Company Overview

Sea Eagle Boats, Inc. is a business that was established as a family entity in the year 1968. The headquarters is located on Long Island. The offices are located near the prestigious Port Jefferson Harbor, which is famous for being the venue where the finest sailing yachts in the history of America were built. The location of the headquarters paves the way for the company to enjoy unrestricted access to multitudes of bays as well as secluded water bodies. These are the waters that the company uses to test their new creations.

The first ever product assembled by the company was an inflatable kayak that could only carry two bodies. It was named Pyrawa and was assembled in France. The product enjoyed massive success in the 1960s and 1970s. The product was distributed and sold to the public through dealers and direct sales. Since then, the company has introduced multiple new models that continue making waves in the industry for being the best. Over the years, the company’s product portfolio has grown to include the motor mount boats, kayaks, as well as SUPs. The continuous introduction of new models has made Sea Eagle a global brand renowned for reliability, quality, as well as affordability.

Durability and lightweight features are considered to be the pillars of the Sea Eagle kayaks today. Excellence in customer service has also given the company a competitive edge over the rivals. Unfortunately, critics have been pointing out several limitations of the Sea Eagle kayaks with the space being a notable point of reference. The kayaks are extremely small and, thus, big-bodied persons may struggle to fit in them. In particular, the tandem versions are criticized because two people cannot paddle together comfortably. Besides, critics argue that it is difficult to keep the seats inflated for long thereby limiting usability due to discomfort.

Sea Eagle 300x Inflatable Kayak

The Sea Eagle 300x is earmarked as a solo kayak designed for paddlers in love with outdoor adventures. The gear is made of durable materials that give it the capability to withstand significant obstacles such as the Class IV whitewater rapids. The durability of the kayak does not compromise the stability and comfort features. It works best in the flat water conditions. A weight of roughly 28 pounds gives the kayak maneuverability unlike any other model in the market. Individuals looking for solo adventure should prioritize the Sea Eagle 300x.

Review of the Sea Eagle 330 Inflatable Kayak

The key pillar of the Sea Eagle 330 model comes in the form of the ease of use and assembly. A thorough analysis of the model indicates that it is designed to give the user the ability to store it easily without any complication. It is also easy to transport from one location to another. The pump that comes with the model can be used to inflate it within minutes! The price is affordable compared to other models in the market. Moreover, the paddling experience is fun because it does not require expertise to steer it along the river or water body. The use of a durable material that is puncture-resistant places the Sea Eagle 330 at the fingertips of the enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, the use of the ultra-thick polykrylar material gives the model a lightweight feature without compromising durability. The Sea Eagle 330 can manage to carry a load of approximately 500 lbs. These features empower the model to withstand nearly every obstacle including the fearsome Class III whitewater rapids. The incorporation of welded seams, nine-inch tubes, as well as the I-beam construction beams makes a beast in the water. The sellers provide a carrying bag, sprayskirts, foot pump, and two inflatable seats to the buyer upon purchase.

Review of the Sea Eagle 370 Inflatable Kayak

The Sea Eagle SE370 Inflatable Sports Kayak is regarded as a mighty beast that can be used to glide across large water bodies like lakes. It can also be used to zip down a small water body like a river. At 26 pounds, it has lightweight despite having the capability to transport two adult persons with a combined weight of approximately 500 pounds. Transportation of the gear is easy. You can even take a dog for a ride if there is no paddling partner for the company.

The dog and other animals are welcome to the Sea Eagle SE370 because they cannot damage the plastic hull. Deflating the kayak compresses it into a compact size that can be transported to different camping or paddling spots easily. The kayak can be used for fishing, diving, paddling, whitewater rafting, camping, or any other outdoor activity. Purchasing this inflatable kayak brings stability, removable seats, inflatable spray skirts, as well as self-bailing drain valves.

Review of the Sea Eagle Fast Track Inflatable Kayak

Sea Eagle has already won NMMA Certification for this model due to the myriad features that increase the experience and satisfaction of paddlers. For example, one or both paddlers supported by the gear can use the 6 D-rings to secure their seats. The incorporation of the stern and bow grab handles gives the paddlers ease of transportation. There are rear and front spray skirts that protect the paddlers to keep them dry at all times. Deflating the kayak compresses its size for stress-free storage.

The hull of the Sea Eagle Fast Track is made of a puncture, sun, and saltwater resistant plastic that couples with an inner high-pressure drop stitch floor to give the kayak a firm structure. Tracking capability is introduced via the exterior keel. The kayak is fitted with a removable skeg to enhance speed as well as optimal control. Purchasing the kayak gives you stern storage bags, waterproof storage bag, as well as upgraded paddles and seats.

