Airplane contrail from Emerald Bay State Park. There are lots of contrails in the skies here - this is probably a major route between Los Angeles and points north.
The contrails have been driving south. The left one near the top is almost completely diffused into background haze, which are the remains of earlier contrails.

The original direction was W/NW but the pilots 'chose' nearby un191, that is 'sharper' N :)

This morning was unique in the sense that the clouds suspended above the contrail with a low to the horizon sun casting a shadow of the contrail onto the higher clouds. I've been waiting to get the chance to shoot similar atmosphere again.
Took these with my son's DSi a few months back. Had to tinker with noise reduction and all that fun stuff. The point of the photos is not the quality, but the content. I like contrails.
Evolution of the STS-117 noctilucent contrail as the sun got progressively lower below the horizon as seen from Satellite Beach, Florida. Some of the variations in overall picture brightness are artifacts of the particular exposure settings of the individual images.

The view from the 787 would have made a cracking shot. I bet nobody was looking.
Sometimes you just see strange things in the sky. I couldn't see the jet responsible for this massive contrail, but I did catch a plane crossing the contrail.
I was really trying to push the limits of capturing detail at a far distance with the iphone 4.
