These large beauties are rarely still, so when I came upon this one (early morning, in a field in Spain) I managed to sneak up on it without it flying off. Such beautiful colours and markings on them. After getting my shots I left it there to continue snoozing.

Continuing my Southern Arizona Adventure 2024 with a stop in Patagonia Arizona. This is stage 5 of 9. I met up with my best friend from high school who has retired here because of the birding. I stayed at the Stage Stop Inn and we ate at Velvet Elvis. Lamont Arthur entertained us with his original works on jazz piano.

And more than a place of food and drink, Velvet Elvis at La Misión is an experience of joy brought to life by whimsy and color—an allegory celebrating the area’s border culture and the owner herself.

HBM! Happy Bench Monday

Continuing our Cathedral/Minster UK tour...

Yesterday was Southwell Minster and Peterborough Cathedral.

Today is Ely Cathedral which is about 12miles North of Cambridge in the East of England.

The awe and wow factor went up again today!!

Amazing and beautiful place, such history too..

Today's visit includes a tower and roof tour more pictures later..

These four pictures show different perspectives of a huge building that is very hard to get a complete picture of!!

Have a read about it!

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ely_Cathedral

"The cathedral has its origins in AD 672 when St Etheldreda built an abbey church. The present building dates back to 1083, and it was granted cathedral status in 1109. Until the Reformation it was the Church of St Etheldreda and St Peter, at which point it was refounded as the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Ely, continuing as the principal church of the Diocese of Ely, in Cambridgeshire"

A wide view of Washburn Falls - not the most dramatic, but a beautiful spot on this wild river.

I was hoping that 5Q30 would continue its journey, having recessed at Branston, ahead of this. It didn't due to complications.

As this approached I couldn't help thinking about 'The Wichnor Curse' so labelled by Mike. As it was I was to spend the rest of the day with said individual following the taking of this shot.

Seabirds rest on the remains of a pier off Front Beach in Ocean Springs, in the state of Mississippi (in the Gulf Coast Region of the US), on a clear dawn in mid-October.

Ocean Springs is a small city located between the larger cities of Biloxi and Pascagoula, along the Mississippi Sound, sheltered from the open Gulf of Mexico by narrow barrier islands, particularly Deer Island (visible here in the right background). Perhaps best known as the home of artist Walter Inglis Anderson (1903-1965), today it draws other artists and art lovers, retirees, and those who appreciate its continuing feeling of a small town combined with cultural activities and restaurants-cafés representing a variety of cuisines.

On 29 August 2005, Ocean Springs suffered from Hurricane Katrina, especially the effects on its waterfront, where homes, park buildings, and piers were destroyed. Most, but not all, have subsequently been rebuilt.

Along and just off its shore can be seen fishing boats and sailboats; tourists and residents walking, jogging, or gazing at the water; and active seabirds.

Continuing my flowers as mask/make-up series. This time focusing on red. First time working with this model and what a fun creative experience it was. Her fire red hair was a perfect compliment to the red flowers.

Sunday is probably my favourite weekday, because I listen to CBC radio with Michael Enright in the morning, turn on the fire, look at my plants, hold my Birdie, and often work on my paintings. I am doing a series of paintings of reflections in water, and learning so much in that process of discovery. Willow's walk comes after all of this today, but she is always a priority. I hope all of you are enjoying Sunday.

A few days ago I posted a photograph of a neighbor's purple iris. That was the day I encountered a "wild" hog. Today, while being involved in a calf roundup, I met the owner of the "wild" hog. He happened to be in the area when some wayward calves needed to get back to their mothers. He stopped to help. As we talked, I learned that he recently had a a hog get out - "first time in three years." Hmmm. Yes, he raises hogs. He assured me they are all back where they should be and I do not need to be on high alert for "wild" hogs in our neck of the woods. White Iris - Morgan County, Alabama - 2015.

Noun: the continuing and spreading results of an event or action. You guessed it, the Derwent ferry from Surprise View at 300mm. Any easy one to shoot and process

It was about half a year ago when started this project and sadly motivation has not been increasing every month that have past.

I'm quite happy with front but the when the comes to the back I'm completely lost right now.

Should I continue for probably six more months or should I take it apart and build more smaller veichles like a hornet?

Continuing with my photoshoot with Annette...

We switched the setup a bit to do some low-key portraits.

Some technical things got me a bit annoyed: why was I getting such a sharp transition from light to dark across her forehead (in this photo, it is more pronounced than in the others I've posted)? Why did my "gray" muslin come out with a purple cast (if I set the white balance to make it gray, Annette comes up looking a bit green). Speaking of white balance, why is it so far off the flash gun's manufacturer's claims of color temperatures?

