Wider is better. More view of the sky with the contrail marked evening sky. This picture, unlike the other contrail pic, has no plane flying through.
Just got my Canon G7 back from repair, and couldn't wait to take pics with it's powerful 6x zoom lens, which I was missing since the standard lens that came with my other Canon EOS 400D was just 3x zoom. Who knew, there was a nice contrail outside the window to welcome me and my G7. :)
Evolution of the STS-118 noctilucent contrail, taken on the evening of August 8, 2007, from the north side of the Pineda Causeway, overlooking the Banana River with southern Merritt Island in the distance.
the random shape of contrails and their relationship with static objects have always fascinated me. Seen in Spadina and College
For this one I wanted less sign and more sky/contrail. My little Sunpack on camera flash just barely got to the speed limit sign, so I had to boost it in LR. Trust me though, that it looks better that way rather than in silhouette.
Edited Landsat 8 PR image of airplane contrails over the Mojave Desert in Southern California. Color/processing/cropped variant.

Contrails are condensation trails (sometimes vapour trails): artificial clouds made by the exhaust of jet aircraft or wingtip vortices which precipitate a stream of tiny ice crystals in moist, frigid upper air. They are the cloud-like trails of water vapour that can be seen in the wake of airplanes, either from their exhaust or sometimes from their wing tips.
This was a very funny day with the sky being absolutely full on contrails. There must have been very little wind at the upper levels. The is the same patch of sky as the last two pictures, but taken from a different place, hence there is some hillside in front of it.
