Continuing my Southern Arizona Adventure 2024 with a stop in Tubac, AZ. This is stage 3 of 9. This is a place I plan on revisiting.

I toured the Presidio of Tubac and the Museum. As I turned a corner in the Museum, I was pleasantly surprised to see this Tallit (Jewish Prayer Shawl). This is a very nice and ornate example. Jews played important roles in the development of the State of Arizona.

ChatGPT says:

Tubac, Arizona, is a charming town rich in history and culture. Founded in the 18th century, it began as a Spanish presidio and later became a hub for artists and artisans. Today, Tubac is known for its vibrant arts scene, featuring galleries, studios, and shops showcasing local artwork and crafts.

The Tubac Presidio State Historic Park offers a glimpse into the area's past, with preserved ruins and exhibits that highlight its significance in Arizona's history. Visitors can explore the beautiful desert landscape, enjoy outdoor activities, and participate in various festivals and events throughout the year.

The town's blend of history, art, and natural beauty makes it a unique destination for those looking to experience the spirit of the Southwest. Whether you're interested in exploring its historical sites or indulging in the local arts, Tubac offers something for everyone.

Haiku thoughts:

Old adobe walls stand,

Artists' dreams in sunlight bloom,

Tubac's heart beats on.

Southern Arizona Adventure 2024

Although what is known about what’s happening in Syria is War and destruction, but we still protest and demand what we asked for since day one. We still stand up and speak every time we get a chance. Our most important need is still freedom from the Assad regime and its Russian & Iranian allies. We still shout our lungs out and sing for all the people that sacrificed their lives to reach our dreams since 2011. We continue and will continue protesting until we achieve what we ask for, we won’t forgot what made us start our revolution.

Shortly after pulling myself away from the first scenic stop, Big Badlands Overlook, I continued on the Badlands Loop Road and soon encountered this wonderful broken landscape. This one is for Totally Texture Tuesday.

Continuing the series of neo 90s space factions.

The Spyrius robot has no modifications because to me it's one of the absolute best minifigs Lego ever produced (my other favourites - Merlin/Majisto, Wolfpack, the original 80s Peasant, the original 80s Blacksmith, Red and White Classic Space, and Ice Planet 2002 figures).

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Explanation of composition. 2

I used the following cameras.

Nikon coolpix 8700

I defeated two of these cameras.

It was a very nice camera.

I took many photos with this camera.

Today's photo.

It was also taken with this camera.

I explained the composition in detail in the text at the time of shooting.

I have taken a lot of pictures until today.

Among them, this photo is the result of sharpening my sensitivity.

I will explain this composition in a video.

But they are all Japanese.

Is there a Japanese beside you?

Is there anyone who can understand Japanese beside you?

Please have them translate.

I leave an important story about composition.

I hope they will reach many people.

Continuing with pictures from the trip to Canada. Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta.

07.06.22. The Transbus Trident with President body is a type which has never featured in the Stagecoach Yorkshire fleet, but examples continue to operate into Doncaster and Rotherham from the group's Worksop depot. This bus began life with Stagecoach's Oxford operation. It was photographed in Wood Street, Doncaster, at the start of the 1220 journey to Worksop via Bawtry, Harworth, Oldcotes, Langold and Carlton-in-Lindrick on service 21. Only a few buses of this type have appeared in the group's current livery, and they are probably among the oldest buses to do so. (Photo taken 7 Jun 2022, posted 21 Jun 2022)

Continuing on with the agriculture theme, this was one of the last shots I took before the sun set and the light was gone. It's amazing just how dark and quiet everything gets in rural farm country when the sun is gone for the day! At the beginning of the tour I was able the climb up to the top of the silo in this photo and take a few shots from 60' up. This farm has been in the family for several generations and is very precious to them, I hope my photos represent it well...

