustain its future, with a significant recent push in 2025 to preserve the service as its contract nears expiry in 2026.
These events illustrate the ferry’s colorful legacy, its central role in local life, and the adventures and challenges experienced both by passengers and operators.

The Murph is a grueling test of physical and mental endurance that honors the sacrifice and service of the fallen. Margaret Bourke-White took this picture in 1937 after the Louisville flood. People (mostly black people) were lined up to get free bread, and behind them was a billboard saying that America has the world's highest standard of living. Then where are we heading? Apparently everyone in London is sick. Everyone! So, I got myself some electric pink effervescent Vitamin C tablets in the hopes that it will help stave off the ubiquitous cold.

This is one of my favourite events of the year.
It is claimed that a record 60,000 people turned out for the LGBTI+ Dublin Pride Parade on Saturday, about double the previous year’s numbers. To be honest it appeared to be bigger than this years Saint Patrick's Day Parade and it was a lot more fun.
Unfortunately I met one very nasty person who took great exception to the parade and the Indian Hippy in charge of the country.
This year I had more-or-less decided not to photograph this event because of the current heatwave. Both myself and my camera have suffered badly from overheating over the last ten days so I have decided to remain indoors as much as possible.
However when I discovered that it passed very close to my apartment I decided that it might be a good idea to go along and take a few photographs.

The current cathedral is built on the site of at least two previous structures dedicated to Finbarr of Cork. The first dated from the 7th century, with works continuing through the 12th century. This building was damaged during the Siege of Cork (1690), and a new structure was built in 1735 - though elements of the earlier spire were retained.
This structure remained until the 1860s, when a competition for the building of a new larger cathedral was held 1862. In February 1863, the designs of the architect William Burges was declared the winner of the competition to build a new cathedral of St Fin Barre. His diary records his reaction - "Got Cork!" - whilst the cathedral accounts record the payment of the winning prize sum of £100. Building work took seven years before the first service was held in the cathedral in 1870. Building, carving and decoration continued into the 20th century, long after Burges's death in 1881.
The style of the building is Early French, Burges's favoured period and a style he continued to favour throughout his life, choosing it for his own home, The Tower House, in Kensington. The stipulated price for construction was to be £15,000, a sum vastly exceeded. The total cost came to significantly over £100,000. Burges was "unconcerned" (his own words) in his letter of January 1877 to the Bishop of Cork: "(In the future) the whole affair will be on its trial and, the elements of time and cost being forgotten, the result only will be looked at. The great questions will then be, first, is this work beautiful and, secondly, have those to whom it was entrusted, done it with all their heart and all their ability."
Burges oversaw all aspects of the design, including the architecture of the building, the statuary, the stained glass and the internal decoration. The result is "undoubtedly Burges's greatest work in ecclesiastical architecture".
Thousands of festival participants line the banks of the Ping River in Chiang Mai, Thailand during the Loy Krathong festival. Candles and offerings of coins are placed on banana stalk rafts and released into the river to bring good luck for the coming year. The bamboo platforms built into the river are gathering points for hundreds of Buddhists who wish to release their Krathong rafts, the centerpiece of the Loy Krathong celebration.