Review of the Sea Eagle Razorlite

The key features of the Sea Eagle Razorlite are undoubtedly the lightweight as well as the substantial performance levels that it brings. The Sea Eagle Razorlite comes with a high speed that makes it fun to paddle all day long. The inclusion of the high-performance tandem inflatable kayak that every paddler wishes to use due to comfort. Its quality is expressed by the ease of setting up as well as aesthetic beauty. The kayak gives the paddler the ability to engage in fast paddling due to the narrow design. The drop stitch design makes it durable. It is also fitted with an elongated, hard nose stern and bow. Users at the advanced and intermediate levels should look out for the Sea Eagle Razorlite.

Guess it was about time I gave an update on the rotting apple and as I just received a new ring light in the post today, it seemed an ideal subject to test it on :)

You will have to excuse the over-exposure at the bottom, I hadnt taken into account the amount of reflected light bouncing off the sheet of paper that I placed it on. So I did learn something from my first test, LOL.

I have wanted a ring flash for a long time, but was too lazy to make one and those that were offered commercially, looked pretty fragile, or very expensive. Then recently I spotted these on Ebay and they looked ideal, plus the price was low enough to take a chance.

It is a Meike FC100 LED Macro Ring Flash and for just £20 ($30 approx) I just couldnt resist :)

First impressions are very good and it is so easy to instal on the camera and start using. This shot was taken in it's continuous light mode, which made it so easy for focussing. I did also try it as a flash, which was equally effective, though the duration of the flash, was a lot longer than with a conventional flash, so may not be ideal for freezing movement.

Really looking forward to playing and experimenting more, but that unfortunately will have to go on hold for a few days, as real work has to take priority for now :(

The vehicle was moving with 40 km/h directly against the camera - the AF-C mode was able to hold on the target. Very good performance for a compact camera.

Who is Linden Hudson?

CLASSICBANDS DOT COM said: “According to former roadie David Blayney in his book SHARP DRESSED MEN: sound engineer Linden Hudson co-wrote much of the material on the ZZ Top ELIMINATOR album.” (end quote)

(ZZ Top never opted to give Linden credit, which would have been THE decent thing to do. It would have helped Linden's career as well. The band and management worked ruthlessly to take FULL credit for the hugely successful album which Linden had spent a good deal of time working on. Linden works daily to tell this story. Also, the band did not opt to pay Linden, they worked to keep all the money and they treated Linden like dirt. It was abuse. Linden launched a limited lawsuit, brought about using his limited resources which brought limited results and took years. No one should treat the co-writer of their most successful album like this. It's just deeply fucked up.)

LICKLIBRARY DOT COM (2013 interview) ZZ TOP'S BILLY GIBBONS FINALLY ADMITTED: “the Eliminator sessions in 1983 were guided largely by another one of our associates, Linden Hudson, a gifted engineer, during the development of those compositions.” (end quote) (Gibbons admits this after 30 years, but offers Linden no apology or reparations for lack of credit/royalties)

+++

MUSICRADAR DOT COM (2013 interview with ZZ Top's guitarist Billy Gibbons broke 30 years of silence about Linden Hudson introducing synthesizers into ZZ Top's sound.) Gibbons said: “This was a really interesting turning point. We had befriended somebody who would become an influential associate, a guy named Linden Hudson. He was a gifted songwriter and had production skills that were leading the pack at times. He brought some elements to the forefront that helped reshape what ZZ Top were doing, starting in the studio and eventually to the live stage. Linden had no fear and was eager to experiment in ways that would frighten most bands. But we followed suit, and the synthesizers started to show up on record.” (once again, there was no apology from ZZ Top or Billy Gibbons after this revelation).

+++

TEXAS MONTHLY MAGAZINE (Dec 1996, By Joe Nick Patoski): "Linden Hudson floated the notion that the ideal dance music had 124 beats per minute; then he and Gibbons conceived, wrote, and recorded what amounted to a rough draft of an album before the band had set foot inside Ardent Studios."

+++

FROM THE BOOK: SHARP DRESSED MEN - ZZ TOP (By David Blayney) : "Probably the most dramatic development in ZZ Top recording approaches came about as Eliminator was constructed. What had gone on before evolutionary; this change was revolutionary. ZZ Top got what amounted to a new bandsman (Linden) for the album, unknown to the world at large and at first even to Dusty and Frank."

+++

CNET DOT COM: (question posed to ZZ Top): Sound engineer Linden Hudson was described as a high-tech music teacher on your highly successful "Eliminator" album. How much did the band experiment with electronic instruments prior to that album?

+++

THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE, MARCH 2018: "Eliminator" had a tremendous impact on us and the people who listen to us," says ZZ Top’s bass player. Common band lore points to production engineer Linden Hudson suggesting that 120 beats per minute was the perfect rock tempo, or "the people's tempo" as it came to be known.

+++

FROM THE BOOK: SHARP DRESSED MEN - ZZ TOP by David Blayney: (page 227): "...the song LEGS Linden Hudson introduced the pumping synthesizer effect."