I used a couple different techniques to achieve the final look. I created additional exposures through the RAW editor in CS5 then used Topaz DeNoise on each exposure followed by adding back some sharpening. The exposures were put in the Photomatix blender and I used the resulting image as my base. Addition single exposures were run through NIK software's HDR Efex 2 then portions were blended/masked into the base image as necessary. Lots of filtering from NIK's Color Efex 3 & 4 were brushed in (especially the polarizer, glamor glow and tonal contrast filters) to add and subtract light and detail where needed. After a couple hours of tinkering I had had enough and this was the result!

I changed the upload date just to tell you that this serie continues here.

Starting from these words of wisdom:

"If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other."

-Mother Teresa-

You don't have to travel to some remote mountain retreat in order to experience peace. You don't have to convince all the other people in your life to be peaceful in order to experience peace. You don't need to resolve every conflict before you can experience a deep and abiding sense of peace. You don't have to solve every problem in your life before you can enjoy being at peace.

To experience peace is very simple and always available to you. To experience peace, gently let go of all else and allow peace to fill your awareness. Peace is always there, ready for you whenever you choose to let it be a part of your life. Choose often to fill your moments with peace and the positive power will resonate throughout your whole life.

Peace requires no special preparations or conditions. Peace asks only that you allow yourself to fully know and experience it. The more you experience peace, the more you'll want to express and to spread it in all that you do.

Let peace continue to fill you, and it will soon overflow into the world in which you live.

Chad Davis Photography: Minneapolis Uprising

A stick cracked to my left, sounding like a deafening yell in the serene silence of the forest.

I stopped, holding absolutely still, and was rewarded with the heart-warming sight of a doe and her calf making their way through the woods.

Smiling, I continued on my way after they passed, heading more or less in the vague direction of Durrough.

I had ditched the wagon several miles and two nights back, after coming to the realization that if someone was hunting me, it probably wasn’t the best idea to travel out in the open, driving a conspicuous wagon. Now, I was on foot, going through some of the more difficult, less traveled paths through the eastern-most portion of the Wandering Woods. It would take longer to reach my destination, but it would also draw less attention to myself, thus making it worth the longer journey.

Squaring my shoulders, I forged onwards.

————————————

The next morning,

I awoke to something sharp jabbing into my back from beneath my bedroll. Groaning, I rolled over, and extracted……a rock.

Muttering in disgust, I threw the rock aside, and groggily disentangled myself from my cloak, which had been serving as my blanket, climbing to my feet with an audible cracking of joints.

“Well,” I said to no-one in particular, “Time to start the day I guess.”

I had killed a small rabbit with my crossbow last night, and I cooked him up now, along with a few edible greens I found near my campsite.

After breakfast, I packed up my bedroll, checked to make sure I still had that sealed letter, gathered my things, and kicked out the fire.

Then, I headed off in the same direction as yesterday. I estimated I only had another day at most before I reached Durrough. Fortified by this, (as well as that rabbit), I set off for another day of hiking.

Little did I know today was not going to be like the days before it.

————————————

A few hours later, I stopped for a rest, and possibly lunch, if I could find some game large enough to make a meal out of.

Making sure my crossbow was loaded, I began to stealthily advance through the woods, keeping a sharp eye out for prey. I spotted a couple of squirrels, but neither one was large enough to warrant taking a shot at.

Watching the second one run off, I detected movement out of the corner of my eye. Moving slowly, so as not to scare whatever it was, I turned towards the spot I saw movement from.

Expecting to find a deer, or even better, a wild hog, I was shocked to discover it was a BEAR!

I froze. The bear was staring right at me, not moving either.

As the seconds dragged on in our stand-off, I realized this wasn’t just any bear, it was a grizzly bear!

And to make matters worse, it was a very hungry-looking grizzly bear.

Keeping my eyes fixed on the bear, I began to slowly back away, taking micro-steps so as not to startle it into action. After a few steps, the bear began to move forward, as I moved back.

That was definitely not what I wanted the bear to do, and I realized this was not going to end peacefully.

Just as I was coming to this conclusion, the bear charged.

Given less then a second to react, I dropped and rolled to the side, feeling a rush of air as the bear breezed by. Rolling to my feet, I saw the bear stop and start to turn around, for another go at me. Pre-empting this, I turned and ran, as fast as my legs would carry me, hearing the bear charging up behind me.

