We were able to pick and eat the mulberries from this tree, which were delicious.
Uzbekistan is a country with a long history among the world's developed silk industry. Mulberry silkworm seeds entered Central Asia through the Khotan province in the middle of the 4th century, and have become one of the main occupations of the population until now. Uzbek silk production accounts for less than 5 percent of the world total, and is dwarfed by China’s. But proportionately it’s the world’s highest - almost a kilogram (two pounds) per head of a population of 29 million.
The Uzbek silk business dates back centuries to the Silk Road that ran through this Central Asian country.
The secret to uzbek silk cultivaion is to have both silkworms and mulberry trees, preferably the white mulberry, which is the only food the silkworms, or more accurately, caterpillars, will eat. They are essentially mulberry leaf eating machines. When the caterpillars are fully grown they produce a cocoon by extruding silk from their bodies.

These trees were just outside Zims Hot Springs in New Meadows. They looked like they had lots of character. I wanted to get closer, but I kept sinking further and further into the snow each step I took, so I decided this would do.

4 images blended in photomatix tone mapped with details enhancer. Noise reduced in CS5 with imagenomic, and additional post processing with topaz adjust.
Taken at the Victoria & Albert Museum using a Nikon D7000 and either the Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 or the Nikon 10-24mm.
Shot in Manual Mode using ISO of 1600 to 6400 to keep the shutter speed above 1/60. Most of the shots still had to have their exposure increased as they were taken under exposed.
Processing wise all are single RAW files coverted into 3 Tiffs of -1ev, 0ev, +1ev (generally) then passed through Photomatix and finished in Lightroom 3. The odd image was cleaned a bit in Photoshop CS5 as the Spot Healing Tool and Clone Stamp are easier to use than in Lightroom 3. The border and watermark created in CS5.
Any comments will be appreciated..

Abbotsbury Swannery is the only place in the world where you are able to walk through the heart of a colony of nesting Mute Swans. A visit to this beautiful place is considered to be one of the best things to do in Dorset.
The Swannery was established by Benedictine Monks who built a monastery at Abbotsbury during the 1040s. The monks farmed the swans to produce food for their lavish Dorset banquets. St Peter’s monastery was destroyed in 1539, during the dissolution. Some of the ruins are still visible around St Nicolas’ Church in the village. Since that time, the Swannery has been under the stewardship of the Ilchester Estates.

This rusty doorway at the Wool Warehouse in Evans Bay Wellington, New Zealand caught my eye. I captured it with my Nikon D3100 DSLR camera in RAW format and post processed it with Adobe Photoshop CS5. I made the composition symetrical and square. Symmetry is just pleasing to the eye. I was inspired by H.R. Giger's Passage series of works. Where do you think this doorway leads to...?
They have great 100% wool ugg boots at the Wool Warehouse. I purchased a set for my daughter. No more cold feet this winter for her.
I havent spent much time on flickr the past few weeks, I got sick about four weeks back and have been dealing with my illness everyday. I have a blood clot in my left leg, it in the superficial vein but its about 10" long. I can tell you now its been horrible pain at times, Ive been shot in the left shoulder by a shotgun and I dont remember it hurting as much as this has. On top of the painful clot Ive had 30 to 40 shots in my stomach to thin my blood so that the clot will disolve, for the past few weeks Ive had two shot a day and I have about three weeks of shots left to take. My stomach is so bruised and tender, I dont which hurts more now my stomach or my leg. Between going to work and then the doctors everyday and the fatigue I get from the shots I havent had much energy left for anything else. Ive made it out a few times here and there to snap some photos and Im still learning and enjoying CS5 as much as I can. Im sorry I havent spent much time on here keeping up with every one, but as soon as I get to feeling better I will catch up. I hope to start uploading a few of the images I took recently and catching up little bits here and there.
I hope everyone enjoys, thanks for looking.
The Chantry Chapel of St James was built in 1126 by Roger de Newburgh, 2nd Norman Earl of Warwick. In the late 14th century it was rebuilt by the 12th Earl of Warwick. He granted the benefice of the Chapel to the Guild of St George, a guild created on 20 April 1383 under licence from King Richard II. The Guild of St George was later joined there by the Guild of the Blessed Virgin, which had been based at the Collegiate Church of St Mary, forming the United Guilds of Warwick. Living quarters and reception, meeting, and dining halls were added to the chapel as a consequence. The Guildhall was built in 1450 by the 16th Earl of Warwick.
The United Guilds were dispersed by King Henry VIII in 1546. However, their property had already been transferred to the Burgesses of Warwick by Thomas Oken, Master of the Guilds. The 1st Earl of Leicester acquired the buildings in 1571, founding therein a hospital for aged or injured soldiers and their wives, under royal charter from Queen Elizabeth I, run by 12 resident "Brethren" (originally soldiers) under the charge of a "Master", and funded from the income of various estates. This lasted until 1950.
In 1956 the Corporation of the Master and Brethren of the Hospital was abolished by Act of Parliament, having operated under the original charter for nearly 400 years, and replaced with a board of Governors. On 3 November 1966 a restored Hospital with modernised quarters was opened by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and today the Hospital is run by the Master, a retired officer of the Armed Forces. Eight ex-servicemen and their wives are provided with flats in return for their services. The Hospital is funded by visitor income, the original estates having been sold over the years.

The hike on this island is awesome, takes about 3 hours from one end to the other, but well worth the time and effort, best time to go is probably during winter. This photograph was taken in July, where I met locals warning me of hiking at this time of the year. Indeed, during the few hours of some serious perspiration, I saw no more than a handful of hikers, one of them being my partner. Love it!
Don't do many portraits, so like the practise.