Strobist info: Yongnuo 560ii through 48" octabox high camera left, foamcore reflector camera right, Youngnuo 560ii through small grid high camera left behind model as accent light, wrinkly gray muslin as backdrop.

Sorry for being so silent lately. I have been hiding myself in books and work. Don´t worry - just need the rest while it is dark and outdoor is not attractive to take pictures ...

Natural Woman (Eva Cassidy)

Some people have asked how I got the ground level angle on some of these shots: i am shooting with a 12-24mm wide angle lens virtually assuring i will fill the frame if i am close enough without having to look through the camera (the D1x does not have a viewing screen). I just put the camera down on the pavement or hold it at arms length which also has the benefit of drawing the dogs attention to the lens....because most were shot at the 12 mm setting I am generally within two feet of the dog/people.

& I continue to get many questions about the post processing effect I use (overuse) at times: it is a photoshop plug in filter from www.lucisart.com originally developed for hard science and criminology applications. The algorithms manipulate saturation, contrast, sharpness, brightness to maximize detail. you can go to their website and mess around to see the effect with your own images. Try the 'Wyeth" algorithm....the thing is you have to toss it back into photoshop and take down the brightness, sometimes boost contrast and then dodge and burn to make the image to look 'right'...i tend to use the filter on web posted images, rarely or conservatively on prints....just like vividness and detail when it comes to low res posts....have fun

Continuing my 'Toy-ronto Life' and 'Little Planets' series...

I watched the full moon of December known as Full Cold Moon on the early morning a couple of days ago. The moon was setting and the sun was rising opposite each other - it was one of those magic moments when celestial bodies are having a rendezvous!

I loved how the sunlight played on the buildings while moon was peeking through the cityscape. ...I thought to myself that it'll be perfect for my planetary magic with some bits of texture spells :-)

Happy mid-week!

UPDATE: This Toronto Planet image was chosen as Photo of the Day on Dec 11, 2014 at "Toronto Is Awesome"! Whoo-hoo :-)

www.torontoisawesome.com/the-arts/photography/daily-flick...

The Series 62 was a series of cars produced by Cadillac from 1940 through 1964 (when it was renamed the Cadillac Calais, continuing on under that badge until 1976). Originally designed to replace the entry level Series 65, it became the Series 6200 in 1959, and remained that until the change to Calais five years later.

For 1948, the Series 62 was moved to the same 126 in (3,200 mm) chassis as the Series 61, making the vehicles virtually identical. The main difference, apart from extra chrome, was the availability of a convertible model. Distinguishing features included grooved bright metal front fender gravel guards, rocker panel brightwork, chevron style chrome shlashes below taillights and slightly richer interior trim. Also in 1948 the first tail fins were added. Sales fell to 34,213, nevertheless accounting for a record 68% of all Cadillacs sold.

The new Cadillac OHV V8 was the big news for 1949, with minor trim differences otherwise. This 331 cu in (5.4 L) engine produced 160 hp (119 kW).The major difference between Series 61 and Series 62 models of similar body style was minor trim variations. The higher-priced series again had grooved, front fender stone shields and bright rocker panel moldings. Chevrons below the taillights were no longer seen. The convertible was an exclusive offering. A heater was optional.

Sales reached a record 55,643.

The Cadillac Series 62 Coupe de Ville was introduced late in the 1949 model year. Along with the Buick Roadmaster Riviera, and the Oldsmobile 98 Holiday, it was among the first pillarless hardtop coupes ever produced. At $3,496 it was only a dollar less than the Series 62 convertible, and like the convertible, it came with power windows standard. It was luxuriously trimmed, with leather upholstery and chrome 'bows' in the headliner to simulate the ribs of a convertible top.

For 1950, major styling changes were performed. The cars were lower and sleeker, with longer hoods, and one-piece windshields were fitted. Hydramatic transmission was now standard. The Series 61 was again a short wheelbase model, having been reduced to 122 in (3099 mm).

Sales set yet another record at 59,818.

Full-length chrome rocker panels set off the 1951 model, and the Coupe de Ville was now marked with noticeably-improved trim, including Coupe de Ville script on the rear roof pillar. Sales were 81,844, or a record of over 74% of all Cadillacs sold. Popular Mechanics reported about 20 mpg at 45mph.