Now, I know that everyone says the stupidest thing you can do when facing a bear is run, but A; not everyone is me, and B; I wasn’t trying to outrun the bear, I just needed a few seconds to get my shot, pardon the pun.

As I ran, I checked hastily that my crossbow was still loaded, and, finding it was, judged that the bear was too caught up in chasing me to slow down or avoid this, whipped around, bringing the crossbow to my shoulder, sighted, and pulled the trigger.

The bolt flew seemingly in slow motion, as the bear charged at me, straight into the grizzly’s right eye, killing him instantly.

The bear’s momentum kept his body moving forward, even as it started to hit the ground, forcing me to quickly step to the side, to avoid getting pinned as the corpse slid to a stop where I had been standing moments before.

I staggered against a nearby tree, sliding to the ground with my back against the trunk, staring at the bear’s corpse, feeling the adrenaline from my near-death experience pumping through my veins, and my breath coming in ragged bursts.

It was then, sitting on forest floor, waiting for my body to clam down, that the sound of rushing water penetrated my senses. I got up, and, turning around, surveyed my surroundings, which I hadn’t even registered yet.

My jaw dropped.

Hardly believing my eyes, I stepped out of the tree line.

I was on the bank of a river, that forked around the spit of land I was standing on. Both ends of the river wound away through the trees.

Directly across from me was the source of this river;

A magnificent (although not very large) waterfall, pouring majestically down the side of sheer rock face. The sound of it filled the air, which was the sound I had noticed minutes ago.

The rock face the waterfall poured over continued beyond to the right, slowly curving outward.

A huge old oak tree grew near this face, on the opposite bank. Over on my side, a large pile of boulders sat jumbled to my right, a tree growing up from their midst.

The whole area was overflowing with bright colors and abundant flora and fauna.

Looking around, I felt at peace for the first time in several days.

Putting down my crossbow, I flopped in the grass with a grateful sigh, content just to lay there in the soft grass for awhile.

As I lay there, I tried to come up with a suitable name for this hidden gem of the forest. Nothing I tried sounded right, and it wasn’t until I sat up and took another look at the place that the perfect name popped into my head.

“Heaven’s Lagoon,” I said out loud, trying it out. It fit perfectly.

It was then, as I was sitting there, enjoying the feeling of having this beautiful place all to myself, plus the fact I had just named it, when I noticed something I had missed before. Or maybe it hadn’t been there before, because I never missed anything.

Almost directly across from me was a cave.

As I stared at it, trying to figure out why I hadn’t seen it the first time I looked over there, I began to feel a strange sensation. It felt like the cave was calling to me, inviting and drawing me in.

That should have been more than enough warning to not go in the cave, but I had never been able to resist something like this.

So, curiosity getting the better of me, I got up, picking up my crossbow on the way, and moved to the edge of the bank, looking for a way across.

Finding it, I went over to the boulder pile, climbed up on the largest one, and, balancing carefully, hopped to a rock in the middle of the river, then over to the far bank, right in front of the cave.

Having reached my goal, I stopped to examine the cave opening. It was a little over six feet high, irregularly shaped. Other than that, there was nothing to suggest it was anything other then a normal cave. Anything besides that the tugging feeling in my gut had gotten stronger.

Fashioning a makeshift torch from a tree branch and some spare cloth I kept in a pocket, I took a deep breath, and stepped inside.

Instantly I was hit with a prickling sensation, a magic ward being tripped.

Damn, I thought, and then the cave walls disappeared.

————————

I am standing in the middle of a glade, surrounded by ages-old oak trees. A gentle breeze blows through, swirling leaves around, and tousling my hair. The afternoon sun shines down through the leaves, casting a golden light over everything. It would be the perfect day, if it weren’t for what I knew was about to happen.

Across the glade from me, shock mixed with horror etched on his face, stands my best friend, Trevor Mortlen. He has a hunting spear in one hand, as do I. Mine has the blood of a deer on the tip.

“S-Skye,” the other says, “What-how?”

