Words to the Picture

Didn’t realise this when i shot the scape. I think you can actually see a transition of seasons taking place in this one. Part of the mountain is still very green (summer), the golden tones are there (autumn) and on the tip of the mountain there are already snow (winter) .. Spring is missing though ..

On Saturday I gave a Composition in the Field Class in San Francisco. We passed along a bar on the street side of the Ferry Building. It has a nice wall of beer cans. We learned about patterns, and a photo gets more interesting if there is something that disrupts a pattern, here the water container.

I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a JPG exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

I took a day off to go for a road trip in the Swiss Alps and nearby Südtirol in Italy. I drove over the Passo dello Stelvio (Stelvio Pass) from the South Tyrol side. A very windy road with countless switchbacks leads up to the mountain pass, located in northern Italy bordering Switzerland at an elevation of 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level. I went to the Tibet Hütte for a coffee break, naturally wearing a mask. This fisheye shot through the window of the Tibet Hütte depicts the scale of the mountain pass.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Last Sunday an instructor friend and I gave a photo class in the Golden Gate Park of San Francisco for Match .com on behalf of the Digital Photo Academy. Part of our message to take compelling images is to keep an open and curious mind, like your 5 year old self. Lo and behold, a bunch of walking daisy flowers and butterflies passed by, perfect to let the curiosity flow.

On the way back from Canada we met Swiss friends again after a long time at the Snoqualmie Falls, located east of Seattle, Washington. This 268-foot (82 m) waterfall is quite impressive. We walked down all the way to the foot of the waterfall, good exercise on the way up.
