Cartran.net provides vehicle shipping and transport services for individuals and companies exporting Cars, SUVs’, Trucks, Wheeled Equipment and other Auto's to over 200 plus countries worldwide. We have an extensive network of shipping lines along with our custom tailored software that allows us to provide quick rate quotes to customers. We ship vehicles by two methods Containerization and Roro otherwise known as roll on roll off. Cargo that cannot fit into a container must be shipped by RORO which is the cheapest way to ship vehicles, cars, trucks, autos and boats as containers have to be packed and transported to the terminal and may take up more space than necessary. Cars, SUV’S, Trucks, Wheeled equipment and all other auto’s are strapped down and loaded below deck into the hull of the ship that is completely weather proof. No exposure to the elements or salty air / water. For the Container Shipping method we provide 20" and 40" containers which have to be retro fitted with webbing and straps to keep the vehicles in place while shipping. We always recommend RORO Shipping. That's not to say that RORO shipping is always better than Container shipping but if you are relocating overseas and have other items to send with the vehicle then RORO is not an option for you. Or you may be shipping to a port which is only serviced by container vessels then this is the method for you.

On the Plaza is an example of an intermodal shipping container made famous by Malcolm Purcell McLean (November 14, 1913 – May 25, 2001), an American businessman. who developed the modern intermodal shipping container, which revolutionized transport and international trade in the second half of the twentieth century. Containerization led to a significant reduction in the cost of freight transportation by eliminating the need for repeated handling of individual pieces of cargo, and also improved reliability, reduced cargo theft, and cut inventory costs by shortening transit time. The idea of transporting trucks on ships was put into practice before World War II. In 1926 regular connection of the luxury passenger train from London to Paris, Golden Arrow/Fleche d'Or, by Southern Railway and French Northern Railway began. For transport of passengers' baggage, four containers were used. These containers were loaded in London or Paris and carried to ports, Dover or Calais, on flat cars in the UK and “CIWL Pullman Golden Arrow Fourgon of CIWL” in France. In the early 1950s, McLean decided to attempt use of the containers commercially. By 1952, he was developing plans to carry his company's trucks on ships along the U.S. Atlantic coast, from North Carolina to New York. It soon became apparent that "trailerships", as they were called, would be inefficient because of the large waste in potential cargo space on board the vessel, known as broken stowage. The original concept was modified into loading just the containers, not the chassis, onto the ships, hence the designation container ship or "box" ship. n 1956, most cargoes were loaded and unloaded by hand by longshoremen. Hand-loading a ship cost $5.86 a ton at that time. Using containers, it cost only 16 cents a ton to load a ship, 36-fold savings. Containerization also greatly reduced the time to load and unload ships. McLean knew "A ship earns money only when she's at sea", and based his business on that efficiency. In April 1957, the first container ship, the Gateway City, began regular service between New York, Florida, and Texas. During the summer of 1958 McLean Industries, still using the name Pan-Atlantic Steamship Corporation, inaugurated container service between the U.S. and San Juan, Puerto Rico with the vessel Fairland. The name was officially changed from Pan-Atlantic Steamship Corporation to Sea-Land Service, Inc. in April 1960. McLean's operation was profitable by 1961 and he kept adding routes and buying bigger ships.
Elizabeth, NJ: roads (NJ Turnpike exit 13), bridges (the Goethals, just visible), railroads, a port for containerized waste, tank farm, water treatment plant, oil refinery (Phillips' Bayway), warehouses and light industry, and even a highway maintenance yard. Try doing without even one of those things in today's world! I mean, yes, of course, we all have dreams of clean energy ... but we're not there yet (and not getting there fast enough, but that's a different story).

For over three decades, Dole Ocean Cargo Express has been handling and transporting cargo internationally. Developed exclusively for the purpose of delivering Dole’s delicious and fresh temperature-sensitive cargo, Dole Ocean Cargo Express has since grown with the industry and expanded its borders to handle all types of cargo.
It began in 1964, with Dole’s Standard Fruit and Steamship Company which operated as Vacaro Line. Vacaro specialized in break bulk, mainly perishables and temperature-sensitive cargoes. In the early 1980s, Vacaro Line became Intercontinental Transportation Services, advancing from break bulk to containerized capabilities. I.T.S. was designed to grow with the booming market, and it did. Then, in 1992, Dole Ocean Cargo Express was created as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dole Food Company, Inc. capable of handling all types of cargo between continents.