At first, I am not quite sure what he is trying to say, then it dawns on me: He saw what I did, how I drew the spear back to me from the deer, twelve feet away, clear across the glade.

“Trevor,” I say calmly, forcing myself to look him in the eyes, “There’s something I’ve never told you about myself. I think it’s time I rectified that.”

I see the the hurt and fear in his eyes.

“I’m sorry Skye, but it’s too late for that. You’re not who I thought you were.” The other says, and begins to back away.

Panic starts to take told of me. I know how this ends. I know because I have relived this moment in my mind so many times, always trying to find an ending different than the one I know is about to happen, never being successful.

“Trevor,” I hear myself say, “Please, you must listen to me. It’s not what you think. I can explain everything, if you just let me.”

My plea falls on deaf ears.

“I’m sorry Skye,” he says again. “I don’t trust you anymore. You’re not someone who should be free to cause harm.”

Each word is like a dagger to my heart. I can barely believe what I’m hearing. This couldn’t be my Trev, the very best friend I had in this world. The person who meant so much to me.

“Please, “ I begged, tears beginning to blur my vision, “Trev, don’t do this.”

He looked at me with sadness in his eyes.

“I don’t want to. But I have to. I don’t know you anymore Skye.” And he turned away, heading out of the glade, bound for the sheriff’s office in our village.

I was torn apart in that moment, as Trevor turned his back on me. I knew if he reached the sheriff, my life, my parent’s life, maybe even my cousin’s lives, would be ruined, if not over completely.

There was only one way to stop this.

Only one way to ensure the safety of myself and my family.

Screaming my fury at the unfairness and helplessness of my situation, I throw the spear at my love’s back.

I could feel the scene beginning to change. Afraid of what I would be forced to relive next, I pushed against the memories, tearing myself free.

“NNNOOOOO!”

—————————

And then I was back in the real world, still standing in the same spot. My legs collapsed beneath me, and I barely managed to catch myself before I hit the floor.

Lifting my torch, I was able to clearly see now that the cave was man-made, probably by some old wizard with elemental powers, which would also explain the ward guarding the entrance.

Finding my mind starting to drift back to the memory that had been triggered, I forced myself to redirect, settling on the the fact that the tugging in my gut hadn’t lessened any, despite the ordeal I had just gone through.

Getting to my feet, crossbow in one hand, torch in the other, I cleared away my jumbled thoughts, and focused solely on the feeling.

It was definitely coming from deeper inside the cave, so despite my growing reservations, I allowed myself to be led into the bowels of the earth, winding downward, past branch tunnels and rooms, drawn ever deeper by the steadily increasing tugging, til' finally, I arrived at the end of the tunnel. Before me was an absolutely ancient oaken door, fastened into the rock via some very rusty iron hinges. The source of the tugging sensation was on the other side of that door, I was sure of it.

Studying the four rusty hinges, I set down my crossbow and torch, stretched out my hands, palms outward, and concentrated.

A second later, the hinges tore free of the rock and zoomed into my hands.

Smiling, I dropped the hinges on the ground, and, retrieving my torch and crossbow, kicked down the old door.

Beyond, the room inside was circular, about twelve feet in each direction, walls, floor, and roof all made of carved stone. Carved into the floor, all around the edge of the room, were strange runes, in a foreign language I didn’t understand. But that wasn’t what drew my attention the second I stepped into the room, nor was it the faded mural-like pattern scrawled across the back wall.

It was the perfectly symmetrical pedestal, placed in the exact center of the room, with a second ring of runes around it’s base.

Atop the pedestal sat………..a gleaming, perfectly polished nautilus shell.

I could instantly tell the tugging sensation was originating from the mysterious shell.

Why, I didn’t yet know.

I slowly approached the pedestal, as if in a trance, and reaching out, picked up the shell.

Instantly the tugging sensation disappeared. I turned the shell over in my hands, studying it. Other then being extra shiny, it didn’t appear any different than any other nautilus shell.

“So what caused the tugging feeling?” I asked into the silence, not really expecting an answer.

But I got one.

A faint sound became discernible in the room, and it seemed to be coming from the shell in my hand.