+++

(Search Linden Hudson in the various ZZ Top Wikipedia pages which are related to the ELIMINATOR album and you will find bits about Linden. Also the main ZZ Top Wikipedia page mentions Linden. He's mentioned in at least 7 ZZ Top related Wikipedia pages.)

+++

FROM THE BOOK: SHARP DRESSED MEN - ZZ TOP By David Blayney: "Linden found himself in the position of being Billy's (Billy Gibbons, ZZ Top guitarist) closest collaborator on Eliminator. In fact, he wound up spending more time on the album than anybody except Billy. While the two of them spent day after day in the studio, they were mostly alone with the equipment and the ideas."

+++

FROM THE BOOK: BEER DRINKERS & HELL RAISERS: A ZZ TOP GUIDE (By Neil Daniels, released 2014): "Hudson reportedly had a significant role to play during the planning stages of the release (ELIMINATOR)."

+++

FROM THE BOOK: ZZ TOP - BAD AND WORLDWIDE (ROLLING STONE PRESS, WRITTEN BY DEBORAH FROST): "Linden was always doing computer studies. It was something that fascinated him, like studio technology. He thought he might understand the components of popular songs better if he fed certain data into his computer. It might help him understand what hits (song releases) of any given period share. He first found out about speed; all the songs he studied deviated no more than one beat from 120 beats per minute. Billy immediately started to write some songs with 120 beats per minute. Linden helped out with a couple, like UNDER PRESSURE and SHARP DRESSED MAN. Someone had to help Billy out. Dusty and Frank didn't even like to rehearse much. Their studio absence wasn't really a problem though. The bass and drum parts were easily played with a synthesizer or Linn drum machine." (end quote)

+++

FROM THE BOOK: "SHARP DRESSED MEN - ZZ TOP" BY DAVID BLAYNEY: "After his quantitative revelations, Linden informally but instantly became ZZ Top's rehearsal hall theoretician, producer, and engineer." (end quote)

+++

FROM THE BOOK: "ZZ TOP - BAD AND WORLDWIDE" (ROLLING STONE PRESS, BY DEBORAH FROST): "With the release of their ninth album, ELIMINATOR, in 1983, these hairy, unlikely rock heroes had become a pop phenomenon. This had something to do with the discoveries of a young preproduction engineer (Linden Hudson) whose contributions, like those of many associated with the band over the years, were never acknowledged."

+++

FROM THE BOOK: SHARP DRESSED MEN - ZZ TOP (By DAVID BLAYNEY) : "The integral position Linden occupied in the process of building Eliminator was demonstrated eloquently in the case of song Under Pressure. Billy and Linden, the studio wizards, did the whole song all in one afternoon without either the bass player or drummer even knowing it had been written and recorded on a demo tape. Linden synthesized the bass and drums and helped write the lyrics; Billy did the guitars and vocals."

+++

FROM THE BOOK: "TRES HOMBRES - THE STORY OF ZZ TOP" BY DAVID SINCLAIR (Writer for the Times Of London): "Linden Hudson, the engineer/producer who lived at Beard's house (ZZ's drummer) had drawn their attention to the possibilities of the new recording technology and specifically to the charms of the straight drumming pattern, as used on a programmed drum machine. On ELIMINATOR ZZ Top unveiled a simple new musical combination that cracked open a vast worldwide market.

+++

FROM THE BOOK: "SHARP DRESS MEN - ZZ TOP" BY DAVID BLAYNEY: "ELIMINATOR went on to become a multi-platinum album, just as Linden had predicted when he and Billy were setting up the 124-beat tempos and arranging all the material. Rolling Stone eventually picked the album as number 39 out of the top 100 of the 80's. Linden Hudson in a fair world shoud have had his name all over ELIMINATOR and gotten the just compensation he deserved. Instead he got ostracized."

+++

FROM THE BOOK: SHARP DRESSED MEN - ZZ TOP by DAVID BLAYNEY: "He (Linden) went back with the boys to 1970 when he was working as a radio disc jocky aliased Jack Smack. He was emcee for a show ZZ did around that time, and even sang an encore tune with the band, perhaps the only person ever to have that honor." (side note: this was ZZ Top's very first show).

+++

FROM THE BOOK: "SHARP DRESSED MEN - ZZ TOP" BY DAVID BLAYNEY: "Linden remained at Frank's (ZZ Top drummer) place as ZZ's live-in engineer throughout the whole period of ELIMINATOR rehearsals, and was like one of the family... as he (Linden) worked at the controls day after day, watching the album (ELIMINATOR) take shape, his hopes for a big step forward in his production career undoubtably soared. ELIMINATOR marked the first time that ZZ Top was able to rehearse an entire album with the recording studio gadgetry that Billy so loved. With Linden Hudson around all the time, it also was the first time the band could write, rehearse, and record with someone who knew the men and the machines. ZZ Top was free to go musically crazy, but also musically crazy like a fox. Linden made that possible too."

