When operational, the interior of these tall hollow cooling towers is honeycombed with a network of pipes and a spray system for venting the steam. After condensation, the water was recycled for return to the nearby river or re-used for industrial processes after it had played its part in driving the turbines. The horizontal concrete bars at the top of this shot are known as 'cooling baffles', and there are many thousands of them radiating out from the centre of the structure.

On Friday, February 7, 2014, high school and middle school students dashed into the icy Atlantic as part of Special Olympics Virginia’s largest fundraiser: The Polar Plunge and the Cool School Challenge.
“Raising one million dollars for the fourth year in a row is incredible,” said Rick Jeffrey, Special Olympics Virginia president. “More importantly, though, these funds will help us to build bigger, better, more inclusive communities across the state of Virginia.”
In addition to the money raised, they got to take the icy dip into the Atlantic, all while earning a Friday “pass” from school, earn community service credit, Costume contests – prizes for best dressed male and female, prizes for teacher or team sponsor, and freezing photos.

Nice way to cool off - seen at the Brooklyn Museum on the first day of our first heat wave of the summer - temperatures reached near 100 degrees. Everybody that loves summer turn off your airconditioners and stand outside - I HATE summer so I get to stay in the a/c.
I interrupted a camp in the valley this afternoon. Felt as though I was trespassing in someone's front yard.
I've mentioned this before but my youngest son is just a super cool kid. He loves odd, quirky things & has such a cool attitude.... sometimes too cool!!! He found these sunglasses at a flea market & had to have them.
My fave part of this photo.... the details. The tiny little freckles across his nose....... the dirty, boy fingernails. You can even see his messed up fingernails on his middle & ring fingers from when he smashed them in the bathroom door at the local Kmart. The door cut through the nailbed so those two are now shorter than the rest of his nails. Poor thing!

I am even putting the current yellow trapezoid children slow crossing warning blades that word "CHILDREN SLOW CROSSING" and electric school bus stop signs on fancy gourmet ice cream trucks such as Cool Haus for safety and help with people with disability and TOTALLY RIGHT and NEVER use the bad old outdated red trapezoid children slow crossing warning blades that word "IF-SAFE STOP THEN-GO" which were yield signs that say STOP which is TOTALLY WRONG.
