Mariners have been enchanted by sea creatures since time began, and these four sea creatures will enchant you.
This series of -- so far -- four sea creatures is the "Whee!" series (a play on the word "wee").
I work first with a nib pen dipped in India ink, and then illuminate my drawings with glowing watercolors. These paintings measure 2" x 3" each.

Mythological Creatures
Drawing & Painting for 6 year olds, Session II
In preparation for this multi-week project, the students explored mythology. We discussed the more common-known mythological creatures such as dragons, unicorns and mermaids, but also delved into the tales of Greek mythology and learned about Centaurs, the Sirens (three dangerous “bird women”), and Medusa.
The students were then challenged to invent their own mythological creatures, taking different body parts and characteristics of different known animals and combining them with others. Each body part was first drawn and then painted using tempera paint on separate pieces of paper. The color wheel was studied and used as a guide for mixing colors, as the only paints used for this project were the primary colors: red, yellow, and blue and white.
Once the paint dried, the students cut out each body part and affixed them in their proper places using brass bins so that the arms, legs, tails and heads could move freely. As a finishing touch, gold paint markers were used to add extra embellishments. The results are these colorful, imaginative creatures you see in front of you!

For the creature contest. I used the parts mostly from my red Canti (because that was pretty much all I had with me).
The Nanecin are relatively unknown to those who do not travel the far reaches of space. They are a very docile and affectionate creature that tends to act much like a Terran Canine.
They have odd spikes protruding from around their mouth, that most people find rather odd. But these spikes or "teeth" serve a very vital role in the Nanecin's survival. They act as a defense mechanism as well as helping them gather food.
They are physically rather slow, moving just faster then a Earth turtle, but mentally they are about as intelligent as Dolphins.

We're having a holiday Creature Feature at Jingle Belles ... we're creating cards with a living creature on it:including reindeer, penguins, polar bears, moose, people, angels, elves... or, of course the most obvious Christmas-card presence ... Monstahs.
I used a tiny little holiday owl, a penguin and a reindeer (all from Hero Arts Merry Christams Ink 'N Stamp) on my Retro Sketch layout ... and I threw in a snowman for good measure.
Papers are from Echo Park's Holly Jolly Christmas with some teal twine & foam tape for dimension.
I'm also joining the October Holiday Card Challenge at Hero Arts.

My book arrived this afternoon. I ordered the kit so I could actually have socks to start with. I only wear white socks, always have. I'm boring like that.
I don't know where to buy socks like these, these are pretty sweet. Pretty long socks. There's also a red pair in the box still for tomorrow's creature!
So far, no name. I forget which one this is, maybe Owelsey I think.
The ribbon at the top doesn't lay flat like the one in the book does. Not sure where I stitched wrong. Apparently it needs to be flat across oops! I restitched and it's a bit better but still lumpy.
But do you see!? I gave him lips! That was fun, I had never sculpted with needle and thread before like that. Kind of hard keeping grip on the doll and the needle but the end result is pretty nifty.
I highly recommend this book.

Vaccination had become quite widespread in France and England by the beginning of the 19th century and was energetically attacked by fearmongers in satirical pamphlets showing victims acquiring vaccine-host-animal qualities, for instance.

All the creatures left already and I wanted someone to sit on my hand so here he is the new little creature.