Melbourne Docklands is a suburb in Melbourne, Australia. It occupies an area extending up to 2 km west from the CBD.
Melbourne Docklands is a primarily waterfront area centered around the banks of the Yarra River. Currently, much of this area is being developed to become a new inner city suburb.
Melbourne Docklands is best known as home to the Etihad Stadium, Southern Cross Station and a large number of modern buildings and eccentric public artworks.
The Docklands precinct was originally used for docks, but fell out of use following the containerization of shipping traffic. The space remained vacant and unused during the 1980s and it fell in to disrepair. It was used for "special events" during the 1990s, becoming notable for a number of dance and rave parties.
The redeveloped area will almost double the size of the city's central business district. With a residential population primarily living in high-density high rise apartments, the current population is approximately 6000 persons.
The Royal Victoria Dock is dominated by the ExCeL Exhibition Centre, constructed on the north quayside and opened in November 2000. This is where we were heading for the Women's Team Foil event.
Royal Victoria Dock was opened in 1855 on a previously uninhabited area of Plaistow Marshes. It was the first of the Royal Docks and the first London dock to be designed specifically to accommodate large steam ships.
The dock was an immediate commercial success, as it could easily accommodate all but the very largest steamships. By 1860, it was already taking over 850,000 tons of shipping a year - double that of the London Docks, four times that of St Katharine Docks and 70% more than the West India Dock and East India Docks combined. It was badly damaged by German bombing in World War II but experienced a resurgence in trade following the war. However, from the 1960s onwards, the Royal Victoria experienced a steady decline - as did all of London's other docks - as the shipping industry adopted containerization, which effectively moved traffic downstream to Tilbury. It finally closed to commercial traffic along with the other Royal Docks in 1980.

