The term “Renaissance” means “rebirth” and it was an important time of social and cultural change. The Renaissance itself, between the early 17th to late 19th century, spread throughout Europe like wildfire. New continents were discovered and along with them came the expansion of trade, increase in wealth and access to beautiful and rare materials and gemstones.

It was the age of patronage of wealthy noblemen and powerful families to arts, music, philosophy, sciences, poetry and architecture.

To show off their wealth, items of jewellery were especially prized; ornate and highly decorated with the rarest of gemstones. Many pieces featured large stones, with other jewels set around them. Some of the wealthy even wore rings set with gems on all five fingers.

The Renaissance Cuff is emblematic of the jewels of the era. A central sparkling crystal is surrounded by a ring of smaller glittering firepolished beads. The bracelet strap features more gem-like stones and luscious pearls woven into a complex design.

The flexible Prismatic and Cubic right angle weave is the mainstay of the cuff. This fine example of jewels of the Renaissance wraps itself around your wrist bringing you back to the bygone era of power, intrigue, mystery and jewels.

“Shou”

The character that denotes longevity in Chinese.

It is about having good health and living a long life.

The Chinese longevity symbol is the most revered among the five good fortune symbols -

Good Luck, Prosperity, Longevity, Happiness, Wealth

The “Shou” character has been stylized by many. One of the most instantly recognizable image of this character is the round “Shou” with straight lines reflecting the strokes of the character. It is this version that the Cuff Of Longevity uses as a design element. To the Chinese, it is very auspicious to have this symbol on one self. To the non-Chinese, it is immediately recognizable as something intrinsically Oriental while being very attractive as a design element.

Weave yourself a beautiful and elegant cuff using this age old symbol of longevity. Wear it on your wrist to benefit from the fortune of longevity.

For the record, "Big Trouble" was quite possibly the best movie ever, and also the most accurate description of the real city of Miami, and more specifically, Coconut Grove and its' counter-culture existence. It was originally a book written by Dave Barry, which was of course by far superior to the movie, however, the movie was stunningly well done. Although if you have no connections to Miami and Coconut Grove, you just wouldn't understand... But go watch/read it anyway. It'll expand your mind. And probably keep you out of South Floria entirely. That's okay. "They can keep it."

Some more favorite quotes:

From the esteemed Stanley Tucci:

"Nina, this is my house, you work for me, and I want to suck your toes."

And other random tidbits:

Johnny Knoxville: "I think I hear onna them Silent Alarms"

And pretty much everyone in the film:

"Was That A Goat?"

Now you KNOW you all want to run out and see it...

This shot was taken after the portrait was made. The question is, "Who's the criminal?" David Coverdale was a prince to deal with and went along with everything with an incredible sense of humour. Oh, by the way, shorts and long socks were normal attire in Auckland's hot and humid weather in summer.

Previously unpublished, this shot was sent to Darker than Blue magazine editor, Simon Robinson. last year along with the portrait I shot of David. I sent it along as a joke "bonus" but it obviously caught his fancy and became the feature shot for the article. The portrait appears over the page in the body of the article.

Darker than Blue is a high-quality, glossy magazine devoted to the group, Deep Purple. In its 59th edition since 1975, it is an encyclopedic examination of the various characters and incidents that mark Deep Purple's past, present and future.

The Tudor period was one the most exciting in British history. It gave England two of the strongest monarchs to ever sit on the English throne – the infamous Henry VIII and his daughter Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen.

The classic and opulent style of the Tudor dynasty has influenced jewellery for generations. They personify the axiom that More is More. Tudor jewellery is not for the faint of heart. It is meant to make a statement -dramatic, elegant, bold, sensual and romantic. Each piece is opulent, embellished and luxurious with luscious gems and precious metals.

The Tudor Cuff exemplifies this era of jewellery. Czech shaped beads are woven and embellished with sparkling firepolished and seed beads. The cuff is made even more luxurious with the addition of dangling tassels. Definitely a piece of jewellery meant to be noticed.

Beautiful Czech 2-hole carrier beads look just like little puffy pillows. A slender strip of peyote band encircles the carrier bead horizontally. This leaves the ends of the carrier bead bare showing off the beauty of the Czech glass carrier bead. The strip is then embellished with twinkling crystals to bejewel the carrier bead. A series of embellished carrier beads are connected with sparkling fire polished beads and finished with herringbone straps on each end. A quick project for almost instant gratification.