+++

FROM THE BOOK "ZZ TOP - BAD AND WORLDWIDE" (ROLLING STONE PRESS, BY DEBORAH FROST, WRITER FOR ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE): "... SHARP DRESSED MAN which employed Hudson's 120 beat-per-minute theory. The feel, the enthusiasm, the snappy beat and crisp clean sound propelled ELIMINATOR into the ears and hearts of 5 million people who previously could have cared less about the boogie band of RIO GRANDE MUD."

+++

THE GREATEST ROCK REBRAND OF ALL TIME (by Jason Miller): "Sound engineer Linden Hudson researched the tempos at which the most popular rock tracks in the charts had been recorded. His data showed that there was something very special about 120 beats to a minute. Gibbons decided to record pretty much the whole of ZZ Top’s new album at that tempo. The result? 1983’s Eliminator. It was named after Gibbons’ Ford Coupé; it had been created through a unique combination of creative collaboration and data mining. And it was about to take the world by storm."

+++

ULTIMATECLASSICROCK DOT COM: "This new melding of styles was encouraged by Hudson, who served as a kind of pre-producer for EL LOCO ... ... Hudson helped construct ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard's home studio, and had lived with him for a time. That led to these initial sessions, and then a closer collaboration on 1983's ELIMINATOR.

+++

FIREDOGLAKE DOT COM: "I like Billy Gibbons' guitar tone quite a lot, but I lost all respect for them after reading how badly they fucked over Linden Hudson (the guy who was the brains behind their move to include synthesizers and co-wrote most of their career-defining Eliminator record)."

+++

EMAIL FROM A ZZ TOP FAN TO LINDEN (One Of Many): "I write you today about broken hearts, one is mine and one is for you. I have been a ZZ Top fan since I was 6 years old. I purchased ELIMINATOR vinyl from Caldors in Connecticut with the $20 my grandma gave me for my birthday. I will spare the #1 fan epic saga of tee shirts, harassing Noreen at the fan club via phone weekly for years, over 40 shows attended. Posters, non stop conversation about the time I have spent idolizing this band, but more Billy G, as he has seemed to break free of the Lone Wolf shackles and it became more clear this was his baby. In baseball I was Don Mattingly's #1 fan, Hershel Walker in football, Billy Gibbons in music. What do these individuals have in common? They were role models. Not a DUI, not a spousal abuse, not a drug overdose, not a cheater. Until I read your web page. I read Blayney's book around 1992 or so, I was in middle school and I was familiar with your name for a long time. I didn't realize you suffered so greatly or that your involvement was so significant. It pains me to learn my idol not only cheated but did something so wrong to another being. I now know this is where tall tales and fun loving bullshit and poor morals and ethics are distinguished and where I would no longer consider myself to look up to Billy. I love to joke and I love credit but I have always prided myself on ethics and principles... I hold them dear. I wanted to say, the snippet of UNDER PRESSURE you played sounded very new wave and I may like it more than the finished product. Well that's all. You have reached ZZ Top's biggest fan and I can let others know. Bummer. Cheers and good luck. James."

VINYLSTYLUS DOT COM: Much of Eliminator was recorded at 124bpm, the tempo that considered perfect for dance music by the band’s associate Linden Hudson. An aspiring songwriter, former DJ and – at the time – drummer Frank Beard’s house-sitter, Hudson’s involvement in the recording of the album would come back to haunt them. Despite assisting Gibbons with the pre-production and developing of the material that would end up on both El Loco and Eliminator, his contribution wasn’t credited when either record was released.

INFOMORY DOT COM: ‘Eliminator’ is a studio album of the American rock band ZZ Top. It was released on March 23, 1983 and topped the charts worldwide. Its lyrics were co-written by the band’s sound engineer Linden Hudson while the band denied it.

Coarse blocky soil structure with ped face coated with translocated clay. In this example; "many continuous prominent clay films on vertical faces of peds"

In blocky structure, the structural units are blocklike or polyhedral. Coarse or very coarse peds will almost always break down to smaller units. They are bounded by flat or slightly rounded surfaces that are casts of the faces of surrounding peds. Typically, blocky structural units are nearly equidimensional but may grade to prisms or plates. The structure is described as angular blocky if the faces intersect at relatively sharp angles; as subangular blocky if the faces are a mixture of rounded and plane faces and the corners are mostly rounded. Blocky structures are common in subsoil but also occur in surface soils that have a high clay content. The strongest blocky structure is formed as a result of swelling and shrinking of the clay minerals which produce cracks. Sometimes the surface of dried-up sloughs and ponds shows characteristic cracking and peeling due to clays.

