The Port of Málaga is located to the south of the Iberian Peninsula, on the coasts of the southern Mediterranean, sheltered by a natural bay, at 4º 25 ‘W and 36º 43’ N. The prevailing winds are S. and SE, prevailing the bonancible weather. The Port has a flotation surface of 6.884 Ha and a terrestrial surface of 1.190.723 m² at present.
The range of merchandise that transits the port ranges from solid bulk such as cement, agri-food, aggregates and biomass, through liquid bulks such as olive and sunflower oils, hydrocarbons and molasses, and ending with the general merchandise in its different aspects, ro-ro cargo, import vehicles and containerized merchandise, covering all of them commercial routes of the Mediterranean and Atlantic arc, including a firm positioning in the coastal trading lines with Melilla and Ceuta.
Noteworthy is the passenger traffic both in connections with Melilla in ferries such as transport, and tourist cruises with scheduled itineraries both in the Mediterranean and in the Atlantic by the main shipping companies in this area.
Equally important given the added value they bring to the traffic of passengers and merchandise are the commercial provisioning services; in this second type is the supply of fuel which is taking a significant relevance.

Honolulu District wrapped up its annual participation in the State of Hawaii and Joint Task Force-Homeland Defense Makani Pahili Exercise June 8.
District-wide support of the annual catastrophic disaster response exercise included internal drills and table-top exercises to assess the command’s capability to execute mission essential functions and provide external support to the State of Hawaii / JTF-HD in the event of a Category 4 hurricane impact to the Hawaiian Islands.
One important capability of the District’s disaster response is utilization of a Containerized Tactical Operations Center (CTOC). The containerized system provides a rapidly deployable tactical operations and communications platform for first responders where there are no available facilities or communications capabilities.

GRIFFINIA (AMARYLLIDACEAE), A CRITICALLY ENDANGERED BRAZILIAN GEOPHYTE WITH HORTICULTURAL POTENTIAL
Authors: A.W. Meerow, K.D. Preuss, A. Fernando, C. Tombolato
Keywords: flower bulb, geophyte, endangered species, floriculture, new crops
Abstract:
The genus Griffinia consists of about a dozen species of rainforest or dry forest understory bulbous geophytes endemic to eastern Brazil. Two subgenera are recognized: subgenus Griffinia, found in coastal Atlantic Rainforest and its inland extensions, and subg. Hyline, an herb of sub-xeric cerrado or caatinga vegetation. The two species of subg. Hyline are nocturnal, white-flowered, and fragrant. The 10 species of subg. Griffinia are lilac to almost blue-flowered (rarely white). The species of subg. Griffinia are adapted to very low light levels, and have attractive petiolate leaves that are frequently spotted white. The species are characterized by 2n = 20 chromosomes, but a preponderance of triploid individuals have been found in cultivation in Brazil. In addition to being exceedingly endangered by habitat destruction, the species have great unexploited horticultural potential as containerized plants and landscape perennials in tropical regions. Much basic work remains to be done on the genus; for example, nothing is known about its flowering physiology. One species, G. hyacinthina, has been successfully micropropagated in Brazil. Development of Griffinia as a floricultural crop must also be pursued with attention to the germplasm rights of the country of origin.

SKD and CKD are two types of manufacturing that involve creation or assembly of an item by combining a series of components and subassemblies into larger parts. SKD production has little or no painting, staining or other finishing after the parts are assembled into complete goods. In contrast, CKD production involves adding a coat of paint, staining or other finishing after the parts have been assembled into complete goods.
SKD and CKD are phases of the production process. They differ from each other in the way data (for example, a model number) is captured and updated on a continuous basis. SKD represents an actual physical product that may exist at some point along its life cycle, while CKD refers to a product in development.
When a product is manufactured, it is broken down into parts for reuse. The most common example of this is ‘SKD’ (stock keeping distribution) where many components of a product are separated and stored so that they can be used again in the same order later. Another example would be ‘CKD’ or containerized deliveries.
You can’t use CKD to directly compare SKD and production configurators. In SKD, the parts are usually delivered as one “package,” whereas in CKD, the components are shipped separately (but within their original manufacturer’s capacity).

American internationalism was born at sea. America has long been a maritime power and, since the end of World War II, the U.S. Navy has been the world’s dominant power on the high seas. American firms led the innovations of containerization that now dominate global trade, and U.S. institutions are the world leaders in the oceanographic sciences. Dominance of the high seas is a vital part of American grand strategy, and the stakes here are high: Most world trade moves by sea, as does about two-thirds of the world’s supply of oil and gas, and more than 90% of all data, via undersea cables. And oceanographic sciences form a vital plank in our understanding of climate change.
In each of these domains, the United States works closely with naval, industry, and science partners, especially in Europe and Asia. And for the past several decades, this has included China — now the largest shipbuilding nation in the world — a country whose ports dominate global trade flows and who is an increasingly important source of oceanographic sciences. But the context is rapidly changing — from the Black Sea to the Baltic and Barents Seas to the Western Pacific. New pressures on globalization and new sources of geopolitical tension pose potential challenges to sea-based cooperation and commerce alike.
On June 7, Brookings hosted a public event featuring the 32nd Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Michael Gilday, President of CMA CGM America and American President Lines Peter Levesque, and Director of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Margaret Leinen for a discussion about what is at stake at sea, and where America’s maritime interests lie today.
