first race of last season at the p1 kart circuit. wisdom gained: when attempting to block for a teammate soloing off the front, don't get too antsy as you try to get into first position of the chasing group when coming out of a 180-degree turn--you will clip your pedal on the pavement and launch yourself in the opposite direction. (and don't try and take the final 180-degree turn at 30+ mph at around 6:25am, when the track has not soaked up the warmth of the sun as said teammate attempted to do--you will crash then too, sliding off the track and into the cholla and probably take a few others with you.) lucky to not sustain one of the most common cycling injuries--the broken collarbone. although i did sustain the most common injury--road rash (though most of it unseen in this photo).
Going thru old photos with family. This was taken in 1978 on Burnside & 157th Ave, Portland, Oregon. Flight 173 from NY ran out of fuel and crashed, destroying two houses, killing 10, but 175 survived. A prisoner, being returned, escaped but only after helping several prisoners. The cause was attributed to poor maintenance, the captain and crew were working on a landing gear problem and failed to notice that fuel was burning too fast. The captain felt people blamed him but at a survivor reunion was given a standing ovation for his skill in landing the plane in such difficult circumstances. This happened a year after the movie Airport ‘77, so proof that Life Does Imitate Art

All it takes to visit this exciting landmark is a peaceful stroll across the radioactive marshes. The crash-site has idyllic views of the countryside, and may contain interesting technology for the sharp-eyed explorer. Be careful though, as the wreckage may be slippery when wet. - The Commonwealth Tourism Board, 2287.
Built in anticipation for Fallout 4, which I have a copy of but nothing to play it on (yet)! The orange outfit is supposed to represent the Radiation Suit from NV.
Dismantled Boeing B-52E Stratofortress, Edwards Air Force Base, Southern California.
Fun title , but it's actually not a crash site at all, though it does kinda resembles one. The historical details on this aircraft, serial # 0-70119, can be read in their entirety here, but in short, this decommissioned aircraft was placed out on what's known as the Photo Resolution Range at Edwards AFB back in the 1970's, and used as an aerial reconnaissance test-target. It was destroyed in 1991 for START treaty compliance with the Russians, and is now just a sorry collection of disembodied components set along the southern edge of the Rogers Dry Lake Bed in the Mojave Desert.
An interesting fact about all these jets placed on static display out on the desert fringes of Edwards Air Force Base. They're all technically in the inventory of Air Force Flight Test Center Museum, also located at Edwards AFB, with one even having a small, fallen-down plastic sign in the vicinity stating, as I recall, something to the effect that it's unlawful to mess with any of the "archaeological" exhibits on Edwards AFB property. I put archaeological in quotes because I'm not sure how these airframes count as archaeological exhibits, but that's roughly what it said.

This Beechcraft reportedly crashed in 1978 during a parachute jump promotional event for a brothel. The sign for the brothel is across the street and is featured in my previous post. Evidently the deal was if the parachute jumpers landed on a mattress they could spend the night with a lady of their choice. The pilot was distracted by the line-up of ladies and crashed the plane.
This is from a trip last month - or maybe January - to the Washington Coast. I'm not sure what it is, but there's something about this one that keeps bringing me back to it...
OK, this one's just for fun….
This is a female goosander at the frozen lake, but she was very confused by the ice and almost careered into the crow when she landed, she just couldn't stop!
After she recovered herself, she flew off again and just circled for ages, I think not daring to make such a fool of herself again!
More in the comments.

Crash and burn - Phrase meaning to have a spectacular failure or fall from grace. Considered to have originated from losing an aerial dogfight.
I went to our river around noon to take a few photos of the waterfowl. Only the Egpytians geese were there but that was okay as they never disappoint. Once again they turned out to be very entertaining. :)