Lifting it to my ear cautiously, I was surprised to hear the sound of waves, mixed with the chirping of birds, (though I couldn’t tell what species they were from), along with other sounds I didn’t recognize. This close to my face, I noticed for the first time there was something different about this shell.

The stripes on the nautilus were translucent, and in the one closest to me, I could faintly see a beach, made of white sand.

I blinked, and the image was gone.

Shaking my head to clear it, thinking maybe I had imagined it, I turned away from the pedestal, placing the shell in a pocket on my belt.

It was then I realized, without the tugging feeling leading me, I had no idea where I was.

I was lost down here, in this maze of tunnels.

As this set in, my shadow flickered, and disappeared, as the room went dark.

My torch had just gone out.

Continuing our Cathedral/Minster UK tour...

Yesterday was Southwell Minster and Peterborough Cathedral.

Today is Ely Cathedral which is about 12miles North of Cambridge in the East of England.

The awe and wow factor went up again today!!

Amazing and beautiful place, such history too..

Today's visit includes a tower and roof tour more pictures later..

These four pictures show different perspectives of a huge building that is very hard to get a complete picture of!!

Have a read about it!

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ely_Cathedral

"The cathedral has its origins in AD 672 when St Etheldreda built an abbey church. The present building dates back to 1083, and it was granted cathedral status in 1109. Until the Reformation it was the Church of St Etheldreda and St Peter, at which point it was refounded as the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Ely, continuing as the principal church of the Diocese of Ely, in Cambridgeshire"

A wide view of Washburn Falls - not the most dramatic, but a beautiful spot on this wild river.

Continuing our weekend driving trip on Highway 99 and arriving in Lillooet BC.

This is the "Old Bridge" spanning the Fraser River and its for pedestrians only.

Bridge of the 23 Camels:

Following the discovering of gold in the Cariboo in 1858 and the completion of the first wagon road to Lillooet, horses, mules and oxen were used to haul the heavy loads to the gold fields. One entrepreneur had the bright idea that camels would be ideal pack animals and so 23 two humped Bactrian camels were imported from Asia to BC. The bright idea soon turned into a nightmare as the high-strung beasts ate miners clothing, kicked at anything or anyone who came close, frightened other animals with their pungent odour, and had their soft feet cut to ribbons on the rocky mountainous roads. So they were abandoned by their owners and left to roam in the wild. Some were killed for food, some died in winter storms, while others were kept as curiosities. The lone surviving Bactrian camel, “The Lady” as she was called, died around 1896 on a farm in Grande Prairie. Before the bridge officially opened in 1981, a contest was held to select a name. Local resident, Renee Chipman submitted the winning name: "Bridge of the 23 Camels" in honour of those original camels.

In 2003 the District of Lillooet along with the Ministry of Transportation completed a restoration of the Old Bridge. The District of Lillooet with the Lillooet Naturalist Society decided to make the old bridge "bat friendly" and Bat houses were installed as part of the restoration project.

FRASER RIVER:

The Fraser River is the largest salmon spawning river in the world and the longest undamned river in North America. Often referred to as the "Muddy Fraser," the river yearly deposits 20-million tons of sand, silt and mud from the BC interior into the Pacific Ocean Staight of Georgia at Vancouver from erosion, glaciation, rock-breaking frosts, rain freshets, and spring floods.

This brave woman was one of several people arrested in Trafalgar Square for daring to peacefully resist the government's inaction on the climate and cost of living crisis. She had been participating in a "Just Stop Oil" demo, by sitting on the road, on the south side of the square and had been holding a placard declaring "We will not pay for greed."

Another activist explained his own interpretation of the placard - "We refuse to go hungry to feed your profits, we refuse to sacrifice our planet on the altar of greed."

This and other similar protests occur as a tiny corporate minority are profiteering from the surge in the oil price, inflicting misery on working families, and while also benefiting the government's backing for new oil fields.

The UK's mainstream TV network Sky News network reported in August 2022 that "the country has seen a huge spike in the number of people becoming billionaires." - Yes, that's right, a "huge spike" in the middle of the UK's longest decline in working families' living standards in 200 years.

