Here the idea was to reproduce my 'reading' of Rodschenko: The subject itself (as we know it) is not important but as an icon, as text, a slogan or a trade mark in a poster.

Please note that despite I hate using signatures on the images I included them here as an extra mean of stressing my theory adding and extra iconic object to the design.

(EDIT: OMG! my spell checker almost exploded as I opened this text this morning, lol)

Toaster, work in progress, 2020 . I like a lot of the elements, and I have some ideas for the animation, but I don't think this is quite finished yet. Tsentrosoyuz building, Miasnitskaia Ulitsa 39, Moscow. Le Corbusier designed constructivist building constructed between 1929 and 1936. Le Corbusier submitted the winning design from 35 Russian and 3 overseas architects invited to participate in a competition. The building was to have accommodated 2,000 office workers of the Central Union of Consumer Co-operatives but was eventually used by the Commissariat for Light Industry. His design was for three glass faced rectangular blocks for the offices and a semi-circular end for the workers' club and auditoria. The overall plan was not realised and architects Pierre Jeanneret and Nikolai Kolli assisted in completing the work.

I don't know how many times I've walked down these stairs in the Wisconsin Union and never really noticed much of anything. But tonight something -- the colors, the circle and the sheer angular geometry of it all -- just stopped me in my tracks and I had to take out the Coolpix and capture an image. It reminded me of Russian Constructivism.

We had just left Passenger Side, a Canadian film shot in LA that turned out to be my favorite of the six films we saw at this year's film festival -- a cool road movie about two brothers driving around LA with a great soundtrack (played on the cassette deck of a 1975 BMW). For more see Letter from Here, where I've also posted a short video clip of Festival Director Meg Hamel explaining how and why she picked the film.