The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) and its terminal operating partner, Enstructure, recently moved 4,500-tons of frozen poultry in a single breakbulk shipment. Shipping the cargo via breakbulk rather than as containerized cargo helped significantly reduce transit time from the U.S. to its final destination in the Caribbean.
The move was JAXPORT’s first large poultry shipment since 2015. The cargo, which was previously shipped via container through other U.S. ports, shifted to JAXPORT to take advantages of the port’s efficiencies and uncongested berths.
“With the high cost and low availability of containers, the exporters needed to have another means of moving the poultry,” said Enstructure’s Brian Hubert. “Going to the different container terminals was taking them roughly two to four weeks to get their cargo to the discharge ports. When we load, it’s there in two days. We can do it more efficiently than containers with larger volumes, making it more cost-effective for our customers.”
Enstructure’s skilled labor, which operates as Seaonus Stevedoring at JAXPORT’s Talleyrand Marine Terminal, loaded the palletized chicken onto the refrigerated cargo vessel Green Guatemala. An organized staging and loading process ensured a seamless transition for the temperature-controlled cargo.
“JAXPORT was an integral partner in making sure that cargo move was a success,” Hubert said. “JAXPORT has been extremely cooperative in supporting our operation to ensure a successful outcome for our customer.”
“Companies are looking for ways to get around the congestion at other U.S. ports and move their freight as quickly as possible,” said JAXPORT Director of Cargo Sales Alberto Cabrera. “JAXPORT is known as one of the most diversified ports in the nation in terms of business lines. This flexibility has kept us delay-free throughout the pandemic and allowed us to serve the evolving needs of new and existing customers during this time.”
JAXPORT is Florida’s largest container port and one of the nation’s top vehicle-handling ports. Located in the heart of the nation’s rail and highway network, Jacksonville offers same-day access to 98 million U.S. consumers.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Aug. 5, 2019) - Cargo activity through Jacksonville’s seaport positively impacts tens of thousands of jobs and supports nearly $31.1 billion in annual economic output for the region and state, according to a newly released study. The study, citing double-digit growth in the port’s total economic impact over the last five years, was conducted by Martin Associates, a widely recognized maritime research firm.
In the Jacksonville area, the study concludes that 26,282 people are employed in port-dependent positions—direct, indirect and induced jobs relying on the port. This figure represents a nearly 8 percent increase over a previous study conducted in 2013. The port’s total economic value of $31.1 billion has also increased 15 percent during this time. In addition, the study finds that 138,500 jobs across the state of Florida are related to cargo moving through Jacksonville’s port.
Port-dependent jobs pay an average annual salary of $70,570, well above the state of Florida average salary for all occupations of $46,010.
JAXPORT’s Asian container trade is a primary driver of the port’s containerized cargo growth, up 89 percent since 2013. JAXPORT offers competitive transit times to destinations in Asia including China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and more.
The port achieved significant Asian volume increases following the 2017 decision by the JAXPORT Board of Directors to begin construction on the project to deepen the Jacksonville shipping channel to 47 ft. The report finds that this steady volume growth underscores the importance of harbor deepening, which will allow JAXPORT to accommodate more cargo aboard the increasingly larger ships calling Jacksonville. The project is ahead of schedule and expected to be complete in 2023, based on continued funding from all partners.
A previous study conducted by Martin Associates in 2014 projected that JAXPORT’s Asian container business would generate 5,675 direct, indirect and induced jobs by the year 2020. The new study finds the actual number of these jobs in 2018 has already reached 5,538, a difference of about 2 percent from the forecast for 2020.
The report also finds that every 1,000 vehicles that move through the port supports 1.6 direct local jobs. JAXPORT is the nation’s second largest vehicle-handling port, moving more than 665,000 units last year.
“The successes we are experiencing throughout all of our lines of business have a direct and lasting impact on our region and state,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green. “The more we continue to invest in this port and grow our reputation as a global gateway into the Southeast U.S., the more jobs we create for our neighbors and the more revenue we put back into our area’s economy.”
The study concludes that in 2018, cargo activity at Jacksonville’s seaport generated $2.6 billion in business revenue, including $767.4 million in wages, $634.6 million in business purchases and $247.1 million in state and local taxes.

"Customs houses were built in all major Australian ports in the nineteenth century. Customs and excise duties were an important source of revenue, levied on goods from overseas and in some cases from other colonies. The port of Brisbane grew quickly so in 1884 the Queensland government agreed to replace its existing Customs House at Petrie Bight, a modest single storey brick structure, with a much grander edifice. Designed by Charles McLay of the Colonial Architect's office, it is two storeys high on the Queen Street frontage, while three storeys are visible from the river side. Its grand public space, The Long Room, is surmounted by a copper sheathed dome. With work commencing in 1886, this imposing and rare surviving masterpiece of the Colonial Architects Office took three years and £38,346 to build.
The Brisbane Customs House is a fine example of Victorian Free Classical style, with its grand colonnades and portico, and a dome which still manages to be a major feature on the landscape, despite being overlooked by adjacent high rise office and apartment blocks.
After Federation in 1901 the Customs House became part of the commonwealth government's customs service and some of its elegant rooms were carved up as offices. Surrounded by busy wharves and trams, it became one of Brisbane's best known buildings. With the move to containerization all the major wharves in central Brisbane were demolished, with new wharves being built much nearer the river mouth. In 1988 the Customs House, which at its peak had 300 staff, closed and custom activities left their symbolic home on the river for an office block up the road. The Customs House is one of the few reminders that central Brisbane was once a great river port.
Conscious of the heritage value of the House, the Commonwealth government negotiated a lease with the University of Queensland which agreed to restore the property, generously supported by donations. Customs House re-opened in October 1994 and the building now serves as a downtown presence for many university activities. Its magnificent Long Room and other public rooms are available for a variety of cultural, community and business functions. Its role as a Customs House can still be seen in a number of historical displays and in the layout and fabric of the building itself."
