An aircraft accident investigator can often make initial conclusions just by walking a crash site. You can draw valid conclusions from engines that hit the ground with their power off. Initial investigation points to a faulty altimeter that told the all-weather landing system the plane was at ground level, even though it was 150m in the air. On an aircraft-controlled landing, the plane reduces throttles to the idle power stop when it thinks it has landed. That's disastrous if the aircraft is actually airborne.

When my colleagues at Cycling Plus gave me a helmet to review I don't think they intended me to carry out a full crash test. However cycling home last night from a friend's party (where I consumed a small cola and four cheesy snacks) I fell off my bike pretty comprehensively.
I choose the roundabout at the bottom of the Wells Way in Bath for my experiment. The roads around there have been very greasy for the past few weeks with all the nearby Southgate construction work. But ignoring common sense I went into the downhill 180 degree bend too fast and with too much front brake on. My front wheel went from under me in a flash and with no time to put out a hand, I cushioned the impact with my head. I gave myself a nasty headache and grazes all down my right hand side, including this attractive bash on my chin.
The £110 Specialized 2D helmet is now scrap; with having split straight through in a couple of places. But it definitely saved me from a trip to hospital :)

Not really. The display at the entrance to the monorail station at the Contemporary Resort had crashed.
posh plasmas advertising the new 'cube' multi-use development - pity they're connected to a crap powerpoint display, and the computer's crashed.
It's been like that for a few days now - you'd think some of the staff would notice.
The Fairy Lochs above Shieldaig hide a sad story.
After surviving the 2nd world war a B24 Liberator bomber with 16 people on board had an engine fire in bad weather whilst flying home to the USA in 1945. Thinking they were over water nobody bailed out, as the B24 got lower they had to take evasive action to miss a peak that must have come into view the rudders snapped off (4 miles distant from the crash site) and it went into a final dive. The Sheildaig Lodge Hotel was used as a base and a mortuary for the crash investigators.
Well worth the hike up, a warning though it is very emotional to those who appreciate their freedom today.
Please if you do visit take care not to disturb the wreckage showing your appreciation to the 16 who died.
With all the warmth there are some big puddles on the road this season. This guy apparently took the puddle to quick, lost control, hit the middle and flipped. Blurry picture - - I was scrambling to get my point and shoot out to snap the picture and not block the cars behind me. I'm headed north, I think he was coming south.....there a huge puddle of ice and water on the other side of the road just behind the ambulance.
