I have three of these enormous concrete urns. They were formerly positioned atop my next door neighbor's five foot high retaining wall. She or her husband were never green thumbs, over the years the only thing that grew out of the urns were weeds. The neoclassical design didn't mesh with modern landscaping she'd done, she was going to have them taken away. Large pots are fairly expensive, so I told her I'd figure out how to get them down from the wall, if I could have them. They each weigh a couple hundred pounds. My oldest was eleven or twelve at the time, he and I used an ingenious system of ramps with old wood to alternately slide and lever them down into our yard. The only way they could be moved on the ground was by rolling them on their sides.
They've been sitting empty in my backyard ever since.
One summer, we traveled during a terrifically scorching hot month of August in Seattle. When we got home, we found most of our longtime containerized plants desiccated and keeled over (including a twenty year old filbert). It was awful. Since then, I've been reluctant to do any large container gardening.

SPMT: Self-propelled modular transporter, also known as a self-propelled modular trailer, which is mainly used for the transportation of heavy, huge, and special-shaped structures. The advantages of self propelled modular transporter are flexible use, convenient loading and unloading, and the load capacity can reach more than 50,000 tons under the condition of modules mechanical assembly or free combination. The self propelled transporter is widely used in manufacturing, petroleum, chemical industry, offshore engineering, bridge construction, and other engineering fields.
For mega engineering construction, the way of moving prefabricated segments and then transporting them to the site for general assembly is often adopted to effectively shorten the construction period and reduce the construction cost; If the modules are over disassembled, it is conducive to transportation and lifting, but not convenient to general assembly as well as commissioning. If the modular transporters are disassembled as little as possible, the single modules will be very huge but pose challenges on transportation and lifting. SPMT came into being under this demand.
WHAT AREAS CAN SELF PROPELLED TRANSPORTER TRAILER BE APPLIED FOR
Self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) is mainly used for shipbuilding, petroleum, chemical industry, steel, and other engineering construction and equipment production. It has been used for medium, mega or heavy cargo transportation. According to different actual working conditions, different modules can be selected and combined into transport vehicles of various tonnage and forms to meet the needs of various working conditions. The modules can drive under the load bracket, lift the load with its jacking system, transfer it to any designated place and put down the load. This process does not require a crane or any other lifting equipment. The driving, lifting, and steering of the SPMT adopt the control and transmission form of "machine electric hydraulic" integration. The SPMT trailer is equipped with wireless remote control and a wireless emergency remote control, which has the same efficiency when driving forward or backward. Two or more modules can be combined and spliced, and one person can fully control the SPMT to complete different transportation tasks.
The product of SPMT manufacturers comply with relevant national standards and specifications with high rigidity, high seismic resistance, and high precision; Excellent cold and thermal stability; The electric control system has the properties of shockproof, antimagnetic, waterproof and high-temperature resistance, and can reliably complete the mobile transportation of hull sections or other heavy goods in ship construction and other engineering construction. HOW DOES SELF PROPELLED MODULAR TRANSPORTER WORK?
The first SPMT was born in 1983, designed and manufactured by Scheuerle, and delivered to Mammoet the next year. 30 years of running has not made them old. Now, these first SPMTs are still in service with Mammoet.
SPMT has made great progress since its birth. At present, the world's famous SPMT brands include Scheuerle (Germany), kamag (Germany), Nicolas (France), Goldhofer (Germany), COMETTO (Italy), etc., mostly European brands (the first three belong to TII group); In recent years, Rui trailer has developed rapidly in this field which has greatly promoted the localization process of heavy cargo transportation in China.
As a pioneer, Scheuerle's SPMT has spread all over the world, with total usage of more than 5500 axes. It is widely used in shipbuilding, petrochemical, nuclear power, aerospace, road and bridge engineering, and other fields. Now it has developed to the fourth generation. Due to the adoption of welding robot technology, the load capacity of SPMT per axle has increased from 40 t of the third generation to 48 T, and the control technology has reached a new level.

SPMT modules have 2, 3, 4, and 6 axles specifications, among which 4 and 6 axles modules are the most common. The size design of SPMT is very particular. The module is 2.43 m wide, 5.6 m long (4-axle module), and 8.4 m long (6-axle module). It can be transported in standard 20 'and 40' containers. Some super mega engineering companies have a global business, but they may not have local branches, so it is necessary to transport the heavy equipment required for the project to the local. The transnational transfer of heavy equipment is generally a combination of ocean transportation and land transportation (highway and railway). The containerization of equipment can bring great convenience and save a lot of transportation costs, So as to achieve global rapid scheduling deployment, which was one of the original design objectives of SPMT.
Each axle line is composed of two pendulum axles. Each pendulum axle is equipped with two wheels (air-filled tire or solid tire can be selected). The center of the two wheels can swing at a certain angle along the center in the vertical direction, which can make the module compensate for the height of the ground in the transverse direction.

The green structure protruding from the deck on the left is cargo hold 1. The two yellow brackets between the hold and the side of the ship are tie-downs for a cargo container to be carried on the deck. These were added after the ship was commissioned when the popularity of intermodal containers was realized. By comparison, the cargo holds were used for cargo on pallets, which were harder to load and unload than containerized cargo.
The Nuclear Ship Savannah was the world's first nuclear-powered merchant vessel, a bold demonstration of the peaceful use of nuclear energy. It carried both passengers and cargo. Designed, built, and operated during the late 1950s and the 1960s, the Savannah captures a period of time when both views of nuclear activities and international transportation experienced significant changes. Customs houses were built in all major Australian ports in the nineteenth century. Customs and excise duties were an important source of revenue, levied on goods from overseas and in some cases from other colonies. The port of Brisbane grew quickly so in 1884 the Queensland government agreed to replace its existing Customs House at Petrie Bight, a modest single storey brick structure, with a much grander edifice. Designed by Charles McLay of the Colonial Architect's office, it is two storeys high on the Queen Street frontage, while three storeys are visible from the river side. Its grand public space, The Long Room, is surmounted by a copper sheathed dome. With work commencing in 1886, this imposing and rare surviving masterpiece of the Colonial Architects Office took three years and £38,346 to build.
The Brisbane Customs House is a fine example of Victorian Free Classical style, with its grand colonnades and portico, and a dome which still manages to be a major feature on the landscape, despite being overlooked by adjacent high rise office and apartment blocks.
After Federation in 1901 the Customs House became part of the commonwealth government's customs service and some of its elegant rooms were carved up as offices. Surrounded by busy wharves and trams, it became one of Brisbane's best known buildings. With the move to containerization all the major wharves in central Brisbane were demolished, with new wharves being built much nearer the river mouth. In 1988 the Customs House, which at its peak had 300 staff, closed and custom activities left their symbolic home on the river for an office block up the road. The Customs House is one of the few reminders that central Brisbane was once a great river port.
Conscious of the heritage value of the House, the Commonwealth government negotiated a lease with the University of Queensland which agreed to restore the property, generously supported by donations. Customs House re-opened in October 1994 and the building now serves as a downtown presence for many university activities. Its magnificent Long Room and other public rooms are available for a variety of cultural, community and business functions. Its role as a Customs House can still be seen in a number of historical displays and in the layout and fabric of the building itself.

The Headquarters Company, 257th Brigade Support Battalion won the Phillip A. Connelly Awards Program's Region 3 food service competition Aug. 10 at Fort McCoy, Wis., during the battalion's annual training.
