The green structure protruding from the deck on the left is cargo hold 1. The two yellow brackets between the hold and the side of the ship are tie-downs for a cargo container to be carried on the deck. These were added after the ship was commissioned when the popularity of intermodal containers was realized. By comparison, the cargo holds were used for cargo on pallets, which were harder to load and unload than containerized cargo.
The Nuclear Ship Savannah was the world's first nuclear-powered merchant vessel, a bold demonstration of the peaceful use of nuclear energy. It carried both passengers and cargo. Designed, built, and operated during the late 1950s and the 1960s, the Savannah captures a period of time when both views of nuclear activities and international transportation experienced significant changes. Pacific Quay is an area south of the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland. It is located at the former Plantation Quay and Princes' Dock Basin. The Princes' Dock Basin was the largest on the River Clyde when it was opened by the Clyde Navigation Trust in 1900. It ceased to be used as a commercial dock by the Clyde Port Authority in the 1970s as the volume of Shipping using the Upper Clyde declined with the onset of Containerization. The site was later used for the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988. The former electric generating station and pumping house, "Four Winds" which was used to pump water between the rotundas and generate power for the electric cranes still stands and is now home to a consultant engineers and radio station. Kaserne. Hunter and 20 other Soldiers from the 624th MCT returned from a
15-month deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
While there they coordinated transportation operations for 10 months in Bagram and five months at Forward Operating Base Shank. I was surprised at how many freight trains we saw -- triple-headers, hundreds of cars long, stretching off into the distance. Some of it included mineral cars & misc. other types, but the bulk of it was containerized shipping -- consumer goods from China and elsewhere around the Pacific, unloaded at LA or Long Beach and making the long trek across the desert to markets to the east.

Hutchinson Island is a river island in the Savannah River, north of downtown Savannah in Chatham County, Georgia, United States. The island is formed where the Back River breaks off to the north from the Savannah River.
