I went to the Antarctica just after the big economic crash of 2008 / 2009. It was my goal and an end to a long trip through South America, via bus, overland. Due to the lack of tourist, a group of us negotiated a very good price for this trip. When crossing the Drake Passage, you'll encounter some of the roughest seas on the planet. At one point in the trip a big wave hit the boat and the tables and chairs, which were chained to the wooden floor, broke free and flew across the room. All said, well worth the effort.
My interpretation of X-Mass.. :-) all a good x-mass and the best for 2017, with some awesome photo's!!

The small waves crash upon the rocks breaking the silence at Royal Palms Beach, in the San Pedro area of Los Angeles
In case of a runaway train, this area on the Mail Rail network could be used to crash it before it reaches the loading/unloading platforms, which can be seen just ahead through the gloomy tunnels.
The Mail Rail tunnels were used to transport mail all around London on a network of underground electric trains. It opened in 1927, and only ceased service in 2003.
The sight filled the northern sky; the immensity of it was scarcely conceivable. As if from Heaven itself, great curtains of delicate light hung and trembled. Pale green and rose-pink, and as transparent as the most fragile fabric, and at the bottom edge a profound fiery crimson like the fires of Hell, they swung and shimmered loosely with more grace than the most skillful dancer.

Hastings jetty completely obscured by a huge wave during Storm Eunice. I had my Canon EOS 5D MkI & ancient EF 80-200mm f/2.8L wrapped up in a plastic bag sealed around the lens filter and eyepiece to protect them otherwise they would have been ruined with all the salt spray in 115kph winds!
