Here is a sample of the stunning Chelsea, shot specifically for this contest. Sue's 'can do' personality has given me the confidence to trust in myself enough to push forward with what I find fulfilling. I can't express the joy I feel when I see my clients moved to tears. That is a magical power if I've ever seen one! I went to WPPI-U Vegas recently, specifically to see Sue. I also watched the rebroadcast of Sue's first course at cL and tuned in for all five days at creativeLIVE both of which were brilliant. I'm thoroughly versed in Sue-ese at this point! This was the FIRST course I actually purchased, despite being glued to my seat and taking copious notes throughout--I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to own such a valuable resource. I can already tell it's going to pay off exponentially. Thank you for inspiring me step it up and incorporate all of the skills I've been holding in my back pocket and so many new tips and techniques that have refined what I've learned! -Loni

" MEMORY "
It's a cold, rainy October day out there today which means this skinny little photographer stays indoors!
With a hunger for photography, bordem and poor weather conditions, my mind decided to wander and create. With halloween upon us I was thinking in surrealist/dark/scary/fake/weird kinds of ways. I honestly have no idea where this idea came from it was just there. I saw the lighting, the background I wanted, the concept even the editing style I wanted in the end result.
I've started to see more of the picture in my mind before I actually start setting up to create it. I believe this kind of thinking is all because of Professional Fashion Photographer Lara Jade. 3 days Lara was on CreativeLive teaching her ways, a session I couldn't miss. After watching her create and make images I learned quite a bit and decided to approach my photography a little differently. Commercial/Fashion would be a dream world for me. - Shutter Click

This is my entry for the "Breaking the Rules" Contest by CreativeLive.
Rule(s) Broken:
Rule of Thirds, camera not level, eyes in shadow, no catchlights in the eyes
My attempt with natural light.
Window to the right, reflector and small window on left.
Creative LIVE submission.
This is Ricky, Lucy and Chewy. They were waiting outside the pharmacy for someone and looked so happy to be sitting in the setting sun, I had to ask them for a portrait.
This is the second day of homework from the Lighten Up And Shoot seminar at CreativeLIVE.
I only was able to catch about 3-4 hours of Don's presentation this time, but still enjoyed it. Full of gems as always, but "start with the light as close as possible and move it back" was a great reminder.
Today I received an email from CreativeLive and just LOVED the photo in it, so I decided to give it a try.

I'm watching Creative Live (which is in Seattle) here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, chatting with people around the globe, and learning all about Table Top Product Photography, taught by Don Gianatti, the Maestro of Light!
I forgot to add my ipad to the pic. I'm not using it too much, because too much stuff coming in makes the feed jerky.
This is my beautiful friend, Rachael. Rachael had her third baby three weeks ago. When I heard about this contest, I immediately thought of her. Sue Bryce took a moment to discuss people (especially moms) who don't like to be photographed because of different insecurities. Sue's challenge was, "why weight?" She emphasized the importance of capturing life now. I thought of my friend, Rachael, because she is a beautiful woman who always puts her three sons (!) in front of her own vanity. This was an awesome experience because I got to see her get a makeover & pampered on her typical three-four hours of sleep. It was a great to see a woman get the special treatment when she spends so much of her time serving others. I hope she will look back on the pictures from our shoot & remember the beautiful mother she has been to these three precious sons.
Thank you Sue Bryce, for giving me an excuse to bless my friend!

These are from a photoshoot this weekend that Dan & I did. We did some family shots and a mother & daughter session. Mostly natural window light and using a reflector.
A bit of a different style than we normally do. We learned alot from CreativeLive's Online workshop with Sue Bryce.

Photo taken for contest during Don Giannatti's Creative Live Tabletop Photography course. Don inspired me to try again to find some way to use these fragments of my old patio table. I just love them, but couldn't get the picture in my head to arrive in my camera. My aha moment is to keep at it and try different things. Boy, one thing for sure, I now know how hard this is! At one point a glass sculpture from a nearby window shelf showed up in the best shot I had to that point, so back to the drawing board! :) Putting what I've been learning into use is gonna take some real practice, but I can't wait! Thanks Don and CreativeLive!

This was taken in between breaks at the CreativeLive broadcast of Master Your Craft with Brooke Shaden. I made quick friends with the model, Jane Love and we ran off for a few impromptu photo opts. She is so talented and I look forward to working with her in the near future to finish my portfolio out. Read below for the inspiration on this piece.
-In this image I was inspired by the concept that while we ‘dance’ through life continually trying to get to the ‘next thing’ in it, how often are we pulled back by the forces of our past? How many times have you tried to pull yourself forward only to be torn between the present and the past? I know I have and for me, this image symbolizes those exact feelings of the internal struggle that I’m sure we all face at some point in our lives, at some crossroads where we must decide to either let the past hold us back, or to detach ourselves from it and dance freely into the future and reach for our dreams and goals. I hope you like it, God Bless--Excerpt taken from my blog post on www.inspirationjourney.org
Don, Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful knowledge!
On the first day my A-Ha moment came when you mentioned it is not MORE light that is needed, it is the understanding of what is reflected BY the light that is the key to a successful image.
I also loved seeing all of the Do it yourself items that can work for product photography.
The subject is a wrapper for a bon-bon. I liked the lines and thought about Don mentioning how as photographers it is our job to make a simple subject look interesting. The light source is a large double window that is softened by a 5 in 1 diffuser disc attached to the kitchen table and the hanging overhead light by two clamps. I have a white card on either side of the wrapper to reflect the light back onto the wrapper from the front. The wrapper is placed on a white shiny plastic tray which created the mirror like reflection. Only a few adjustment were done in photoshop to the lighting levels to create the final image.
Shot with a Nikon D5000 camera with a 105mm macro lens.
Thank you Don and creative Live for presenting this incredible online workshop!!