Peds are aggregates of soil particles formed as a result of pedogenic processes; this natural organization of particles forms discrete units separated by pores or voids. The term is generally used for macroscopic (visible; i.e. greater than 1 mm in size) structural units when observing soils in the field. Soil peds should be described when the soil is dry or slightly moist, as they can be difficult to distinguish when wet.

Clay films (argillans). The "shiny" or "waxy" appearance on the faces of the ped are clay coatings (clay films). Clay films area thin coating of oriented clay on the surface of a soil aggregate or lining pores or root channels. Synonyms: clay coating, clay skin, argillan, or ferriargillan (if stained by iron), or organoargillan (if stained by organic matter).

Seminyak Beach and Petitenget Beach is a continuous expanse of grey sand stretching in both directions as far as the eye can see. To the south it becomes Legian Beach and then Kuta Beach, but is noticeably quieter than both. The sunsets here are famous, and opportunites abound to mix with the glitterati who frequent the high end beach front estalilshments such as Ku De Ta. Easy access points to the beach are at the end of Jalan Dhyana Pura, and from the large public car park (Rp 2,000) between Petitenget Temple and La Luciola restaurant.

Pura Petitenget at the beachside off Jl Petitenget is a compact, pretty Balinese temple, which is known for particularly spectacular beach-side ceremonies. There has been a temple here since at least the 16th century, and although this is not one of the key nine directional temples of Bali, it is an important link in the series of west coast temples between Pura Uluwatu and Pura Tanah Lot.

Seminyak Beach, jalan Raya Seminyak, . 24 hours. Seminyak Beach is a beautiful white sandy beach situated in north of Legian Beach. The white sand stretch 3 km from Tuban Area has made it as a fascination for tourist to visit this place. Seminyak Beach is favored by the great wave that is ideally for surfing adventures hence many surfers visit this beach to conquer the waves and enjoy the surf adventures. This beach is also featured by beautiful panorama to the Indian Ocean, the wide white sand, complete public facilities, the word class hotels, international restaurant and more. edit

Petitenget Beach, Jalan Petitenget,Krobokan,kuta utara, . There is a temple at this beach and called 'Pura Petitenget' that's why this beach is called Petitenget. With grey sand, the Petitenget Beach looks very mysterious, tourists rarely come to this beach only the local people come for swimming or playing. But, you still can see a beautiful sunset at this beach.

Samarkand is a city in southeastern Uzbekistan and among the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Central Asia. Samarkand is the capital of the Samarkand Region and a district-level city, that includes the urban-type settlements Kimyogarlar, Farhod and Khishrav. With 551,700 inhabitants (2021)] it is the third-largest city in Uzbekistan.

There is evidence of human activity in the area of the city dating from the late Paleolithic Era. Though there is no direct evidence of when Samarkand was founded, several theories propose that it was founded between the 8th and 7th centuries BC. Prospering from its location on the Silk Road between China, Persia and Europe, at times Samarkand was one of the largest cities in Central Asia, and was an important city of the empires of Greater Iran. By the time of the Persian Achaemenid Empire, it was the capital of the Sogdian satrapy. The city was conquered by Alexander the Great in 329 BC, when it was known as Markanda, which was rendered in Greek as Μαράκανδα. The city was ruled by a succession of Iranian and Turkic rulers until it was conquered by the Mongols under Genghis Khan in 1220.

The city is noted as a centre of Islamic scholarly study and the birthplace of the Timurid Renaissance. In the 14th century, Timur made it the capital of his empire and the site of his mausoleum, the Gur-e Amir. The Bibi-Khanym Mosque, rebuilt during the Soviet era, remains one of the city's most notable landmarks. Samarkand's Registan square was the city's ancient centre and is bounded by three monumental religious buildings. The city has carefully preserved the traditions of ancient crafts: embroidery, goldwork, silk weaving, copper engraving, ceramics, wood carving, and wood painting. In 2001, UNESCO added the city to its World Heritage List as Samarkand – Crossroads of Cultures.

Modern Samarkand is divided into two parts: the old city, which includes historical monuments, shops, and old private houses; and the new city, which was developed during the days of the Russian Empire and Soviet Union and includes administrative buildings along with cultural centres and educational institutions. On 15 and 16 September 2022, the city hosted the 2022 SCO summit.

Samarkand has a multicultural and plurilingual history that was significantly modified by the process of national delimitation in Central Asia. Many inhabitants of the city are native or bilingual speakers of the Tajik language, whereas Uzbek is the official language and Russian is also widely used in the public sphere, as per Uzbekistan's language policy.

Damascus is believed to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world and the Umayyad Mosque stands on a site that has been considered sacred ground for at least 3,000 years. The Umayyad Mosque, also known as the Grand Mosque of Damascus, is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world, being completed in 715 AD. The spot where the mosque now stands was a temple of Hadad in the Aramean era. The site was later a temple of Jupiter in the Roman era, then a Christian church dedicated to John the Baptist in the Byzantine era, before finally becoming a mosque.

