This small, old beach ball has a hole in the other side. Must have sunk to the bottom at some time. It added a bit of another color to the picture. Picked up the technique of using wide angle and having up close foreground object from watching Art Wolf on CreativeLive. I am a big fan of that for landscape. If you like this image, I put together a video slide show of 25 images that Linda and I took at Silveira Lake and posted it in my photostream...it even has music.

Yes, I too have been watching Zack Arias live the past few days in his lighting seminar at creativeLive. Unfortunately the schedule wasn't all that good for people in western europe, but I managed to work in some parts of his seminar in between working, sleeping and eating. I loved it, and although not everything he teached was new, he did show some amazing things with lighting modifiers.
Anyhoo, back to the photo. I just needed to shoot an abstract today, so don't look for any meaning in this photo. I just love the reflections going on and the rainbowy effect on the right.

This still life has been created as an entry for Don Giannatti's competition down at CreativeLive. Among the many useful teachings, Don empowered me with highlights and realisation that I could easily shape them as I wished.
So I won the Westcott package from Zack's creativeLIVE segment...and then the night of the mixer I won his OneLight DVD and a B&H gift card...so my ridiculous luck was kind of an on-going joke of the day.
I asked for a group photo at the end of the night (unfortunately, we had lost a few members of the group by this point) & he told me to sit in 'the winners seat' haha. Little did I know that would be both a blessing and a curse :-p
This time I DID bring my flash...but I took it out, and it was dead. So I got yet another crappy quality photo at a photography workshop...go figure :-p It kind of cracks me up when I think about it...I mean...I was at a photography lighting workshop, and yet my mixer photo used on camera flash and my workshop photo was on like 1/15th of a second, ISO 500ish & no flash/light. *sighs* only me...only me!

After spending the day watching Tamara Lackey on CreativeLive.com, I decided to give her shooting method a try. She shoots some with the camera to her eye but the rest of the time has it off to the side, shooting while talking and making eye contact with the child. She said she uses a wider lens when doing this, 35mm, I think it was, so I decided to try it using my 50mm with my dog last night. (none of my kids were around to use for this!) I was pretty impressed with myself for being able to get a couple of decent shots and think I'll keep working to see if I gain accuracy.