In 1952, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cadillac, the V-shaped hood and deck emblems were done as gold castings. The Series 62 sedan was also characterized by a higher rear deck lid contour. This provided additional luggage space. Back up lights were now standard equipment and were incorporated in the taillights. The grille wraparound panels were redesigned once again having broad chrome trim below each headlight with side scoop styling and gold-colored winged emblem mounted in the center. At the rear all Cadillacs adopted a through the bumper dual exhaust system. Deck ornamentation took the form of a Cadillac crest over abroad golden "V". New standard features included self-winding clocks, improved direction signal indicators, glare proof mirrors, stannate treated pistons, and four barrel carburetion. Engine output for the 331 was up to 190 hp (142 kW). Sales fell to 70,255, but with the Series 61 out of the way, Series 62 sales accounted for a record 78% of all Cadillacs.

The 1953 Series 62 saw a redesigned grille with heavier integral bumper and bumper guards, the repositioning of parking lamps directly under the headlights, chrome "eybrow" type headlamp doors, and one piece rear windows without division bars. Wheel discs were fashioned in an attractive new disced design. Series 62 bodystyles were identified by non louvered rear fenders, the use of thin bright metal underscores on the bottom rear of the cars only and the decoration of both hood and deck lid with Cadillac crests and V- shaped ornaments. The Club Coupe model disappeared. Two door Series 62 were now all hardtops (including the better equipped Coupe de Ville) or convertibles. Another familiar name appeared on 1953's Series 62. The top of the line subseries Eldorado was one of three specialty convertibles produced in 1953 by General Motors, the other two being the Oldsmobile 98 Fiesta and the Buick Roadmaster Skylark. The Eldorado was a limited-edition luxury convertible, and would eventually become its own series. It featured a full assortment of deluxe accessories, including wire wheels, and introduced the wraparound windshield to Cadillac standard production.

Sales set a new record at 85,446.

Continuing East, we stopped near Pawnee, OK to shoot a Stillwater Central Topeka cab Geep but it was heavily vandalized and buried by trees and weeds.

At Sand Springs we noticed a switcher in a Lumber Yard, probably a Sand Springs Railway engine but looked like you had to trespass to shoot it.

At Sapulpa, we heard nothing on the scanner and didn't see any action as we drove around town.

The only thing we took a picture of was Morehead & South Fork/Gulf & Ohio SW1200 #1201 (ex-TP, MP) that hasn't been used in awhile.

The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries throughout the Second World War.

The Spitfire continued to be used as a front line fighter and in secondary roles into the 1950s. It was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft and was the only British fighter in continuous production throughout the war.

The Spitfire was designed as a short-range, high-performance interceptor aircraft by R. J. Mitchell, chief designer at Supermarine Aviation Works (which operated as a subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrong from 1928). Mitchell continued to refine the design until his death from cancer in 1937, whereupon his colleague Joseph Smith became chief designer. Where speed was seen as essential to carrying out the mission of home defence against enemy bombers, the Spitfire's thin cross-section elliptical wing allowed it a higher top speed than several contemporary fighters, including the Hawker Hurricane.

During the Battle of Britain (July–October 1940), the Spitfire was perceived by the public as the RAF fighter, though the more numerous Hawker Hurricane shouldered a greater proportion of the burden against the Luftwaffe. The Spitfire units had a lower attrition rate and a higher victory-to-loss ratio than those flying Hurricanes.

After the Battle of Britain, the Spitfire became the backbone of RAF Fighter Command, and saw action in the European, Mediterranean, Pacific and the South-East Asian theatres. Much loved by its pilots, the Spitfire served in several roles, including interceptor, photo-reconnaissance, fighter-bomber, carrier-based fighter, and trainer. It was built in many variants, using several wing configurations.

Although the original airframe was designed to be powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine producing 768 kW, it was adaptable enough to use increasingly powerful Merlin and later Rolls-Royce Griffon engines producing up to 1,520 kW.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

1 Photo exhibition up to that point. Did you want to go?

2 Well, what is an exhibition that you want to visit even if you go there?

3 Challenge to exhibit one work every month before opening a solo exhibition at the Harajuku Design Festa.

4 works are materials and silhouettes. Similar to fashion.

5 Who is your favorite artist? What is it? Make it clear.

6 Creating a collage is exactly the same as taking photos. As I wrote in the interview, it is the same as writing a novel.

7 I want to show it to someone, but I do not make a piece to show it. Aim for the work you want to decorate your own room as in the photo.

8 What is copycat? Nowadays, it is suspected to be beaten. There is something called Mimesis?

Continuing my walk around Bradninch.