A few pics from Continuous Worship Conference

Sir George Yeardley (1587–1627) was a plantation owner and three time colonial Governor of the British Colony of Virginia. A survivor of the Virginia Company of London's ill-fated Third Supply Mission, whose flagship, the Sea Venture, was shipwrecked on Bermuda for 10 months in 1609-10, he is best remembered for presiding over the initial session of the first representative legislative body in Virginia in 1619. With representatives from throughout the settled portion of the colony, the group became known as the House of Burgesses. It has met continuously since, and is known in modern times as the Virginia General Assembly.

Yeardley was baptized on July 28, 1588, in St. Saviour's Parish, Southwark, Surrey. He was the son of Ralph Yeardley (1549-1604), a London merchant-tailor, and Rhoda Marston (d. 1603). He chose not to follow his father into trade, but instead became a soldier and joined a company of English foot-soldiers to fight the Spanish in the Netherlands. As captain of a personal bodyguard, he was selected to serve Sir Thomas Gates during his term as Governor of Virginia.

Yardley set sail from England on June 1, 1609, with the newly appointed Gates aboard the Sea Venture, the flagship of the ill-fated Third Supply expedition to Jamestown. After eight weeks at sea, and seven days from expected landfall, the convoy ran into a tropical storm and the Sea Venture was shipwrecked in the Bermudas. Fortunately, everyone survived the storm. Despite numerous problems, including civil unrest among the former passengers resulting in Gates to declare martial law, two small ships were built within 10 months. The two ships,the 70-80 ton Deliverance and the 30 ton pinnace Patience', arrived at Jamestown on May 23, 1610.

The shipwreck survivors found the colonists of Jamestown in desperate condition. Most of the settlers had died from sickness or starvation, or had been killed by Indians. Sir Thomas Gates agreed with the Jamestown settlers to abandon the colony and return to England. He ordered Captain Yeardley to command his soldiers to guard the town preventing settlers from setting fire to the structures that were evacuated. Lord de la Warr soon arrived bringing supplies to save the struggling colony. Captain Yeardley was co-commander of the early Forts Henry and Charles at Kecoughtan. In October 1610, LORD DE LA WARR ordered Captain Yeardley and Captain Edward Brewster to lead 150 men into the mountains in search of silver and gold mines.

In 1616 Yeardley was designated Deputy-Governor of Virginia. One of his first accomplishments was to come to an agreement with the Chickahominy Indians that secured food and peace for two years. He served from 1616 to 1617. Yeardley was appointed Deputy-Governor again in 1625.

On 18 October 1618, Yeardley married Temperance Flowerdew, daughter of Anthony Flowerdew of Hethersett, County Norfolk, and his wife Martha Stanley of Scottow, County Norfolk. "Exactly a month later he was appointed to serve three years as governor of Virginia, and was knighted by James I during an audience at Newmarket on 24 November"[1]. Temperance Flowerdew had also sailed for Virginia in the 1609 expedition, aboard the Faulcon, arriving at Jamestown in August 1609[2]. She was one of the few survivors of the Starving Time.

In 1618, he patented 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) of land on Mulberry Island[3]. He owned another private plantation upriver on the south side of the James River opposite Weyanoke, named Flowerdew Hundred. It is often assumed that Yeardley named this plantation "Flowerdew Hundred" after his wife, as a kind of romantic tribute. However, the land appears to have been in use by Stanley Flowerdew, Yeardley's brother-in-law, before it was patented by Yeardley[4], so the plantation may have been associated with the Flowerdew name before Yeardley's patent. Note that Yeardley named his Mulberry Island plantation "Stanley Hundred", undoubtedly after his Stanley in-laws. In other words, both of Yeardley's plantations were named in honor of his wealthy in-laws.

Another Flowerdew relation, John Pory, served as Secretary to the colony from 1618-1622[7]. And when Flowerdew Hundred sent representatives to the first General Assembly in Jamestown in 1619, one was Ensign Edmund Rossingham, a son of Temperance Flowerdew's elder sister Mary Flowerdew and her husband Dionysis Rossingham. Clearly, the Yeardley-Flowerdew alliance was as much to do with power politics and social status as with romance.

With a population of about thirty, Flowerdew plantation was economically successful with thousands of pounds of tobacco produced along with corn, fish and livestock. In 1621 Yeardley paid 120 pounds (possibly a hogshead of tobacco) to build the first windmill in British America. The windmill was an English post design and was transferred by deed in the property’s 1624 sale to Abraham Piersey, a Cape Merchant of the London Company.

