I call this "a Ghostwriter at work."

My first hand at creativity

From the High Line Park's website:

Josh Kline (b. 1979, United States) creates sculptural installations that employ the language and strategies of advertising. For Archeo, Kline presents Skittles, an industrial refrigerator containing smoothies produced by the artist using unconventional and poetic combinations of ingredients including kale chips, squid ink, sneakers, phone bills, and pepper spray. Each smoothie stands as a portrait of a different contemporary lifestyle. When grouped together, they evoke a landscape of aspiration, taste, and – at times – deprivation in a metropolis like New York City.

Title: We Love Trees

Teacher: Ms. Karen Richards

Theme: Conservation (Nature, animals, etc)

Materials: Tempera paint, crayons, cut paper images, foam letters, Modge Podge and fabric glue.

Did you enjoy this project? Yes.

About: Our Group was made up of students in 3 different second grade classes. Some days we all met together during recess and some days we worked on the project in art class. The group read 3 FDR quotes and picked "There is nothing I am as fond of as a tree". The group thought about all the animals, insects and birds that love trees too because they need trees to live and made a big list. Everyone in the group took turns painting a big tree and the background. The group drew some of the animals, insects and birds and cut other animals, insects and birds out of discarded animal reference books. The group collaged the pictures onto the painting. The group used foam letters to spell out the quote and added the words "and we agree!"

This is what you will have created when you complete the free Get Started With Terragen2 tutorial that you can pick up at the link below.

Many people have been discouraged by the steep learning curve that faces them when first confronted with the program's user interface. My tutorial will take you on a step-by-step journey to create this mountain scene. The tutorial is very easy to follow, and it is compiled in a pdf format to make it as accessible as possible. When you have completed it you should have the confidence to start creating your own Terragen 2 scenes.

Good luck

The Milwaukee Road laid track in the Pacific Northwest beginning in 1906, connecting Chicago with Seattle and Tacoma. In 1979 the western portion of the route was abandoned. What's left is a recreational trail created from the original roadbed. It starts at Cedar Falls, 20 miles east of Seattle, and extends east across Washington, with portions preserved across Idaho and Montana.

On June 8, 2018 a friend and I cycled the 22 miles from Renslow, where a trestle (currently closed to pedestrians and cyclists) carried the main line over Interstate 90), to the bridge at Beverly, shown here spanning the Columbia River.

The first 4 miles of the trail from Renslow to Tunnel 45 (also known as Johnson's Creek Tunnel and the Boylston Tunnel) at Boylston, were sandy and uphill, making for laborious cycling which occasionally required walking. However, once past the tunnel, the next 18 miles were all downhill with a 2.2% grade on firmly packed dirt, making for sensational high-speed cycling. The elevation drop from Tunnel 45 (2,467 ft) to Beverly (548 ft) is 1,919 ft -- just over twice the height of Seattle's tallest building, the Columbia Center (1,866 ft). This 2.2% grade was the steepest in the entire Milwaukee Road system. Compare this with the 1.74% grade between Snoqualmie Pass and Cedar Falls.

With lots of stops for photos, it took us 5.5 hours to cover 22 miles. The combination of varied trail and wind conditions made for a great workout. The wind varied in speed (up to 45 mph) and regularly shifted from tail wind to head wind to side wind, and occasionally there was no wind. Temperatures were mild, wild grasses were green, and flowers were in full bloom. From our experience I would venture to bet that May and early June will usually offer ideal cycling conditions -- comfortable temperatures (75F to 90F) with lots of greenery and wild flowers. In spite of these ideal conditions, we didn't see another soul on the trail the entire day.

A major character of the trail between the Boylston and the way-point named Doris is a series of over a dozen cuts, created as the line sliced through hills along the route. This photo shows my companion getting ready to zoom through several of the cuts.

Until recently, the Milwaukee Road trail running across Washington state was named the John Wayne Pioneer Trail. The western portion of this trail, from Cedar Falls to the Columbia River (at Beverly) carried an additional name -- the Iron Horse State Park Trail. This meant that the there were two names for a portion of the trail, which created confusion. This changed on May 17, 2018 when the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission replaced both names with a single new name -- Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail. My proposed recommendation is the Washington State Milwaukee Road Trail, which could eventually connect with the Idaho Milwaukee Road Trail, and that could then connect with the Montana Milwaukee Road Trail. It's never too late for another name change.

For my last quarter at UC Santa Cruz, I was finally able to take intro to photo. this batch is taken from my first assignment: the photo scavenger hunt. We basically had to go down a list of things that were supposed to inspire us to shoot a variety of different things. I had fun with it. The category each picture is from is the name of each photo.

The newest addition to the Top Shelf Company hospitality fleet is a custom built 53' foot Featherlite trailer with two massive 36' slide-outs. Previously serving as a mobile office building, this trailer has been transformed into a world class hospitality center by Trailers of the East Coast in Mocksville, NC. The hospitality center will be at the race track during the Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 12, 2013.

In an example of a fitting combination of vision and purpose, this amazing unit will be serving fans of Quicken Loans Racing NASCAR driver Ryan Newman of the Stewart-Haas Racing team. Just like Quicken Loans, this mobile hospitality trailer has been "Engineered to Amaze."

In November I decided to paint NINETY paintings in thirty days! It was crazy, but I almost made it. This is one of them. You can read more about how the project got started here:

What lies before

The need to create is one of the strongest and most beautiful desires we humans have. There is such power and magic in creating Beauty in any of her forms. For me the need to create is sometimes overwhelming, almost suffocating. The need to create Beauty is all consuming. I believe that all of us are driven to find someway to express ourselves, find our own individuality, to share with others who we truly are. And what is more beautiful and powerful, overwhelming and magical, than creating life? Aren't we all drawn to creating something that has a little bit of our soul mixed in? The photo above is of a painting I did last night while thinking of my own little one that I learned was on their way only a week ago. I have life growing in me, each day it grows bigger and stronger. And it is breathtakingly wonderful, and beautiful. I want to make a life for this child to be wondrous and full of light. I want to create a place of love, in and out of my being. A place where dreams come true. I am going to be a mother.

I saved little bits of leftover embroidery floss snippings each day as I stitched - over the past couple of weeks and glued them to the page.

I may keep adding to this page until it is completely covered ... but for now, I am ready to move on.
