Not only did I use Simona's hair and makeup tips and Sue's posing techniques during this shoot, but I was also able to use some really great Photoshop tips from Sue in order to really make my friend shine in this photo. Thank you, CreativeLIVE!!

I honestly thought I would never jump on the TTV train (I may have even missed that train all together), but watching Jeremy Cowart on creativelive.com today totally inspired me to give it a go. It's a bit "darker" than my normal work, but I kinda dig it for something different.

Since she is a senior I guess I better get going on Sr. picks. Advantage - we get to do them all year. Trying to go lighter on processing ala Voclain on CreativeLive. Einstein in Apollo 50" CR, Einstein in umbrella next to camera for fill. AB800 in gridded BD on hair from behind. Flash and gel on background from fabric store. White reflector either underneath or CL.

This was taken in between breaks at the CreativeLive broadcast of Master Your Craft with Brooke Shaden. I made quick friends with the model, Jane Love and we ran off for a few impromptu photo opts. She is so talented and I look forward to working with her in the near future to finish my portfolio out. Read below for the inspiration on this piece.
-In this image I was inspired by the concept that while we ‘dance’ through life continually trying to get to the ‘next thing’ in it, how often are we pulled back by the forces of our past? How many times have you tried to pull yourself forward only to be torn between the present and the past? I know I have and for me, this image symbolizes those exact feelings of the internal struggle that I’m sure we all face at some point in our lives, at some crossroads where we must decide to either let the past hold us back, or to detach ourselves from it and dance freely into the future and reach for our dreams and goals. August 16th - Monday.
As you all know, my best friend was here, visiting for about two weeks. She is gone now. But she is the reason why I haven't been posting for a while, because I needed to spend that time with her.
My sister, Anna [right] & my best friend, Lynn [middle] & I have been bestest of best friends, ever forever! i really mean it. i mean, she has known me as I was a little baby.
i love this girl to death. seriously. she is the greatest friend to have, she understands everything about me, when we talk to each other and have something to say, we already know what the other person is thinking.
anyway. yes. I love her! <3
& am sooooo proud of her! She just got into the nursing program!! She has worked so hard for it, so I am so happy for her!! :)
Anyway that is the story, I dont want to say too much, cuz then you guys wont ever read my descriptions ever again... but yeah.

I've been sick in bed but a mama still has to get up and cook and I've been enjoying this free workshop that would too expensive for me. I am learning so much to improve my technical skills!

Here's another of my experiments in adding textures to an image. This image is a texturized version of this original shot below taken on January 1, 2010 at Baker Beach in San Francisco using my tiny Canon PowerShot S90.
I also tweaked the image a bit to make the bridge towers more vertical - and then applied the Purple Prose texture from French Kiss Textures. This particular texture has script elements on the left side of the image - and I thought those elements worked well into the sky and mountain area on the left side of the bridge itself.
I love how the texture adds dimension to the image - making it much more interesting to my eye as I want to explore it for longer than just the original image. For me, that's the power of adding textures - making the image much more interesting and something you want to spend time exploring - similar to how a great painting captures your eye and mind.

I first became interested in textures after beginning to follow Trey Ratcliff's HDR photography work. His Ultimate texture tutorial (aff. link) was a great learning experience for me. Since then I've enjoyed the work that Leslie Nicole does with her French Kiss Textures. In particular take a look at her French Kiss Textures Flickr group and her Facebook page - both highly recommended resources. Another great artist is fine art photographer Doug Landreth - he did a creativeLIVE workshop a while back that was amazing.

Vincent first came into my awareness with his short film Reverie (link below), which was one of the first films (the first?) shot with a Canon 5D MarkII Digital SLR (DSLR, or HDDSLR), the first DSLR camera that could shoot 1080p HD Video.

This course can be purchased from the creativeLIVE site... If you're quick (before about 6pm, 2010-05-02), it's discounted, and downloads are $79. Later, it'll be $129 for downloads. Eventually, it may also be available on DVD for an even higher price.
My take: Well worth the time (and money) for photographers who are interested in moving into film and/or video, and want a crash course in what will be different in the film/video world from the still world, and some of the basic things of what you'll need to do, know, have, etc.
This shot was created for the 1st assignment of the CreativeLive class given by David Nightingale on processing. I was under the impression we were to take a prop into a non interesting environment, so I brought my globe into the streets. My intention is to show how the earth is treated as though it were disposable.