Following on from Yesterday's post another couple of shots from my visit to BWBG

Continuing with photos from my older archives and more recent archives. I desperately need to make more room on my computer, so I am very, very slowly going through some old photo folders before deleting them. As I do so, I grab a few old photos to post.

November 21, 2024: our winter weather continues, with more snow and fairly cold days. Before too long, I am going to have to make myself go out! I keep putting it off, day after day. Can't complain, though, as mild, fall weather lasted well into November, which was wonderful.

I will add the description that I wrote under a different, previously posted image taken on the same date.

"After two dreary days of rain, the sun finally broke through the clouds yesterday afternoon, so I decided to take a short drive SW of the city and see if I could see Mountain Bluebirds and Wilson's Snipe. These are two of my favourite birds to photograph and I was lucky to see both. However, one of my usual pair of Bluebirds was nowhere to be seen and instead, a Tree Swallow was looking out of the Bluebirds' nesting box. I did get a distant glimpse of a Bluebird and managed one quick shot, but when I looked at the photo when I got home, I saw that this male had a metal band on its leg. So, unless it had just been banded in the last couple of days, it was a different bird from the one in many of my photos. I didn't see much else during this drive, and just the usual. Felt so good to be out in sunshine, though. Pam, nice to bump into you, too!"

Snipe are one of my absolute favourite birds to see and photograph.

"These plump, long-billed birds are among the most widespread shorebirds in North America. They can be tough to see thanks to their cryptic brown and buff coloration and secretive nature. But in summer they often stand on fence posts or take to the sky with a fast, zigzagging flight and an unusual “winnowing” sound made with the tail." From AllAboutBirds.

www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/wilsons_snipe/id

"Wilson's Snipe (Gallinago delicata) is a small, stocky shorebird. This species was considered to be a subspecies of the Common Snipe (G. gallinago) until 2003 when it was given its own species status. Wilson's Snipe differs from the latter species in having a narrower white trailing edge to the wings, and eight pairs of tail feathers instead of the typical seven of the Common Snipe. Its common name commemorates the American ornithologist Alexander Wilson." From Wikipedia.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilson's_snipe

According to Fisher and Acorn's book, "Birds of Alberta", "the common Snipe is both secretive and well camouflaged, so few people notice it until it flushes suddenly from a nearby grassy tussock. As soon as the Snipe takes to the air, it performs a series of quick zigzags - an evasive maneuver designed to confuse predators. Because of this habit, Snipes were among the most difficult birds to shoot (in the days when shorebirds were hunted for sport), and skilled sportsmen were known as "snipers" - a term later adopted by the military."

Continuing my walk around this lovely little lake in the Vosges mountains.

Schweiz / Tessin - Höhenweg Monte Tamaro - Monte Lema

Lake Lugano

Luganer See

A spectacular hike suspended between civilization and uncivilized valleys

The Monte Tamaro – Monte Lema mountain trail is one of the most beautiful hikes of Switzerland. The spectacular view during the whole hike extends itself over Ticino, Valais and Italy.

Alpe Foppa is the starting point of this trail which sees its first conquest when reaching the summit of Monte Tamaro at 1,962 m a.s.l after about an hour of hiking. It is absolutely worth the effort as you are rewarded with a magnificent view and it is the beginning of a not too demanding up and down hike along the crest of the mountain. The hike passes through peaks, slopes, and alpine pastures to reach Monte Lema, in Malcantone (1,620 m a.s.l). During the entire route, the view widens to the north over Lake Maggiore, Centovalli, Verzasca, Vallemaggia, Locarno and Bellinzona, while you can see Lugano, with its valleys and lake to the south. The most majestic peaks of the Alps, such as Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn, also stand out.

Departing from Alpe Foppa, we recommend you continue until the summit of Monte Tamaro. There is also a path which undergoes the summit and accordingly shortens the route by about half an hour, hereby losing the unique view offered by walking over the summit. It is also possible to avoid the passage to the summit of Monte Gradiccioli, opting for a flat but less scenic variant.

(montetamaro.ch)

Monte Tamaro is a mountain of the Lugano Prealps, overlooking Lake Maggiore in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Reaching a height of 1,962 metres above sea level, it is the highest summit of the chain located between Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano, which also includes Monte Lema. It is also the most prominent summit of the canton.