The plantation survived the 1622 onslaught of Powhatan Indians, losing only six people. It remained an active and fortified private plantation, unlike many others in the area such as the Citie of Henricus.

Yeardley led the first representative Virginia General Assembly, the legislative House of Burgesses, to meet on American soil. It convened at the church in Jamestown on July 30, 1619. One of the first acts of this representative body was to set the price of tobacco. Yeardley was appointed Deputy-Governor again in 1625. He served a second time as Governor from March 4, 1626/27 until his death on November 13, 1627. He is buried in the church at Jamestown, Virginia.

Yeardley married Temperance Flowerdew, daughter of Anthony Flowerdew and Martha Stanley. The couple had three children:

Elizabeth Yeardley (1615-1660).

Argoll Yeardley (1617-1655).

Francis Yeardley (1620-1655), "Upon reaching manhood he became quite prominent in the affairs of Virginia, being for some time a colonel of militia and in 1653 a member of the House of Burgesses for Lower Norfolk."

After Yeardley's death Temperance Flowerdew married Governor FRANCIS WEST.

Oaks Amusement Park Carousel World Wide Photo Walk Carousel 1912 "Herschell-Spillman" Carousel

Tucked away in Southeast Portland near the Sellwood Bridge is Oaks Amusement Park, one of the oldest continuously operated amusement parks in the United States.

Oaks Park is a modest amusement park located 3.5 miles (6 km) south of downtown Portland, Oregon, USA

"Today’s best estimates are that the figures were carved starting in 1912, by the Italian and German woodworkers at the Herschell–Spillman company’s offshoot, Spillman Engineering Corporation. “Our carousel was one of the last to have had its figures carved completely by hand,” Norling said proudly.

"Having survived repeated floods, and the theft of a figure in the 1970s, the Oaks Park Carousel was last refinished almost forty years ago — and has only been touched up since then. "

"“It hasn’t ever been restored like we did this time,” declared Norling, “Eight of our staff members took it apart to sand and hand-etch away layers of paint – taking each piece down to bare wood. Because they cleaned into the crevasses, you can really see the detail in the horses’ manes and eyes.”

Where necessary, workers repaired broken pieces, blending them in with the original wood, as they restored the historic carousel to its original grandeur.

The Oaks Park Carousel is recorded in the National Register of Historic Places, and is said to be one of only 200 classic carousels remaining in the world."

Interesting side note~

In carousels all over the world, there has always been the "favorite" animals to ride. This caused problems with small children all wanting a particular horse... So when Walt Disney put his Carousel in Disneyland... He made all the horses "white" to avoid the problem, and get people on faster so they could start the ride.

I spent 3 hours Saturday 7/24/10 getting to photograph a Carousel here in Portland Oregon, before the amusement park opened.

It was amazing.

Plants are in a continuous battle with hemipterans (sap sucking bugs which have a long proboscis which they stick into the plant and through the plant’s own pressure they fill up the bug with the sugary phloem (sap).).This has led to an evolutionary arms race. It is not only the purloining of precious, hard earned sugars which is hard to accept for the plants, but these bugs also carry a variety of pathogens which can be transmitted to the plant via their unauthorized visitations. So the plants have developed a variety of defences, both physical and chemical. One such method is the introduction of small peptides into their sap which upon contact with air solidify, gumming up the mouthparts of any insect, and serving the dual function of forming a scab over the cut surface preventing further infection. This has stopped some insects though others have found a way around this. Chemical deterrence is another route that some plants have gone down. Toxic alkaloids or indigestible peptides laced with the sought after foodstuffs is a popular strategy. Though some insects have not only found a way around this, but have even exploited it to their advantage! Monarchs for instance feed on the toxic milkweed. Not only do they not suffer from the toxic alkaloids present in the plant, but they accumulate it and use it to in a similar way, so that they become unpalatable to avian predators. Together with their aposematic colouration, birds have learned to avoid them. Neotropical insects have developed along similar lines. To further complicate matters you have ants. These are both protectors and little Benedict Arnolds, selling out to the highest bidder – where the currency is sugar of course. When you can’t beat them, farm them! Plants have a love/hate relationship with ants. They have developed extrafloral nectaries for the purpose of luring ants to defend them from parasites and predators.This strategy is so effective that many species even those that are exclusively predatory, like trapjaw ants (Odontomachus sp.), can be seen patrolling the leaves of nectary producing plants. Plants that haven't developed extrafloral nectaries may also lure ants unintentionally since even leafbuds can sometimes produce sugary water through the ‘breathing’ of the stomata. But ants go where the sugar is, and so sometimes if a plant has become host to hemipterans, then ants will simply farm these invaders and reap the sugary benefits to the detriment of the plants. The complex interrelationships make for interesting study! Ants aren’t too picky about what they farm as long as they get the honeydew in return. Found during a night hike in Iwokrama rainforest reserve.

