After I watched 3 days of Jasmine Star on creativeLIVE my little dude picked up his camera and started to photograph everything. Should I be scared or proud?

This CreativeMornings/NewYork event was generously hosted by the Auditorium.

Alex Rappaport, Shawn & Devin Young, Duncan Wall and Sallomé Hralima were our speakers.

The event was sponsored by CreativeLive, Mailchimp, and FreshBooks.

Watching Sue Bryce on CreativeLIVE.

I did a shot like this a while back when I first got my 50mm, and a few days ago I was looking back through my photos and found it. I had a few problems, and since it was just the piano that sits in our living room, I just went out and shot it over. I used some new editing techniques and it amazes me how much you can do in photoshop once you know how to use it. I actually was lucky enough to catch a rebroadcast of Brooke Shaden's workshop on CreativeLive recently, and I came in right when she was talking about editing (yes, that's where I got the idea to try doing expansions, more on that later). for a while now, to do selective burning/dodging I have created an overlay layer, and just painted it with white and black. but the limitation of that is that it literally just paints black over your image. I couldn't figure a way around that except to process my RAW file several times and use layer masks to do the job. but that is very time and memory consuming. when I saw what Brooke did, I just went "D'oh!". it was so obvious that I had totally forgotten about it! what she did was just do a loose freehand lasso selection over the part that needs to be darkened/lightened, then feathers it. then you can just use the curves tool, which is much more versatile because you can fine tune the exposure change a bit more than by just painting an overlay.

~~ For CreativeLIVE competition: The rule I'm breaking in this image is "Do not blow the highlights". ~~

2010 - Day 228

Nikon D3 / Sigma 150mm f/2.8 - 1/13 * f/5.0 * ISO 400 * @ 150mm

Let me preface this by saying good lord I have never in my life seen more mosquitos. I mean I looked at my ankle after about 15 seconds of standing still and realized that, no lie, there were 15 biting me at the same time. When I go back there will be massive amounts of bug spray. Seriously people its ridiculous.

Right so that being said I think I'm going to redo this one this weekend or maybe even tomorrow. I like it but if you look pretty close its a little out of focus and the camera moved a little. I think I might even pack up the strobes and light them myself.

Hmmm... What to do what to do...

Strobes. Definitely.

I'm in the process of watching the CreativeLive class that Zack Arias taugh. Its pretty awesome and although it has nothing to do with location work, there's a lot of good information there.

Rebroadcast right now!

I saw a workshop at creativelive.com and I tried to follow the class with my own pictures. The model is wearing a FC Barcelona jersey and the background is Stamford Bridge because why not!

I'm not super stoked on the theme this week, but I'm super happy with my lighting.

After watching Susan Stripling's course on CreativeLive, I decided to try and see if I could create some ring shots inspired by her awesomeness. These were lit with an Ice Light

Recently I had a fantastic opportunity to attend Jennifer Hudson's workshop on Creativelive. A little different from my norm, but exciting nonetheless.

An old tram carriage apparently in use as someone's house. In the background an old crane, which contains three hotel rooms nowadays. Perfect for people who want to overcome their fear of heights ;-)

Crane Hotel Faralda is an iconic and a world famous landmark in the middle of the well-known NDSM quarter, the creative and innovative hub of art, culture and business.

This photo session is based on the teachings of Sue Bryce. I am attracted to this style because of the beauty achieved through the posing techniques. Immediately after taking Ms. Bryce's class this week I sent notice to friends that www.EmotionGalleries.com would sponsor a glamour photo session for one lucky woman at a value of over $X,XXX.XX To enter to win the woman had to respond with one sentence of why they wanted to win and a snapshot of what they would bring for their wardrobe within 48hours. Heidi's entry was compelling based on the time and energy she placed in choosing her attire. I could tell she really would value the opportunity based on the effort she placed into preparing. She also explained how she wanted to have a photo taken in a dress she designed. I notified her at hour 49, that she was the winner of all the entries and scheduled her shoot within the next two days.

My friend Regina let me borrow her v-flat and we had a perfect sunny day to shoot. I pulled our couch out on the lani at my home ... which is only 500sq/ft (rent is outrageous where we live) so we would have a small corner to shoot. Heidi arrived straight from teaching an aerobics class, so she was dressed perfectly for a "before" shot :) She brought 5 of her designs all of which were beautiful!!! I was immediately attracted to the blue dress because I knew it could "fly"!!! The garment had lovely shoulder and arm draping that could be tossed into the air creating a beautiful wave effect. Heidi did base her design from the beautiful water elements that grace our Island of Hawaii - ocean, streams, clouds and the waterfalls.

