"and the weather for today is for a cool change with increasing winds" HSS

This guy was sitting in front of me at a Chicago Cubs game earlier this month, and I liked the look of his specs, and the way that the glass was refracting the view of the crowd.

Slowly, day by day the seasons change. I enjoy the feel of my gown for sleep, perhaps I am asleep, yet the breeze is cool and soft.

Taking a moment to enjoy the last touches of an Indian Summer that will soon pass on to Autumn.

And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.

Info: Coconut Island, or Moku Ola is a small island in Hilo Bay, just offshore from Lili'uokalani Park and Gardens, in Hilo, off the island of Hawaii [Big Island].

Thoughts of cooler times as the heat rises to 100 degrees (about 37 C) today

Paxos has several Blue lagoon caves of which this is one, I've been amazed by the blue of the water there, the colors are therefore not provided on these pictures, tomorrow a glimpse into the cave where the boat was in a little piece ,

Look especially in large

It was a little on the cool side this morning.

Look here!

Ventured down the coast for a few days this week, Dovercourt is a grand total of 24 miles from home and I think that's as far as we're going to get this year in terms of a summer holiday!

The traditional view of the Low Lighthouse is normally a sunrise shot with it being on the East coast but it also makes an interesting subject during the day. We've had a few very hot sunny days here this week- it was all blue hazy skies so not a lot in the way of photographic opportunities, but it was lovely to see people enjoying the beach and cooling off in the sea. I love the sparkles on the sea on a bright sunny day.

(I THINK I got permission from the pretty girl in the pink swimsuit to photograph them. I was some distance away but we had a vague waving/pointing at the camera/distant thumbs up kind of exchange. I was pleased to see when I zoomed in she is looking straight at me and smiling :) )

Happy Weekend everyone!

Colour re-edit of a shot from July 2015.

For me the black and white that I originally uploaded is the winner but here is a colour re-edit of a very cool character on a hot and sunny day. Enjoy.

Blue hour cool tones dominate the scene as the river cuts through the rock.

This powerplant near Weisweiler in Germany burns brown coal (lignite) from a nearby open pit in order to generate electricity. Every year about 18 million tons lignite are being burned, producing 14,5 million tons (2021) of CO2, contributing significantly to climate change (source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraftwerk_Weisweiler).

It's brutally hot today so let's cool off with something from February on a brutal day at the opposite end of the temperature spectrum!

Four hours after leaving North Conway the Conway Scenic Railroad's plow train has won the battle as they punch thru the deep rock cut at the Gateway with ex Lamoille Valley (originally Central Vermont) Russell snowplow 4211 leading the way. They are at MP 84.5 (as measured from Portland) on the old Maine Central Mountain Subdivision and when they reach 1900 ft elevation at the summit of the line at Crawford Notch depot just a half mile ahead they will have climbed some 1400 ft in the 25 miles since leaving North Conway on a grade of up to 2.2%.

CSRR GP38s 255 and 252 providing the horsepower are right at home here having been built in November 1966 for the Maine Central Railroad as part of an order of 13 of the model which were the first batch of second generation diesel locomotives purchased by the road. 255 came to Conway Scenic in 2022 and still wears her Vermont Rail System red paint from her nearly two decade second career as Clarendon & Pittsford 203 after having being sold by MEC successor Guilford Transportation in the early 1990s. 252 meanwhile was the last one in service on successor Guilford Transportation, lasting more than three decades, and having seen her other dozen siblings retired and scrapped or sold. She came to Conway Scenic in March 2010 along with GP35 216 in a trade with Pan Am Railways for FP9s 6505 and 6516 that would become Pan Am's OCS power.

I was really happy to discover this litte Coastal Waterfall in the land of the Bunurong People.

This image was taken on my second trip there that timed it better with tides and morning light.

We're in for a very hot & humid week so thought I'd go with a 'cool pick' from the past. ;)

Another king penguin picture from Grytviken, South Georgia. A number of these birds were clustered together in the shallow water that was flowing out over the stone beach from a small creek. They seem to like doing that sort of thing. I've seen photos where there are thousands lining a river of snow and glacier melt. Birds have a system of countercurrent heat exchange in their legs that helps keep them warm in cold weather. I wonder if it works in reverse to help the penguins cool off. It cool for the humans, but perhaps that was not the case for the blubber rich kings. I was not able to find out if it does indeed work both ways, but it seems possible.

Just a couple of women walking on the beach on a cloudy day at my favorite place on the California coast, Pescadero State Beach.

Still trying to escape the heat by going to Crescent Park.