Kilkea Castle was built in 1426 and is a claimant of the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Ireland (as does Malahide Castle.) Originally a motte and bailey was built here by Sir Walter de Riddlesford in 1181. His granddaughter married Maurice Fitzgerald, and so the Manor of Kilkea then came into the possession of the powerful Fitzgerald family. It remained in their possession for over 700 years until the 19th Earl of Kildare decided to make Carton House the family seat early in the 18th century. A famous story of the castle tells of the ‘The Wizard Earl’ who lived here in the 16th century. He was a colourful character who was fond of dabbling in magic tried. He tried to convince his wife of his powers and said he could turn her into a bird. He said if she got startled he would disappear for ever. As promised, The Earl turned into a bird and his wife showed indifference, until a cat wandered in and sprang for the bird. The wife screamed and The Wizard Earl disappeared forever but it is said that he returns a ghost to the same room every seven years on a white horse! The castle and estate was finally sold by the Fitzgerald family in the early 1960s but is now run as a golf course and hotel.

c1910 postcard view of the post office in Mooresville, Indiana. The Mooresville Post Office has been in continuous operation since 1826. The post office in this scene was on the north side of Main Street east of the Indiana Street. The limestone plaque at the top of the building identifies the opening year as 1909. The building is still there, but the post office isn’t.

The 1902 Sanborn™ fire insurance map for Mooresville shows the I. O. O. F. (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) Building on the northeast corner of the intersection at Main and Indiana streets. That is the brick building with the exterior stairway at the left edge of this postcard. The map set shows an upstairs balcony on the side of the building that may have been the entrance to the I. O. O. F. Hall. The lot next to that stairway was vacant and the post office was in a small wood frame building on the next lot east. The next Sanborn™ map set to be produced was the 1910 set. It shows the I. O. O. F. Building along with this new building and post office. The building next door, where the post office had been located, was an unspecified office in 1910.

Several potted plants were on display in the windows and a woman was watching from inside the post office. A mailbox was mounted on the front of the building beside the entrance.

Prague. The settlement of Prague and its surroundings was continuous from the early Palaeolithic until the Latenian period. With the arrival of the Celts, oppida began to appear, which were centres of settlement, administration, cults, manufacture, trade and also served as fortified strongholds. There is a school of thought that states that it was the Celtic Boj tribe that provided the basis for the name Bohemia. In the second half of the sixth century the first Slavonic tribes arrived. In the ninth century the ruling Přemyslid dynasty moved their family seat, thereby laying the foundation stone to this place with the role of the seat of the princely and later the Royal Czech lands. Prague is an important urban monument reservation. The historic core, 866 hectares in size, encompasses the unique city ensemble of the Prague Castle and Hradčany, Malá Strana (Lesser Side) including Karlův most (Charles Bridge), Staré Město (Old Town) with Josefov (the preserved section of the former Jewish Town), Nové Město (New Town), Vyšehrad and each of the monuments within these areas. It was inscribed in the UNESCO List in 1992.

After crossing through the Porta San Felice onto Via San Felice in Volterra, I saw to the left was an old fountain belonging to the site.

The Fonti San Felice.

These sources were built in 1319 but, during the restoration work carried out in 1979, many more ancient remains have come to light. A first phase of attendance is documented by some hut funds dating back to the 6th century. to. C .; near the source was found an Etruscan bronzetto that makes us assume the presence in this area of a place of worship dedicated to deities connected to water; moreover, from here one of the routes of communication with the territory had to start.

Near the door in the medieval walls there are also some square blocks that were part of the Etruscan walls and, incorporated in this structure, a portion of cloaca for the drainage of water, which crossed the walls at this point. Other hydraulic structures facing medieval sources indicate that this source was exploited even in Roman times. From here began a pipeline that supplied a cistern that served as a water reservoir for a lower-level spa; following the path that starts from the medieval postern we find the first one

cistern, now transformed into a warehouse for agricultural tools, and then the Roman baths of S. Felice.

Fonti di San Felice (Saint Felix Fountains): since 1319 in which important works were started and carried out, they have been subject to continuous inteventions aimed at using all the water that could have been gathered for drinking, watering and washing purposes and finally, during the second half of the 19th century, for therapeutic purposes.

In continuous operation by the same family since 1911. Winkleman, Arizona.

The Cemetery was begun by the Indian Corps (and in particular by the 2nd Leicesters) in November, 1914, and it was used continuously by Field Ambulances and fighting units until March, 1918. It passed into German hands in April, 1918, and after its recapture a few further burials were made in Plot IV in September and October. The grave of one Officer of the London Regiment was brought in in 1925 from a position on the Estaires-La Bassee road near "Port Arthur", and the 264 Portuguese graves of March, 1917 and April, 1919 were removed to Richebourg-L'Avoue Portuguese National Cemetery after the Armistice.