My sweet husband returned form work just in time for the last set of shots and could hold the reflector and toss the dark blue parts of the dress. However his main job became wrangling our cat, Shadow, from pouncing on the beautiful dress as it was being photographed! She clawed it twice before being locked outside for the remaining 15 minutes of the photo session :)

This was my first attempt at the natural lighting Sue Bryce glamour portrait style... but certainly not my last!

Sometimes, I forget how much I love creating… making beautiful things.

This statue struck me a little weird at first glance. Does she also look like a ghost or a zombie to you, or is it just me?

www.essenceinphotography.com/the-belle-of-san-juan-bautista/ the other thing I want to mention is that I listened to day one of a really great free class about Lightroom workflow. the replay is going on right now on www.creativelive.com/live. Jared platt is teaching it and there is a ton of great info to make post much more efficient.

Posing and Empowerment Portraits inspired by Sue Bryce and CreativeLive. This is Andrea...and she's just absolutely beautiful!

I learned so much from you Sue. After meeting you (and having lunch with you!) in Vegas...and then watching you on CreativeLive, I'm so completely inspired I can't wait to do more! This is in my blood and part of who I am. I want to prove to women that they ARE beautiful because every woman deserves to feel it from the inside out!

Thank you so much, Sue!

Blessings and Love,

And here's Amanda, side profile. I really like the effects on this - inspired by both Kevin Kubota and Doug Gordon, whom I watched with open mouth on CreativeLive.com

Two items I learned from Wizwow's CreativeLive Table Top Workshop and used in this photo:

1. use something small to lift the object just off the surface to allow some light to slide under

2. place your light close to the scrim to get a pool of light

I watched 'Lighten Up And Shoot' today via creativeLIVE and the homework assignment for the day was to approach a stranger and ask them for a portrait. These guys were getting in to this fully restored '62 Impala and were nice enough to stop and pose for me and answer questions about the beautiful car.

"The worst type of crying wasn't the kind everyone could see--the wailing on street corners, the tearing at clothes. No, the worst kind happened when your soul wept and no matter what you did, there was no way to comfort it. A section withered and became a scar on the part of your soul that survived." -Katie McGarry

No matter if your feeling sadness, loniness, or helplessness one of the best things you can do is not to close yourself off but to reach out for help. 💜

.

Bonus points to anyone who can guess how I did this 😉 by the time I was done I had to wring out my shirt it was so wet 😂

.

Low-key lighting is a style of lighting for film and photography with an emphasis on shadows. That's certainly a medium I enjoy working with and really enjoy making shadows in my photography..

Margaret and I were 2 of 8 people selected to be eating models for the farm table dinner photo shoot during Penny De Los Santos's CreativeLIVE food photography workshop. Amazing food, fun company, and just and all-around good time.

Even though I was technically just a model for the farm table photo shoot, it didn't stop me from snapping a few food photos of my own while everything was getting set up. That bread was the first thing I ate during the meal. It was most tasty.

Watching Sue and Simona on creativeLIVE. Notice I'm still in the same spot as Ben Willmore's class last week. Still recovering from surgery, but glad to have these great workshops to watch!

Still life shot for Donald Giannatti's CreativeLive tabletop product photography workshop online this weekend. My shot along with several other fellow photographers that Don has been mentoring for the past 1.5 yrs. is in a workbook for the people who purchase the course.

I watched Don on CreativeLive this weekend and I really enjoyed his subject centric lighting theory. His workshop was quite the paradigm shift for me in thinking things through for the better. We played around with some of things we picked up in the studio on Friday.

It was my first time having raw carrots and radishes dipped in salt. I think I shall be eating that combo again, because it was damn good.

Fashion + Beauty with Matthew Jordan Smith

Flash tests goes on. The new panel seem to give nice shadows even to me. Great diy tip from the creativeLIVE btw. Please do not push the L :D Oh yes, I'm with another diy project, selfmade jerrycan guitar, grumble grumble, dwang, dwang... eiku eiku :D

Been watching creativelive.com/live this weekend with Matthew Jordan Smith and he made some sketches to try and make something out of. This is the beauty shot I did with my beautiful daughter Sofiya, not exactly like the sketch, but as he said on the show its a sketch and the MUA / model etc had that as a starting point. Sofiya did the MUA work as well as the modeling so it was her choice of headdress and look.

When I say New Softbox, I mean it's a HUGE step up from my home-made one seen in the comments here. I love the light that comes out of this Westcott Apollo 28". I saw it in the creativeLIVE Zack Arias class and knew I had to has it!

Watching Becky Higgins on CreativeLIVE also sparked me to go back to capturing more of our every day lives. Like these tiny rubber bands that are all.over.my.house! :)