The UK government claims that it doesn't have enough funds to support the NHS, the disabled, the homeless or working families who can't afford to heat their homes. It also explains its inability to take any of the steps desperately needed to avert catastrophic climate change, due to the supposed cost.

All the while it allows UK oil companies to profit from the Ukraine War by setting the maximum possible market price thereby plunging ordinary families into poverty. It also continues to allow individuals and corporations to hide their wealth in tax havens, hands out billions by propping up, via the Bank of England's open market operations, the assets of wealthy bond holders and it still privileges multinationals with the lowest corporation tax, by a significant margin, in the G7, and also in the G20.

According to the Just Stop Oil website, just a few days prior to when this photo was taken, a spokesperson for the activist group set out their demands -

“Rishi Sunak is about to U-turn on attending COP27. We demand that he also U-turn on new oil and gas. This genocidal policy will kill millions of people, while failing to address the worst cost of living crisis this country has ever seen.

“It's time for a serious windfall tax on big oil, without the get-out-of-jail-free tax credits that will encourage more oil and gas that we cannot afford. Vulnerable people will be freezing to death in their homes this winter, unable to afford a can of soup, while his government refuses to tax the rich and the big energy companies that are profiting from our misery.

“We owe it to our young people to stop fossil fuels, we owe it to our workers to create a just transition to a zero-carbon economy, we owe it to our old people to enable them to live with dignity. We are not prepared to stand by and watch while everything we love is destroyed."

Medanak, first reversing station of the Khyber Pass Railway. The line continued on the upper left to the next reverse at Changhi and further on to the Afghan border at Torkham where it stopped just a few meters from the border line. The railway was opened in 1925 to Landi Kotal and 1926 to the border - this later section with two reversing stations was already closed in 1932 after only 6 years of use. The Peshawar to Landi Kotal line remained open for regular trafic with one train a week until 1982 and for special trains between 1993 and 2007. It is closed since due to severe washout. Essential reading about this line is 'Permanent way through the Khyber' written by the line's building engineer Victor Bayley. February 1997

Sunday is probably my favourite weekday, because I listen to CBC radio with Michael Enright in the morning, turn on the fire, look at my plants, hold my Birdie, and often work on my paintings. I am doing a series of paintings of reflections in water, and learning so much in that process of discovery. Willow's walk comes after all of this today, but she is always a priority. I hope all of you are enjoying Sunday.

A few days ago I posted a photograph of a neighbor's purple iris. That was the day I encountered a "wild" hog. Today, while being involved in a calf roundup, I met the owner of the "wild" hog. He happened to be in the area when some wayward calves needed to get back to their mothers. He stopped to help. As we talked, I learned that he recently had a a hog get out - "first time in three years." Hmmm. Yes, he raises hogs. He assured me they are all back where they should be and I do not need to be on high alert for "wild" hogs in our neck of the woods. White Iris - Morgan County, Alabama - 2015.

It is quite possible that SJ-1 continued north to White River Junction light, as I earlier noted that they brought the entire train from Springfield into the yard here in East Deerfield. But, I do see cars well back, so I'm not sure what the plan was, this day. Sometimes, a switcher from the yard would bring them a cut of cars. The units are on the north/south CT River line, the two closer tracks are the east/west B&M main, which eventually passes under the north/south line, and curves into East Deerfield yard. For the same lead locomotive, this means that the power took the southern lead backwards, got onto the CT River main and headed up to my position. Perhaps they are now backing to pick up the cars left on the east/west tracks, left by a switcher, and then head north to Bellows Falls, and later, White River Junction. Late September 1976

It was about half a year ago when started this project and sadly motivation has not been increasing every month that have past.

I'm quite happy with front but the when the comes to the back I'm completely lost right now.

Should I continue for probably six more months or should I take it apart and build more smaller veichles like a hornet?

pulled one from a series in 2009 I always liked but never touched until now.

Continuing the theme of every Carlsson I've seen being off the road or in poor condition! On SORN with no MOT history, current owner since 2002.
