I am rarely happy with my images but i do like this one because it combines portraiture with a landscape, both of which i am fond of.
I just watched a phenomenal wedding photography class with Jasmine Star on CreativeLIVE.com. Well, looking at her work is a humbling experience and makes me feel so small. I just know i will never ever shoot like her... and why do i always have to compare myself to others?
My friend is pregnant and was happy to let me practice on her. She has had a bit of a rough road but he is almost here! One tip I will give - ALWAYS bring a roller to get off lint and fuzzys. You would not believe how much time I spent taking out fuzzys in editing.
One other tip - if anyone hasn't found this site already - it. is. awesome. - creativelive
They have free workshops if you watch live, and they are just the best! I have learned so much.

There were no touch ups, just a few Flora Bella actions layered on top of the original photo.

I started taking an online photography class: "The Fundamentals of Digital Photography" with John Greengo on creativelive.com/. When you catch it live it's free, but you can also purchase podcasts. I thought it was great - learned a lot.
Old shot, new vision, outlook full of surprises.
The lovely inspirational Ms. Monnie yet again, I tell you she knows how to work the camera & her Mima as well, lol.

The footage was shot at Bellevue College with a Canon EOS 7D. Video and sound editing were performed in the open source software "Lightworks" (used to edit Hollywood films such as "The King's Speech").
The crew (recorded together near the end of the video on the spiral staircase) from left to right:

We are all aspiring film students at Bellevue College. Also, our sincere apology for the background noise in the audio; it was quite windy that day.
The copy-protected materials used within this video fall under "fair use". The video clip for the episode of "House", which was also recorded using a DSLR camera, was used only to illustrate the relevancy and topic of this video. Because there is no sound, the clip is short, and the intent is educational, fair use applies. The music clip, "White Eyes" by Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, falls under the same qualifications of fair use as the previously mentioned work.

Image shot for CreativeLive's webinar with Don Giannatti's tabletop product photography class. The insight I got from the class is that product photography can be very lucrative, and can help support your other photography.
Lighting was a Home Depot light behind a Target Shower Curtain Liner (linen). Oh, and a $2 piece of white cardboard.
I love hi-end equipment!

Here’s my version of a Glamour Shoot à la Sue Bryce. My friend Jessica Mulvey (who is also a hair stylist and did the hair for the shoot) was gracious enough to model for me. Makeup was done by my friend Helene Thompson using Simona’s techniques. The girls and I had so much fun and they really felt like a million bucks and thanked me for the experience and for making them feel beautiful and hot (I don’t think they needed much help).
I shot outside in natural light using my Cannon Rebel XSi 24-105 mm lens. I have to say, I feel for Simona when she says she has seen Sue Bryce pose over 1,000 times and still struggles to get the poses just right. It is a LOT harder than it looks (Sue just makes it look so easy).
It was a no brainer to purchase the Sue Bryce Collection which I will be watching over and over and practicing endlessly. Thanks to Sue Bryce and Simona for inspiring me and a special thanks to Creative Live for providing top notch education. Everything I have learned about photography I learned at CreativeLive.

Another HDR, this time from my weekend in Newport, RI.
I'm currently listening to David duChemin (one of my favorite contemporary photographers) on creativeLIVE, where he is talking about "Vision Driven Photography." I think a quick summary of it would be to have a vision in mind when creating your photography. (Also notice the use of the word 'creating.')
So I'm trying to keep those lessons in mind, even while editing my photographs, which is somewhat after-the-fact - trying to give a story to an image after it's already been shot.
Unfortunately/fortunately I'm attracted to "shiny things" as he mentioned - just finding the cool thing and keep shooting like mad or editing in a million different ways - so I ended up with 6 or 7 edited versions of the above. I finally went with the first one I processed (after annoying my husband with, "hey which one do you like the best?"). But I kinda love the others too - each one has a different feel and sometimes becomes a completely different image. Maybe I'll post them up on the ol' blog.

Not only did I use Simona's hair and makeup tips and Sue's posing techniques during this shoot, but I was also able to use some really great Photoshop tips from Sue in order to really make my friend shine in this photo. Thank you, CreativeLIVE!!