(Wikipedia)

Lake Lugano (Italian: Lago di Lugano or Ceresio, from Latin: Ceresius lacus; Lombard: Lagh de Lugan) is a glacial lake which is situated on the border between southern Switzerland and northern Italy. The lake, named after the city of Lugano, is situated between Lake Como and Lago Maggiore. It was cited for the first time by Gregory of Tours in 590 with the name Ceresio, a name which is said to have derived from the Latin word cerasus, meaning cherry, and refers to the abundance of cherry trees which at one time adorned the shores of the lake. The lake appears in documents in 804 under the name Laco Luanasco.

There are various mountains and tourist destinations on the shores of the lake including Monte Brè to the east, Monte San Salvatore west of Lugano, and Monte Generoso on the south-eastern shore. The World Heritage Site Monte San Giorgio is situated south of the lake. Also located to the south is the Cinque Vette Park.

The lake is drained by the Tresa, which empties into Lake Maggiore, the latter being drained by the Ticino and the Po.

History

The first certain testimony of a political body governing the shores of the lake is from 818. Occupying an area of strategic importance, the lake was then part of the feudal dominion of the County of Sperio. Circa 1000, it came under the control of the Bishop of Como. The region was the site of the war between Como and Milan over control of Alpine traffic from 1218 to 1227. As the lake and its shores became progressively incorporated into the Duchy of Milan they became the subject of political and territorial contention during the 15th century, and Lugano became the lake's main town.

The lake definitively ceased to belong to a single sovereign political entity following the establishment of the transalpine bailiwicks of the Swiss cantons at the beginning of the 16th century. The Italian-Swiss border was fixed in 1752 by the Treaty of Varese, and has since remained virtually unchanged.

In 1848, the Melide causeway was built on a moraine between Melide and Bissone, in order to carry a road across the lake and provide a direct connection between Lugano and Chiasso. Today the causeway also carries the Gotthard railway and the A2 motorway.

Geography

The lake is 48.7 km2 (18.8 sq mi) in size, 63% of which is in Switzerland and 37% in Italy. It has an average width of roughly 1 km (0.62 mi) and a maximum width of about 3 km (1.9 mi) at the bay of Lugano. A maximum depth of 288 m (945 ft) is found in the northern basin. The culminating point of the lake's drainage basin is the Pizzo di Gino summit in the Lugano Prealps (2,245 m; 7,365 ft).[3] Bathing in the lake is allowed at any of the 50 or so bathing establishments located along the Swiss shores.

The Italian exclave of Campione d'Italia and parts of the waters of the lake are considered by European Customs Law as non-territorial for fiscal purposes and as such enjoy a special tax status as a duty-free area, exemption from EU VAT and offer residents other advantageous tax privileges.

The Melide causeway separates the northern (27.5 km2; 10.6 sq mi) and southern (21.4 km2; 8.3 sq mi) basins, although a bridge in the causeway permits water flow and navigation. The lake retention time is an average of 8.2 years; that of the northern basin (11.9 years) is considerably higher than the southern one (2.3 years).

Navigation

The lake is navigable, and used by a considerable number of private vessels. Passenger boats of the Società Navigazione del Lago di Lugano (SNL) provide services on the lake, principally for tourist purposes, but also connecting Lugano with other lakeside communities, some of which have no road access.

Fishery in the lake (and Lake Maggiore) is regulated by a 1986 agreement between Switzerland and Italy. The current agreement on navigation dates from 1992.

Pollution

Pollution has long been a problem in Lake Lugano. In the 1960s and 1970s it was officially forbidden to bathe in the lake.[6] Despite the continued introduction of sewage treatment plants, such as in Gandria, factors, such as lake retention time and lack of oxygen and increasing phosphorus concentrations, means it is unclear if the lake will recover.

The Federal Office for the Environment's last published report on Lake Lugano dates from 1995. To summarise that report:

at that time measurements indicated some improvement, but this was unlikely to continue at the same pace

there were almost permanent polluted layers at the bottom of the very deep lake

oxygen was scarce and could not be found below 100 m (330 ft) depth

as a result phosphorus levels were increasing at this depth

phosphorus levels in the northern basin were six times too high and in the southern basin twice too high

will take many decades to clean

the lake could be said to be "chronically sick"

in the Italian part of the lake only 20% of the population were connected to sewage treatment plants with phosphorus filters (not that all Swiss areas were connected either).

The Swiss-Italian organisation CIPAIS in its most recent published report says:

Considering the results obtained in 2009 it can be affirmed that, notwithstanding the observed improvement, Lake Lugano is still in a state of high eutrophication, the highest among Swiss lakes.

