An essential part of early years education!

Found hinges, welded to make a frame. Taken back to the setting in which they were found, which happens to be the hospital where I was born, and re-photographed.

Continuing up the hill behind the hidden cache

I'm continuing to catch up on posting "new to me birds".

This past spring, my dad and I went to the Wilds (thewilds.columbuszoo.org/) near Cumberland, Ohio, and opted to take the Wild Side truck tour. The tour is more costly, but worth the extra money in my opinion. The truck can go anywhere and offers an up-close and personal tour with a small group and an individual guide. When I mentioned I was interested in birding, our guide Michelle managed to find a Bobolink for me. I had never seen one before.

Below is a description about the Bobolink and a web link from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's All About Birds website ...

Perched on a grass stem or displaying in flight over a field, breeding male Bobolinks are striking. No other North American bird has a white back and black underparts (some have described this look as wearing a tuxedo backwards). Added to this are the male’s rich, straw-colored patch on the head and his bubbling, virtuosic song. As summer ends he molts into a buff and brown female-like plumage. Though they’re still fairly common in grasslands, Bobolink numbers are declining.

Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Cedar Bluff-based 1033rd Engineer Company, 276th Engineer Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group continue a water main pipeline damage assessment mission Oct. 7, 2024, in Damascus, Virginia. The Soldiers used GPS and tablets to document damage or exposed sections of a 12-inch water main pipeline that runs from the Town of Damascus to Taylors Valley in Washington County. The support from the Soldiers helps with the restoration of more than six miles of water main pipeline that provides water to the town. Read more at vngpao.info/mr2x6d7n.