The Italian environmental group Legambiente, in its 2007 study of all northern Italian lakes, found Lake Lugano to be the most polluted of all.

All water samples were well beyond the legal limits. The polluted sites should not be bathed in for health reasons. Bacteria can cause in the worst case, skin infections, diarrhoea and vomiting.

According to Legambiente, the only reason swimming was not banned on the Italian Lakes was because the state of Lombardy changed the law. They state that pollution levels in the lakes do not conform to European rulings and the lack of sewage treatment is illegal.

Their 2010 measurements found samples taken at Ponte Tresa, Osteno and Porto Ceresio to be "heavily polluted" (more than 1,000 UFC/100 ml intestinal enterococci and/or greater than 2000 UFC/100 ml E. coli).

Fauna

The lake is full of fish. Apart from a few protected areas, such as the mouth of the River Cuccio in Porlezza, fishing is allowed anywhere, although according to various regulations. Protected species are the bleak and the white clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes). The bleak is almost extinct here, unlike in Lago Maggiore, and planning is under way for the controlled repopulation of the lake, particularly around Ponte Tresa.

In 1895 the brook trout was introduced from Lake Zug, while between 1894 and 1897 the common whitefish was introduced. Since 1950 attempts have been made to introduce the whitefish Coregonus macrophthalmus from Lake Neuchâtel, but it has not established itself effectively.

The Common Roach is present in large numbers and took around ten years to colonise the entire lake, thereby replacing the bleak. Still present are the European chub, tench, carp and a few examples of European perch, largemouth bass, zander and burbot. Recently the wels catfish and pigo have been spotted.

Fossils

The whole area behind the southern shores of Lake Lugano is rich in fossils. The focal point of these fossil deposits is Monte San Giorgio, where since the 19th century many fossils have been found dating from the mid-Triassic (around 220 million years ago). The deposits on Monte San Giorgio stretch towards the west into Italian territory and the deposits of Besano. Fossils dating from the early Jurassic (around 180 million years ago) have also been found along the southern shores but more towards the east and Osteno.

continuing the search of the archives for the ones that got away - a mad hatter in bath

After leaving the short break near Valence we continued south and encountered near Montelimar a lengthy uphill stretch that caused SMS 352 to overheat.

We were to have a few more such issues but thankfully, for a bus type known for overheating, it was probably due to the constant low temperatures that such instances didn`t occur more often. It would also be fair to say that relentless climbing responsible for an overheat problem would very likely affect more than one bus and there was only so much precautionary water we could carry due to having a limited supply of suitable containers to put it in. The bottles of cola and lemonade that had been provided for us became very useful not just for additional water storage but as a much more accurate means of filling a bus tank as opposed to trying to hold a big drum in position without wasting a precious resource when a means of refilling wasn`t nearby. Such as at the side of the road up a hill in the middle of nowhere!

Looking at this picture, I`m really wondering where the hell I must have been standing as I can`t imagine it was on a bit of level ground!

Last week I took an old camera from the 70s, loaded it with a roll of HP5 and went downtown to see what I can do with a vintage camera (and also to test if it is still working). I am quite happy with some of the first pictures. I think I will continue this way to improve. It was lots of fun go back to the basics and use that little camera (Canonet QL17 GRIII).

As a directional sign this seemed a little redundant as the path was so obvious. I did like it against the sky though

Really trying to get that galaxy, but post is probably overdone.

India is still under a huge pall of Covid 19 pandemic with the highest death and infection fevers. People are not dying so much because of the disease but because of lack of facilities and non vaccination of the populace. Democracy skews sometimes and brings forth leaders who are popular but are totaly unfit to think rationally.

Continuing this series on the Elephant at Work in one of the Saw Mills in Fort Kochi.

The tiny shifts and maneuvers that the elephant makes to move such heavy loads is a case in point in this series. The deft way with which the trunk is being used to pull the tree can be seen here. Not much body effort either.

The elephant is a gentle giant and has been to a certain extent used extensively in Kerala for ceremonial parades for Hindu temples.

The non temple elephants also work on per hour basis in timber yards moving tree trunks, stacking and unstacking.

Other than that elephants used to be the bulwark of the armies of the Indian kings as they fought off the invasions coming from the Khyber Pass into the rich fertile plains of India. That worked for some time but then the horses and guns changed that.

This was taken yesterday, but remains an accurate representation today. My COVID test this morning came out positive, which didn't surprise me. So another week-ish of isolation at home.

One week in -- my symptoms first appeared Sunday night, May 1 -- I'm noticing the fatigue more. And I don't like.
